2020 BC Uncommitted Scout Blog - Hitters

Jordan Bach C / OF / Vancouver college, BC / 2021

Report: Bach was impressive during the entire workout. A 6’ 165lbs catcher with room to grow, Bach impressed with his bat during BP. He showed an athletic, fast twitch swing that produced line drives all over the field. Loads knee to knee with his lower half and rotates well, staying strong on his front side through contact. Swings with a slightly upward bat path which produced hard contact in the air and displayed fast hands through the zone. Behind the plate, he displayed an average arm throwing wise, sitting around a 2.0-2.2 pop, and looked the part receiving and blocking throughout the day. A kid to keep eyes on as a college coach and will only continue to improve the more he is on the field and in the cage.

Liam Bushey 3B / SS / MEI, BC / 2021

Report: One of the more intriguing players at the event was Bushey. There is a ton to fall in love with after watching him. A physical, well built 6’3, 200lbs kid who runs a 7.0 60 and has the power potential to make some huge waves in the near future. Defensively, Bushey showed an average arm from 3rd with improved fielding actions, needs to get lighter on his feet if he wants to stay at 3rd, but projects nicely as a 1st baseman or a corner outfielder. Tons to love and dream on with the swing. Bushey is long and loose with the hands through the hitting zone, starts in an upright stance and drops and drives into the baseball. Every ball jumps off the bat, producing wall banger line drives to all fields and went deep multiple times in BP to his pull side. Swing reminded many of Cody Bellinger with the uppercut swing path and the tall, high hand stance. With continued improvements to his game on the defensive side, and small refinements to his workable swing, Bushey is a kid to dream on for college coaches and pro scouts.

Ayden Hadley C / Langley Blaze, BC / 2022

Report: Left-handed hitting catchers with juice are a sought-after commodity at the college and pro levels of baseball, Ayden Hadley will make a coach or scout incredibly happy one day by providing those exact services. Behind the plate, he showed advanced receiving and blocking from multiple stances, handling arms very well throughout the workout. Pops 2.0 consistently and passes the eye test for a catcher with big legs and broad shoulders. At the plate, Hadley showed a smooth, effortless swing that produced backspin line drives to the gaps and effortless homeruns. Fairly simple set up in the box, slightly open stance with a small leg lift, hands and bat come through clean producing consistent results in BP and off live arms. Caught a barrel left on left during the scrimmage, ball one hopped the fence on a line. Hadley could be considered one of the top 2022 catchers in the country and will be an exciting prospect to track throughout the year.

Treyson Smith 1B / RHP / Mennonite Educational Institute, BC / 2021

Report: Big, strong, and physical, Trey Smith is what you look for in your prototypical lefty slugger 1st baseman. With an exit velo recorded as high as 102 mph off a tee, there is a lot to like about the pure left-handed swing of Smith. Stands wide in the box with a good base, Smith delivers the barrel to the zone quickly, and is long through contact and balanced throughout his swing. Lifts everything in the air, with true power to all fields. Went deep to left center, dead center, and right center in BP. Backspins everything and the ball carries well off the bat. Swing is similar to that of Freddie Freeman. Could benefit from becoming looser and more controlled in the box, as he does look a little rushed at times, but the base it there for Smith to become an elite hitter at the next level. Showed well defensively at 1st, good hands with the ability to make picks look routine. Overall, Smith would be a great pickup for any college looking for raw power from the left side, as well as a player who can lock down the 1st base position.

Jaden Lamothe 3B / RHP / Langley, BC / 2021

Report: Lamothe is one of the best athletes in the 21’ class. After running a 6.52 60 yard, he picked it clean on the infield at 3rd, showing good range and arm strength with the ability to throw from different slots. His athletic 6’1, 185lbs frame still has room to add size without sacrificing his elite speed, and his footspeed and arm plays well anywhere on the infield. He can also catch and play in the outfield too, a true super utility who does not seem to have a weak spot on the field. At the plate, Lamothe showed a clean and rhythmic swing with efficient moves and a clean bat path. Line drives all over the ballpark and mixed in a few no doubter home runs that got out in a hurry. All around, Lamothe impressed everyone at the field, look for him to be on many scouts radars as he continues to show his elite athleticism and fundamentally sound skillset throughout the year.

Mitchell Middlemiss OF / RHP / GW Graham, BC / 2021

Report: A true outfielder who projects as a RF at the next level, with the ability to move to CF, Middlemiss showcased his athleticism and all-around clean skillset well. Runs a 6.9 60, has a strong arm that gets good carry on his throws from the outfield and a simple, repeatable swing that produces line drives consistently. At the plate, Middlemiss stands wide and low, gets his hands into a good position at launch and uses his hips and legs well, firing his hands on plane with good bat speed. Utilized the whole field, back spinning  line drives to the wall and showing his power potential, going deep multiple times to his pull side. An interesting prospect to keep tabs on, would be a real good “get” for a college coach at any level.
