SALPOINTE HITS FIVE HRS IN VICTORY

The Lancers remain undefeated and have had plenty of offense to start the 2021 season. They have scored 10 + runs in 5 of their 7 victories so far. The lancers had 4 players with a HR in their game vs Pueblo Magnet on Friday. 2022 Omar Monreal hit two in the game. Seniors, Cade McGee, Jack Rogers & Gabe Preble all had one HR each. So far, They seem to have one of the stronger offenses in our top-25 with some solid starting pitching to go along with it.

TUCSON NOTCHES 7TH VICTORY

Speaking of high powered offenses, Tucson has scored plenty of runs themselves. They are outscoring their opponents in 2021 by a total of 91 to 3. Their only loss is to Salpointe Catholic (above). One of their best hitters this season has been 2022 OF Ruben Villaescusa who was 3 for 4 with a HR & double on Friday, scoring two runs and logging 5RBIs. Villaescusa is up there with some of the state leaders in HRs so far this season and could be one of the more underrated hitters in the class.

APOLLO TAKES DOWN SUNRISE MOUNTAIN

The Apollo Hawks pitching staff threw some quality innings on Friday and were able to keep the Sunrise offense to a minimum. They used three different pitchers that didn't allow a single earned run all game. Senior, Braden Coburn got the start and went 4 innings, allowing 1 unearned run on two hits and two walks, he struck out 5 batters. Sophomores, Richie Gonzales & Anthony Riveras came in relief and didnt allow a single run. Riveras also had a big RBI double in the game. Cristhian Flores also had a 2RBI single in the first inning.

OTHER PERFORMANCES:

2021 LHP Connor Hill (Point Loma) started on the mound for Millennium in their win vs Agua Fria. Hill threw 6 shutout innings with10K, 3BB, 2Hs. 2022 CF Kaleb Duncan had 3 hits in the game from the leadoff spot for the Tigers including a triple & double, showing off his speed. Duncan scored 3 runs and had 3 RBIs.

Alhambra stays undefeated with their win at Willow Canyon. They had their ace on the staff in 2021 RHP Daniel Avitia (Grand Canyon). The Lions are going to be a pretty tough team to beat all season long when hes on the mound. He went the complete game in the evening, recording the shutout victory for the Lions. Avitia threw 7 innings, striking out 13 batters while surrendering two hits & two walks. Juniors, Erubiel Ortiz & Eder Vargas provides most of the offense from the top of the order. Ortiz had the first hit of the game with a double to RCF. Vargas hit a 2RBI triple down the RF line in the 2nd.
