Prep Baseball Report is excited for the return of Player of the Year Awards, presented by Big League Chew, after the 2020 season was cut short and 2021 generated some incredible individual moments and performances throughout Arizona. As the spring high school season comes to a close, Prep Baseball Report is excited to announce one player who emerged ahead of the competition at all levels in the state. This player has been selected not only for their outstanding statistical numbers, but also for their overall effect on their high school program.

2021 SS Wes Kath (Desert Mountain)

The Arizona State signee put together one of the more dominant offensive performances of the year during his senior campaign while leading his squad to a 5A State title. To cap off a high school career and to begin a new one, there is a good chance we hear Kath's name called in the 2021 MLB Draft in July. Kath's national stock was on the rise throughout the spring as one of top left-handed hitters in the entire class. He had a slash line of .486 /.612 /1.803 on the season while logging 22 RBIs & 29 runs on 9 doubles, 4 triples, and a state leading 11 home runs. His ability to use the whole field with authority was quite impressive throughout the year. Earlier this year, Kath showed his ability to take over a game by going 5 for 5 in a game with 3 home runs & 2 triples including the walkoff to give his team the win. He's a solid everyday shortstop at the high school level and improved his speed & quickness going into the season. He will more than likely still move over to 3B in the future but his bat has everyone's attention. Wes Kath's all-around performance, as well as the impact he has had on Desert Mountain High School, has earned him the 2021 Prep Baseball Report Arizona Player of the Year honors.
