On, Aug. 22 Prep Baseball Report Arizona held the Phoenix Summer Review at Grand Canyon University. The Phoenix Summer Review is an annual open showcase accessible to the high school players in the Phoenix area, granting players the opportunity to be evaluated by the PBR Arizona staff while their tools were analyzed by state-of-the-art technologies on-site. 

With some talented players in attendance, there were some stand out performances. Landon Zaborowski (Basha, 2023) was in attendance. Landon is a mixture of size and finesse, with a projectable body with clean actions all the way around the diamond. Collin Riff (Saguaro, 2022) was a standout on the mound. Riff posted the event's top FB velocity with a 6-foot-6 frame. And Seth Moore (Chandler, 2022) had an impressive day with the bat, posting event highs in exit velocity, max distance, max hand speed, and max bat speed.

Scouting Reports

Andrew Balian, Sunrise Mountain (AZ), 2024
Positional Profile: C/RHP
Body: 6-foot-1, 160-pounds.
Defense: 2.09-2.29 pop times. Throws to 2nd base were on line. Quick transfer, direct actions from glove to hand. With the use of lower half arm strength should improve.
Arm: RH. C - 70 mph. Quick arm, throws from a high 3/4 slot. Velocity to 2nd base was recorded at 70 mph (C) with 4 seam flight. Uses all arm, can improve arm strength by using more lower half.
Hit: RHH. Open upright narrow setup with stance. Uses a leg kick, creates some length with hands while wrapping barrel. Leg kick takes him to his front side. Slightly disconnected, hips fly while upper body stays closed. Path is slightly uphill, catches the ball deep. Top spin flight to the pullside on occasion. Max exit velocity was 90 mph with a peak distance of 270 feet.
Run: 7.60 runner in the 60. 

Delivery: Has repeatable tempo, timing with the arm is consistent. Pitches with some craft.
Arm Action: RH. Delivers from a 3/4 slot. All 3 pitches seem to tunnel well. Lets his pitches work.
FB: Sat 73-75, topped at 76 mph. Has some arm side run, seems to be more comfortable to the arm side.
SL: Sat 66-67 mph, average spin of 1235. Cutterish, tends to get around it at times.
CH: Sat 65-66 mph, good command. Starts middle and drops off armside and down in the zone.

Nicolas Barreras, Mountain Pointe (AZ), 2023
Positional Profile: 1B/OF
Body: 5-foot-7, 125-pounds. Room for physical maturity
Defense: Comes in on the ball well in the outfield, consistent timing with release.
Arm: RH. OF - 73 mph. Throws from a high 3/4 slot. Throws were through the cut in the outfield.
Hit: LHH. Shoulder width base with a knee to knee leg kick.Creates some separation with his hands during leg kick.  Uphill path, creates topspin to pullside. Average exit velocity was 73 mph, 45% fly balls.
Run: 8.16 runner in the 60. 

Aidan Bever, Mountain Ridge (AZ), 2022
Positional Profile: C
Body: 5-foot-10, 165-pounds. Proportionate strength
Defense: 2.1-2.22 pop times. Clean and quick transfers, efficient with the glove. Direction to 2nd base on throw downs is good, stays on line with a good base. Best pop to 2nd was 2.1. Showed fundamental blocking technique and was quick and athletic with recovery and throw.
Arm: RH. C - 70 mph. Throws from a high 3/4 slot, short arm action. Ball comes out with 4 seam carry. Throws to 2nd were on line, some missed short. Recorded at 70 mph (C).
Hit: RHH. Narrow upright stance with higher hands. Starts narrow, gets into a stronger position after stride. Good bat speed with extension through the zone. Bat speed recorded at 73 on Blast. Two handed finish. Seems like he wants to play out front, max distance was recorded at 348 feet.
Run: 7.31 runner in the 60. 

Michael Caruso, Desert Vista (AZ), 2023
Positional Profile: 3B/RHP
Body: 6-foot-1, 165-pounds. Wiry strength, room for physical development
Defense: Loud actions with the body and feet. Glove is simple and direct when the ball is approaching. Quick transfers and release when moving laterally and in.
Arm: RH. INF - 88 mph. Throws from a high 3/4 slot. Strong/quick arm with carry across the diamond, recorded at 88 mph (INF). Accuracy is less consistent while throwing on the move.
Hit: RHH. Moderate width in stance, hands are pushed back in setup, barrel held almost in a flat position. Small simple stride, holds his ground well. Some length is created early due to positioning of his hands.  Length is created early, but the swing plane is simple and direct. Lets the ball get deep and uses the middle.Works low to the middle of the field, backspun line drives. Max exit velocity was 96 mph and peak distance was 325 feet. Bat speed ranked 2nd highest at the event, clocked at 75 on Blast.
Run: 7.02 runner in the 60. 

Delivery: Windup has some tempo to it. Athlete on the mound. Consistent with the timing of his separation.
Arm Action: RH. Throws from a high 3/4 slot. Slight change in tempo with FB and offspeed.
FB: FB sat 84-86 mph, topped at 86 mph. Threw his fastball with more conviction than his offspeed. Has slight armside run. Had an event high spin rate on FB at 2169.
CB:Sat 69-70 mph. Has downward 12/6 break. Commanded well in the zone.
CH:Changeup sat 73-77 mph. Straight change, plays about 10 mph off his FB. Kept it down in the zone.

Dylan Cole, Notre Dame Preparatory (AZ), 2024
Positional Profile: LHP/1B
Body: 6-foot-0, 150-pounds. Lanky, room for physical development.
Defense: Footwork is stagnant at times, with more fluidity he may be in a better position for easier to handle hops.
Arm: LH. INF - 71 mph. Longer arm action from a high 3/4 slot. Was recorded at 71 mph (1B).
Hit: RHH. Moderate width in stance with high hands keeping his barrel flat. Knee to knee stride. Not much extension through the zone. Max bat speed was clocked at 55 on Blast. Max exit velocity was clocked at 80 mph and peak distance was 241 feet.
Run: 7.90 runner in the 60. 

Delivery: Slower, methodical wide up. Gets down the mound well. Repeatable mechanics with some length in the body.
Arm Action: LH. High 3/4 slot, gets out front well. Whipy arm.
FB: Fastball was consistently at 72 mph this day. Has some armside run. Spin rate was recorded at 1732.
SL:Slider sat 56-57 mph. Inconsistent with release point on slider. Loopy break.
CH:Sat 60-63 mph. Showed to be his best offspeed pitch on this day. Straight CH commanded well down in the zone.

Dyllan Curthoys, Willow Canyon (AZ), 2023
Positional Profile: RHP/1B
Body: 5-foot-10, 190-pounds.
Defense: Feet get stationary at times, more active feet will allow him to field better hops.
Arm: RH. INF - 70 mph. Throws from a low 3/4 slot. Ball has 2 seam action across the diamond. Clocked at 70 mph (1B).
Hit: RHH. Narrow and slightly open setup, resting his bat on shoulder. Uses a leg kick and creates some separation with hands, slight bat cock during load.  Compact swing with two handed finish, tends to come around the ball at times. Wants to work to the pull side. Max exit speed was clocked at 94 mph with a peak distance of 342 feet.
Run: 7.59 runner in the 60. 

Delivery: Throws from the stretch, slower leg lift. Repeatable sidearm delivery.
Arm Action: RH. Throws from two different arm slots. Uses a high 3/4 slot and low 3/4 slot. Both arm actions are short.
FB: High 3/4 slot FB has slight armside run. When he goes low 3/4 there's some heavy sink. Sat 73-75 mph.
CH:Sat 61-64 mph. Thrown from both slots, same action from both slots. Straighter CH, has slight depth to it. Throws it for a strike.

Oscar De Luigi, Desert Mountain (AZ), 2024
Positional Profile: SS/RHP
Body: 5-foot-10, 125-pounds. Room for physical maturity
Defense: Some wasted movement in angles/first step. Glove work is clean despite not always putting himself in the best fielding position. Does a good job staying in motion towards first base while fielding.
Arm: RH. INF - 63 mph. Pushy arm action from a 3/4 slot. Recorded at 63 mph across the diamond. Not much lower half involved in throws.
Hit: RHH. Generic setup, moderate width base. Small leg kick, tends to gain too much ground on stride causing some length with hands. Loses the barrel at times. Average exit velocity was 71 mph, was in the air 80% of swings. Needs more top hand involvement.
Run: 7.33 runner in the 60. 

Delivery: Pitches out of stretch. Slight roll with hands before separation.
Arm Action: RH. Throws from a 3/4 slot, longer arm action.
FB: Sat 69-71, has some armside run.
SL:Sat 60-62 mph, slurve.
CH:66-67 mph, pushy. Best when it gets more out front.

Dalton Douglas, Casteel (AZ), 2025
Positional Profile: LHP/1B
Body: 6-foot-3, 200-pounds. Large frame
Defense: Big body makes him a good target at 1B. Glovework was clean, actions were direct. With added athleticism footwork will improve.
Arm: LH. INF - 69 mph. Long arm action, over the top. Recorded at 69 mph (1B).
Hit: LHH. Sets up with moderate width in lower half, slight bend in the knees with high hands. Does not create much separation. Path does not have much extension through the zone, high finish. Creates topspin.
Run: 7.96 runner in the 60. 

Delivery: Throws from the stretch. Has a high leg kick. Slightly loses his posture at the top of his leg lift.
Arm Action: LH. Throws from a high over the top slot, arm action is pushy.
FB: FB sat 62-66 mph. 4 seam spin, ball stays true. Misses were high.
CB:CB sat 48-52 mph. Downward 12/6 break. Max spin rate of 1582.
CH:CH sat 52-54 mph. Straight change, 10-12 mph differential from his FB.

Mikel Faccio, Corona Del Sol HS (AZ), 2023
Positional Profile: RHP/C
Body: 6-foot-1, 180-pounds.
Defense: 2.15-2.31 pop times. Best pop time was recorded at 2.15. Longer footwork towards 2nd base. Has some extra movement with the glove during transfer. Will improve as athleticism builds.
Arm: RH. C - 70 mph. Throws from a high 3/4 slot. Ball has 4 seam carry to 2nd base. Clocked at 70 mph (C) to 2nd base. Accurate arm, will improve with more repetition and arm strength.
Hit: RHH. Tall, shoulder width setup with hands slightly raised. Uses a toe tap and creates slight separation with hands. Can be drifty at times.  Rotational with the upper body creating a longer path to the ball. Swing works much better when he lets the ball get deep, stays more connected. Max exit velocity was 88 mph, peak distance was 316 feet.
Run: 8.24 runner in the 60. 

Delivery: Windup has a quicker tempo. Gets down the mound well.
Arm Action: RH. Throws from a high 3/4 slot. Has a high front side and gets through his pitches well.
FB: Sat 75-78 mph. Stays true, has some tilt.
CB:63-65 mph with downward break. Misses were armside.
CH:68-71 mph. Straight change, commands it well down in the zone.

Braeden Figueroa, Hamilton (AZ), 2022
Positional Profile: SS/2B
Body: 5-foot-9, 140-pounds. Smaller frame, room for physical development
Defense: Efficient first step. Direct angles to the ball and has good rhythm and timing with feet. Hands play up a tick due to good body positioning and fielding clean hops. Not much wasted movement, actions are pretty simple. Showed he can throw from different body positions and arm slots.
Arm: RH. INF - 78 mph. Short arm action, catch and release type infielder. Throws from a high 3/4 slot. Recorded at 78 mph across the infield. Throws were on line, could play more through the cut.
Hit: RHH. Moderate width base, weight is on his back side. Simple stride and load, gets lungy with stride on occasion.  Direct hand path, creates some length at times. Catches the ball out front, gets good extension, able to stay on balls. Backspin flight off the bat. Ground ball/line drive hitter. Plays to his profile. Max exit velocity was 87 mph.
Run: 6.87 runner in the 60. 

Ethan Gibbs, Canyon (CA), 2022
Positional Profile: SS/2B
Body: 5-foot-11, 178-pounds. Wiry Strength
Defense: Tends to get stationary with feet when the ball is approaching. Can be more aggressive to the ball. Glove work is simple, funnels into the body. Gets the ball into his hand quickly and clean. Can throw from different arm angles.
Arm: RH. INF - 80 mph. Throws from a high 3/4 slot. Ability to throw from different arm angles. Clocked at 80 mph from SS.
Hit: RHH. Narrow upright and open setup with low hands. Uses a leg kick, gains ground with stride. Gets back into a more conventional hitting position, creates some length with hands during stride. Some length is created early, but lets the ball get deep and works inside. Good bat speed, was clocked at 74 on Blast. 97 mph exit velocity with a peak distance of 349 feet. Has some barrel tilt, balls were driven with good flight.
Run: 7.26 runner in the 60. 

Jaxon Hamilton, Corona Del Sol HS (AZ), 2024
Positional Profile: 
Body: 5-foot-6, 155-pounds.
Defense: Fields the ball in rhythm to first base. Skills on this day profile as a corner infielder, range is limited. Stays under control when moving laterally.
Arm: . INF - 69 mph. Throwing from a lower slot, ball has some 2 seam action.
Hit: RHH. Moderate width in setup, slightly open with bat rested on his shoulder. Uses a toe tap/leg kick and gains ground. Creates some length with a hand jack. Works inside the baseball and hits from a strong position.70% groud balls, works on top. Max exit velocity was 80 mph with a peak distance of 289 feet.
Run: 8.19 runner in the 60. 

Dom Harris, Horizon (AZ), 2024
Positional Profile: OF/3B
Body: 6-foot-0, 162-pounds.
Defense: Hands work well funneling the ball into his body. Plays a little bit taller, using a narrow base when fielding the ball. Works well to his left. Fields and throws with consistent rhythm and timing.
Arm: RH. INF - 83 mph. Throws from a 3/4 slot, quick arm action. Uses a lot of arm. Clocked at 83 mph (INF).
Hit: RHH. Shoulder width base with slight bend in the knees, resting bat on his shoulder. Uses a leg kick and creates some separation with hands, slight barrel wrap. Gains ground with stride creating some length early. Early rotation with hips causing him to bar out at times. Has some bat speed, clocked at 70 on Blast. Swing is flat, just needs to be shortened up and work more inside. Max exit velocity was 95 mph and peak distance was 342 feet.
Run: 7.50 runner in the 60. 

Kenan Harvey, Williams Field (AZ), 2023
Positional Profile: OF/RHP
Body: 6-foot-4, 200-pounds.
Defense: Inconsistent fielding balls on the ground in the outfield.
Arm: RH. OF - 81 mph. Throws from a high 3/4 arm slot, velocity was recorded at 81 mph (OF). Has a consistent release, throwing low through the cut.
Hit: RHH. About shoulder width with base, slightly open. Weight is pushed onto back leg, hands are held low. Uses a knee to knee leg kick creatingcreates some length with hands.  Bars out early, works best to pull side when he catches the ball out front. Tends to come over the top on the ground to pull side. Max exit velocity was 90 mph with a peak distance of 333 feet.
Run: 7.81 runner in the 60. 

Derek Kiepke, Liberty (AZ), 2024
Positional Profile: C/SS
Body: 5-foot-10, 175-pounds. Strength in lower half
Defense: 2.1-2.25 pop times. Quick and controlled actions behind the plate. Transfer is clean, tends to get tall while throwing to second. Best pop to 2nd was 2.1. Showed ability to block and move laterally.
Arm: RH. C - 71 mph. Short arm action, high 3/4 slot. Ball with some slight fade up the baseline. Recorded at 71 mph (C).
Hit: RHH. Wide setup with stance, strong in his legs. Keeps his hands low and elbows tighter together. No stride, slight load into backside. Flat swing, leads with the knob to contact.41% line drives with a mx distance of 325 feet. Wants to work inside the baseball.
Run: 7.55 runner in the 60. 

Brody Livingston, Pinnacle (AZ), 2022
Positional Profile: LHP/OF
Body: 5-foot-11, 160-pounds.
Delivery: Uses a slower, controlled windup. Repeatable with his delivery with good balance and keeps his core tight.
Arm Action: LH. Shorter arm action, delivers from a high 3/4 slot.
FB: FB sat 71-73, topping at 74 mph. Fastball has some armside run, seems to be more comfortable to the armside. Tends to get underneath his fastball at times. FB has most life when he's on top and down in the zone.
SL:SL sat from 61-64 mph. Average spin rate on SL was 1816. Has 10/4 break.
CH:CH showed to be his best pitch on this day. Sat from 68-70 mph. Commanded well at the bottom of the zone from a strike. Has some good action to the armside.

Nicolas Masciangelo, Mountain View (AZ), 2023
Positional Profile: OF
Body: 5-foot-8, 150-pounds. Proportionate body, room for physical development
Defense: Comes in on the ball aggressively and fields the ball cleanly. Bigger crow hop causing a slight delay with release.
Arm: LH. OF - 66 mph. Throws from a high 3/4 slot. Throws had 4 seam carry, clocked at 66 mph (OF).
Hit: LHH. Quiet setup, soft press into back knee with load. Very balanced. Flat swing, direction stays to the middle. Was able to hit balls on a line to all fields with backspin. Max exit velocity was 90 mph, gets on top and through balls, stays away from lazy high air.
Run: 6.98 runner in the 60. 

Seth Moore, Chandler (AZ), 2022
Positional Profile: 1B/3B
Body: 6-foot-1, 215-pounds. Stocky build
Defense: Feet were active, knew when to come and get balls and when to hold his ground. Showed some athleticism while moving laterally, spinning and throwing. Actions are loud but decisive, quick reads. Glove work plays up a tick because of good positioning.
Arm: RH. INF - 79 mph. OF - 82 mph. Throws from a high 3/4 slot. Clocked at 79 mph (1B). Throws were accurate. Clocked at 82 mph (OF). 4 seam carry, some misses high.
Hit: RHH. Moderate width setup with slight bend in the knees. Slightly open with stance and creates some length with load.  Creates length early, almost bars out and contact is deep. Works best when he's out front. Aggressive max effort swing. Max exit velo was 101 mph with a peak distance of 386 (both ranked #1 at workout). Also had the top hand speed and bat speed of the workout clocked on Blast.
Run: 6.73 runner in the 60. 

Gavin Noreus, Perry (AZ), 2022
Positional Profile: SS/2B
Body: 6-foot-0, 170-pounds.
Defense: Fundamental actions. Smooth moving infielder with ability to read hops. Glove is direct and simple with clean transfers. Moves well laterally.
Arm: RH. INF - 81 mph. Puts himself into a good position to throw no matter the body positioning. Throws form a high 3/4 slot. Good rhythm into throw, clocked at 81 mph (INF).
Hit: RHH. Quiet setup, moderate width base with slight bend in the knees, bat rested on shoulder. Uses a toe tap, loading onto back side.  Simple swing with an inside approach. Could use more top hand involvement. Max exit velocity was 91 mph with a peak distance of 329 feet.
Run: 7.07 runner in the 60. 

Adam Perri, Casteel (AZ), 2022
Positional Profile: RHP
Body: 6-foot-3, 185-pounds.
Delivery: Athletic and strong/compact delivery, sinks into back knee while getting down the mound.
Arm Action: RH. Delivers from a high 3/4 slot. Has a quick arm.
FB: FB sat 81-82 mph, topping at 83 mph. Stays true, thrown with conviction down in the zone.
CB:CB sat 69-70 mph with some downward 12/6 break. Max spin rate was 1855.
CUT:Cutter sat 74-77 mph. Slight cut action, enough to miss a barrel. Seemed to be more comfortable armside with the cutter.

Collin Riff, Saguaro (AZ), 2022
Positional Profile: RHP/1B
Body: 6-foot-6, 185-pounds. Lanky, long limbs, room for physical development
Defense: Big target at first base. Improvement with footwork would lead to cleaner hops.
Arm: RH. INF - 83 mph.
Hit: RHH. Wide base with slight bend in the knees. Hands are held shoulder height. Stride causes hips to open early on occasion.  Hands stay tight to body, almost bunched up. Short swing with a two handed finish. Struggles to get extension through the zone. Max exit velocity was 94 mph with a peak distance of 345 feet.
Run: 7.26 runner in the 60. 

Delivery: Starts with a wide base in the windup. Uses his length, gets down the mound well. Sinks into back knee during delivery. Has more extension with the front side on FB than offspeed.
Arm Action: RH. High 3/4 slot, quick arm action.
FB: 87-88 top 89 mph. Has some ride. With his length and extension out front, looks harder to naked eye.
CB:72-74 mph, sharp downward break.

Jake Romaine, Desert Vista (AZ), 2023
Positional Profile: OF/RHP
Body: 6-foot-0, 200-pounds. Athletic, high waisted
Defense: Soft hands in the infield. Funnels the ball into his body, putting himself in a good position to field clean hops. Athletic footwork, spinning and throwing from a shorter arm slot with accuracy. Fields balls cleanly in the OF with a consistent release.
Arm: RH. INF - 76 mph. OF - 82 mph. Clean arm with 4 seam carry, 3/4 arm slot. Recorded at 76 mph (INF) and 82 mph (OF). Outfield throws were low through the cut and accurate. Shorter arm swing from first base.
Hit: LHH. Wider base with straight up and down leg kick. Slight barrel wrap with leg kick. Over strides on occasion. Flat and direct hand path with extension through the zone. Ball flight was true, best contact was to right center field. 87% hard contact in two rounds of BP.
Run: 7.58 runner in the 60. 

Delivery: Throws from the stretch. Smooth delivery and gets down the mound well.
Arm Action: RH. Throws from a high 3/4 slot, effortless delivery.
FB: FB sat 79-82, topping at 82 mph. Good extension, gets out front well. Has some armside run. Seems to command FB better to armside.
CB:CB sat from 67-70 mph. Thrown with a spike grip. Tends to pull it, misses were gloveside down.
CH:Has some depth to it. Commanded well down in the zone. Sat 72-74 mph.

Dominick Scelfo, Casteel (AZ), 2024
Positional Profile: OF/LHP
Body: 5-foot-8, 130-pounds. Room for physical maturity
Defense: Clean catch and release from the outfield, consistently getting in a good position. Throws were through the cut and on line.
Arm: LH. OF - 75 mph. Recorded at 75 mph (OF).
Hit: RHH. Shoulder width base with bat rested on shoulder. Small up and down stride with simultaneous separation with hands. Holds his line with hands well, able to hit the ball on a line to all fields. Fundamental swing. Ball comes off the bat with backspin carry. Max exit velocity was 84 mph, 57% line drives.
Run: 7.40 runner in the 60. 

Delivery: Slow windup with a high front side, repeatable delivery. Was down in the zone with all three pitches.
Arm Action: LH. Throws from a higher slot, gets on top of the ball well.
FB: Sat 71-72, topped out at 73 mph. Slight arm side run, stays down in the zone.
CB:Sat 59-63, bigger 12/6 action. Best when it is middle down, tends to pull it at times.
CH:Sat 67-68 mph. Commands it down in the zone well. Not much depth. 

Landon Zaborowski, Basha (AZ), 2024
Positional Profile: 3B/1B
Body: 6-foot-2, 180-pounds. Physical build
Defense: Quiet actions. Hands and feet work gracefully and in rhythm. Consistently gets himself into a good strong position to throw. Trusts his arm, sits back on balls occasionally.
Arm: RH. INF - 83 mph. Throws from a high 3/4 slot. Short smooth arm action with quick release. Ball has great 4 seam carry across diamond, clocked at 83 mph (INF). Ability to throw from different slots.
Hit: RHH. Moderate width in setup, strong in his legs. Stays grounded. Small up and down stride, can see some weight being transferred to the back side. Hands are held shoulder height. Direct bat path, sprays the ball to all fields attacking inside part of the baseball. Ball stays true when hit to the pullside. Has the ability to drive balls deep to the middle and offside. Peak distance was 355 feet. 50% line drives and 37% fly balls, plays well to his profile.
Run: 7.79 runner in the 60.
