The Invite-Only 2019 Top Prospect Games took place on Wednesday, June 27th at the Kansas City Royals Complex in Surprise. The event featured many of the state's top rising seniors and gave players an opportunity to perform in front of a strong group of colleges coaches and pro scouts as we gave out all 25 roster packets that were printed. Today, we continue the event coverage with our Infield Analysis. Nathan Baez earned the top spot on the list after really working to improve his defense and arm strength, showing he can play up the middle at the next level. Justin Flebbe really stood out on offense, earning the number two spot as a first baseman with real power that also has value as a LHP. Ty Mead and Holden Breeze are very similar level prospects, with Mead having a better chance to defend up the middle and Breeze's bat producing more consistent hard contact, Check out the full list below as well as guys like Dylan Fesperman, Marcus Lucas, Jarrett Kellerhals, Cody Hedalan (maybe better fit in OF), Connor Smith, and Dalan Curthoys (likely future on mound) who narrowly missed the top ten.

TOP Infield PROSPECTS:

Nathan Baez SS / SS / Ironwood Ridge, AZ / 2019 Rankings  StateRank: 9 / POS: 1 6-foot, 170-pounds. Baez was flying somewhat under the radar for a period of time after missing a significant portion of 2017 with injury, but that has changed recently. Swing shows advanced rhythm and ability to be on time in game action with natural loft in swing. Baez posted a personal best 91 mph exit velocity and has always taken an impressive BP, but has now made significant improvements on defense where he now looks likely to remain up the middle. His 87 mph infield velocity represented a significant improvement from the past and he has always played faster than his 7.26 60-time would indicate due to instincts. Baez shows significant present strength in his developed upper and has a chance to become very physical with continued development.

Justin Flebbe 1B / LHP / Raymond S Kellis, AZ / 2019 Rankings  StateRank: 35 / POS: 2 6-foot-1, 175-pounds. Flebbe didn't really stand out on a few short looks this spring, but showed off a really intriguing combination of raw power and bat speed that you wouldn't expect from someone with his frame. Recorded a very impressive 97 mph exit velocity on this day. He has a chance to be a plus defender at first and launched a home run just foul during game action at the event. Posted a 76 mph infield velocity and a 7.07 60-yard dash. Flebbe also ran his fastball up to 83 mph from the left side on the mound. Clean arm action, high ¾ release. Tendency to land on a very bent front leg, fails to stabilize/block forward momentum. Breaking ball showed 1/7 shape with gradual break at 72-75 mph. Flebbe’s currently a much higher level prospect as a position player with enough juice to play first base.

Ty Mead SS / 3B / Cactus Shadows, AZ / 2019 Rankings  StateRank: 46 / POS: 9 6-foot, 175-pound frame. Mead isn't flashy but made plays from every infield spot during game action and improved his testing numbers across the board with a 7.04 60-yard dash, 84 mph infield velocity and 90 mph exit velocity. Offensively hit from an athletic stance with weight slightly preset onto back side. Simple, compact swing. Flashes of bat speed, high finish, maintains balance throughout swing.

Holden Breeze 3B / SS / Mesquite, AZ / 2019 Rankings  StateRank: 48 / POS: 3 5-foot-9, 165-pound frame. Offensively Breeze hit from an upright, open stance. Very simple, efficient swing that he repeats well and allows himself to be on time with relative ease. Line drive machine. Defensively profiles as a third baseman. Showed steady, confident hands and looked comfortable moving to both sides. Has the ability to throw from multiple angles across the diamond. Every time I see Breeze I like him more. He has a knack for finding the barrel in live game action, doesn't ever seem to make errors and has improved physically across the board, posting a 7.18 60-yard dash, an 84 mph infield velocity, and a 91 mph exit velocity. Breeze also showed interesting abilities on the mound. His arm slot ranged from a near overhand release, to a near side arm release, and anywhere in between. Used his arsenal of pitches from all angles. His change up was thrown at 76-77 mph with sinking action. Curveball ranged from 73-77 mph. Also showed feel for a knuckleball. His frame doesn't stand out, but the production becomes hard to ignore the more you see him play.

Jacob Alexander SS / RHP / Queen Creek, AZ / 2019 Rankings  StateRank: 60 / POS: 11 6-foot-3, 175-pound frame. Alexander has always looked the part and is starting to scratch the surface of what he could be. Alexander looks even taller than his listed height and shows the same smooth, effortless actions and swing we've seen from him previously, registering an 83 mph infield velocity and an 87 mph exit velocity on this day. Posted a 7.07 60-yard. He's also recently taken up pitching, touching 85 from the right side with a clean arm action. Fastball featured arm side run. Breaking ball was thrown at 69-74 mph that flashed sharp downer break when released out in front. Change up showed sinking action at 71-73 mph.  Could be very intriguing for a strong juco while he continues to develop physically and potentially reaches his very high ceiling.

Dylan Cuenca 3B / SS / Desert Vista, AZ / 2019 Rankings  StateRank: 65 / POS: 4 6-foot-1, 180 pound frame. Athletic build with apparent strength. Cuenca has always impressed with his combination of speed and strength, and on this day he elevated his prospect status even more recording a personal best 6.66 60-yard dash, a personal best 87 mph infield velocity, and a solid 90 mph exit velocity. The swing is a bit unorthodox with significant stiffness, but he has made some positive refinements and it seems to work for him. Defensively profiles best at third base where he is now choosing to work out. Short, quick steps leading into fielding position. Replaces feet and plays through the ball well. Short, compact arm action and showed the ability to throw from all angles.

Thome Nickelson SS / 3B / Mountain View, AZ / 2019 Rankings  StateRank: 67 / POS: 13 6-foot, 155-pound frame. Significant room to add size and strength. Nickelson hit from a tall, open stance from the right side. Creates some separation. Bars the front arm. Attack angle varied but showed a nice flat path through the zone that produced line drive contact at times. Flashes of bat speed; 81 mph exit velocity. Defensively Nickelson worked out of the infield, profiling best at third or second. Solid hands and footwork, whippy arm action, low ¾ release, comfortable throwing from varying angles; 85 mph infield velocity. Has also worked out in the outfield previously. Also ran a 7.09 60-yard dash. Possesses multiple college-level tools.

Brayden Nichols SS / 2B / Sandra Day O'Connor, AZ / 2019 Rankings  StateRank: 115 / POS: 17 6-foot, 178-pound frame. Hit from a slightly open, balanced set up. Small leg kick, hands are very active throughout the swing, stiff front leg, posture tilts over plate, flashes of bat speed; 89 mph exit velocity. Defensively Nichols showed well on the infield moving better than his 7.13 60-yard dash would indicate. Second base profile. Showed range to both sides, played under control, fielded ball cleanly, played through ball well, kept feet moving at all times, comfortable throwing from varying arm angles on the run; 83 mph infield velocity.

Mason Kokodynski OF / RHP / Brophy Prep, AZ / 2019 Rankings  StateRank: 79 / POS: 22 6-foot-3, 205-pound frame. Kokodynski brings a legitimate physical presence and drove the ball with authority to all fields during his round of BP, also posted a 93 mph exit velo. Currently spends most of his time in the outfield, but his 7.58 60-yard dash profiles best to 1st base at the next level. Recorded an 81 mph infield velocity and an 85 mph outfield velocity. Kokodynski also hopped up on the bump sitting 81-83 mph with his fastball. Simple, repeatable delivery. Whippy arm action, brings ball very close to his head before going into a substantial amount of forearm layback. Curveball was thrown at 70-74 mph with fastball arm speed and varying shape but mostly 11/5. Change up showed considerable arm side life at 76-77 mph. Intriguing two-way prospect.

David Enriquez 3B / SS / Millenium, AZ / 2019 6-foot-2, 200-pounds. Big, strong frame with broad shoulders. Offensively hit from a tall, open stance. Lifts leg in the air and rides momentum into contact. Creates good separation, barrel takes an efficient path into the zone, looking to hit the ball in the air, high one handed finish; 86 mph exit velocity. Defensively Enriquez profiles as a corner infielder, currently working out at 3B, but more likely ending up across the diamond at first. Moves upright, could sink hips lower. Fields the ball cleanly out in front, replaces feet playing through the ball, tendency to double tap his glove while taking an extra step, strong arm, ability to throw from multiple angles; 87 mph infield velocity. Also posted a 7.62 60-yard dash.
