Tucson teams show up

When you post rankings there is never an absolute formula and there will always be people that question them. Certain teams play tougher schedules early, some teams play tougher schedules late. Others play pretty consistent competition while others might belong in a new conference. In baseball, anyone can really beat anyone on any given day. Some of the questions we get are about putting teams below 6A & too many teams from Southern AZ in our rankings. Yesterday, we took a trip down to Tucson to watch Salpointe, CDO & Tucson Magnet. After taking those games in, there is really no denying that those teams can play with anyone in the state. Even though, Salpointe & CDO are 4A schools, their lineups stack up pretty well against anyone we have seen this year, top to bottom.

Performances:

2021 RHP Dante Schindler (Canyon Del Oro)- Pima commit, was pretty dominant last night against Salpointe Catholic. He went the complete game allowing 1ER on 4 hits. Schindler struck out 10 batters while not surrendering a single walk.

2022 OF Kolby Felix (Liberty)- uncommitted, hit two home runs in a 10-0 victory against Chaparral. Felix was 3 for 3 in the game with 3 runs & 5 RBIS. 2021 Kaden Schiefelbein also hit a home run and has one in back to back games now. Schiefelbein also threw 5 innings for the Lions, striking out 10 batters in 5 innings while not giving up a single run.

2022 OF Gavin Turley (Hamilton)- Oregon State commit, hit a HR in the top of the 5th inning to put the Huskies up by 1 run vs Brophy College Prep. It was enough as 2021 LHP Brock Selvidge went the distance on the mound, only allowing 1 earned run on a walk & 5 hits. He struck out 5 batters & hit a double in the game.

2021 Austin Humphres (Shadow Ridge)- Arizona State commit, had a no hitter intact through 5 innings last night vs Sunnyslope who took them down the previous meeting. Humphres threw 6 shutout innings, striking out 3 batters while allowing 2 hits and 3 walks. 2021 OF Jackson Brenna who is currently uncommitted had a double & HR in the game for the stallions.
