unsigned seniors

Tate Scott OF / RHP / Chandler , AZ / 2022

6-foot-1 180 pounds, Tate Scott is an uncommitted 2022 prospect out of Chandler High with size, strength, and athleticism. Scott is a key piece to Chandler's offensive success at the top of their order, with a flat swing and ability to drive the gaps. Scott will be a great addition to many programs as a LH bat and athlete in the outfield.

Ruben Castro SS / RHP / Tucson, AZ / 2022

6-foot-1 188 pounds, Future Games Participant, Ruben Castro is a two-way prospect with great arm strength, a good glove, and solid hit tool. Uncommitted 2022 looking to contribute largely to Tucson High School's success in the 2022 season. Castro will get quality innings and drive in runs for his squad. Excited to see where Castro continues his career.

Jaydan Israel SS / 2B / Desert Ridge, AZ / 2022

5-foot-10 165 pounds, Jaydan Israel is a top contributor for Desert Ridge High. As a switch hitting shortstop. He brings value to his team with the ability to hit from both sides of the plate, and play clean and consistent defense. Israel's defensive instincts are high, with soft hands and active feet. Arm strength is limited, but the way he plays the position will allow him to stay on the left side for now. He has a handsy and direct bath path from both sides with developing power from the left side.

Austin Balmes RHP / 3B / Corona Del Sol, AZ / 2022

6-foot-2 175 pounds, Austin Balmes will take on a large role for Corona Del Sol this spring as a leader for their pitching staff. Athletic delivery with good action to all three of his offerings. Command is there with potential velo increase in the future.

Notes from 1/30:

Faced 5 hitters, allowed 1 hit, 0 runs, 1 strike out. Showed some good feel for the SL with decent spin numbers. CH plays 10-12 mph off the FB with 16" of HM. Great athlete on the mound, seems to understand the game and how to attack hitters, will defend his position on the mound.

Thomas DeChesaro RHP / 3B / Saguaro, AZ / 2022

5-foot-10 190 pounds, two-sport athlete with size and strength. Dechesaro has had success already this season for Saguaro on both sides of the ball. He's been up to 86 mph with the FB and SL has been missing bats. Senior leader for Saguaro that will bring some offensive production as well. Excited to continue following him through the spring and learning more about his skillset.

Toby Haarer RHP / C / Desert Mountain, AZ / 2022

6-foot 170 pounds, Toby Haarer is one of the top arms this year for Desert Mountain's pitching staff. Uncommitted 2022 right hander expected to have a big spring on the mound for the Wolves. Haarer has been in the mid-upper 80's this fall/spring with the FB.

Ruben Villaescusa OF / RHP / Tucson, AZ / 2022

6-foot-2 200 pounds, Ruben Villaescusa is an uncommitted two-way prospect out of Tucson High. Villaescusa has size, strength, arm strength, and offensive potential. Villaescusa will get quality innings on the mound for Tucson, and be one of their top offensive contributors.

Notes from 10/17/21

Positional Profile: OF/RHP Has some strength, size, and good actions. Upside as a two way prospect.
Body: 6-2, 200-pounds. Strong build, strength in lower half.
Hit: RHH. Simple setup, base outside out shoulder width slightly open. Hands are held just above the back shoulder with some rhythm. Loads onto back side and creates some separation with hands. Swing is flat and creates consistent hard contact. On ground balls to pull side he just gets a hair out front and can't hold his line any longer. Would benefit from pushing the ball back a bit and making contact from a stronger position, this would create more line drive contact to gaps. Overall swing works well with good bat speed.
Power: 100.76 max exit velocity, averaged 89.36 mph. 360’ max distance. Ball is impacted well with backspin flight.
Arm:  OF - 87 mph. Throws from a high 3/4 slot. Ball has slight 2 seam carry. Arm strength is good and throws were accurate.
Defense: Footwork and glove work is consistent. Takes some time to get the ball out in the OF, slower release time, but the arm strength is there. LF seems to be best spot defensively.
Run:  runner in the 60.

Delivery: Simple mechanics out of the windup and stretch. Uses a slide step out of the stretch. Good mix of pitches.
Arm Action: RH. Throws from a 3/4 slot. Good mix of pitches with consistent release points.
FB: T85.71, 79.94-83.70 mph. Likes to work arm side and down with the FB. Has some good horizontal movement to it that will get in on RHH hands.  T2276, 2041 average rpm.
CB: 68.34-70.43 mph.  T1942, 1583 average rpm.
SL: 71.23-72.53 mph. Commanded well with some late break to it. When it starts middle and ends up on black away, that's when it's best.  T2088, 1902 average rpm.
CH: 72.00-73.56 mph. Throws with FB arm speed and has some horizontal break. Tends to fly open with front side and misses are side. When he stays closed and gets down the mound it's effective.  T773, 773 average rpm.

Michael Williamson 3B / 1B / Seton Catholic Prep, AZ / 2022

6-foot-4 205 pounds, Michael Williamson is a corner infielder with a very projectable build and controlled actions. Williamson is a two sport athlete, currently wrapping up his senior football season playing wide receiver. Williamson has a simple set up at the plate, square to the pitcher and a base that is just outside of shoulder width, with the bat rested on his shoulder. The stride is short and direct to the pitcher, allowing him to stay grounded and keeps himself in a strong position to hit. The swing is flat, and produces a high rate of hard contact with true ball flight. Some length is created with the hands early, if that length is cut out, his bat path is efficient and he gets great extension through the baseball. Williamson's foot speed is about average for his size, but he's got graceful and soft actions at the two corner infield spots. A slight funnel action with the hands when fielding ground balls, and the arm has shown to be a tool of his. Arm strength plays well from the left side. Williamson is more than capable of playing a corner infield or outfield spot. Michael Williamson is a power potential corner guy with size and arm strength, an interesting follow through the 2022 spring season.

Dominic Palma SS / 2B / Cactus Shadows, AZ / 2022

5-foot-10 160 pounds, Dominic Palma has made a large jump in this rankings update as a skilled uncommitted 2022 prospect out of Cactus Shadows. Palma will be playing SS this year for a talented Cactus Shadows club, as athleticism and defensive ability are two of his top traits. Palma has a athletic build with strength throughout his body, as he has gained that strength he once needed this time last year. He has a simple and direct bat path that produces a high rate of line drive contact to the gaps with speed that plays on the base paths. Palma can be a big time difference maker for his team over at Cactus Shadows this year as a sure handed SS at the top of their order.

Brady Thomas SS / 2B / Desert Vista, AZ / 2022

Brady Thomas has a strong and athletic build, baseball IQ, and leadership qualities. He's got a smooth swing from the left handed batters box, and the ability to play all 4 infield positions. Thomas is a fundamentally sound player, that is going to turn in quality at bats and play clean defense. Gap-to-gap line drive approach with some pull side strength.

Notes from 2/26/22

Brady Thomas turned in a great performance on Friday, with 2 doubles to the right center gap in his first two plate appearances. Thomas has the ability to play any spot in the infield and has a smooth swing from the left handed batters box. High energy player at the top of the order for Desert Vista that will play a big role in the Thunder's offensive success.

2-4 2 2B
