Baseball BC Canada JNT - Roster Invites

Baseball Canada has recently released their invitees for the upcoming annual Spring Training Camp this March, in St. Petersburg, FLA. They sent out 32 invites, 9 of which were sent to BC athletes, and one to a Saskatchewan athlete, who has recently made the decision to join the Langley Blaze baseball organization to compete in the BCPBL (British Columbia Premier Baseball League). Out of the 10 athletes, six are committed to play NCAA Div.1 baseball next fall, two NJCAA commits, with 2 left uncommitted. According to Baseball Canada, this camp will include  “daily workouts, a five-game professional schedule against minor league prospects” from various organizations, as well as the split squad Toronto Blue Jays on March 12th in Dunedin.

The invitees:

2019 WBSC Returners:

These three power arms were a part of the 6th place finishing Junior National Team at the 2019 WBSC U18 Baseball World Cup in Korea last September:

Theo Millas RHP / Alpha Secondary, BC / 2020

Report: Millas sits in the window of 87-89 range, touching 91, and projects to gain velocity with strength. His velocity is easy and controlled, and with a nice frame to grow into, big gains should come on the horizon. At T12, Millas dominated, striking out 4 in 2 innings of work and has shown the ability to hold his own against professionals in past outings for the JNT squad. This upcoming trip could be huge for his draft stock moving forward.

Jack Seward RHP / Charles Best, BC / 2020

Report: Seward sat at 88-91 at T12 last fall and has continued to blossom into one of the countries most prominent arms. He has a three-pitch repertoire currently, with a high 70s slider, and a low 80s change up. Seward has done well under many different spotlights. At T12, Seward got himself into trouble with walks, however he still struck out 3 in three innings and showed some elite pitches.

Justin Thorsteinson LHP / 1B / Langley, BC / 2020

Report: Thorsteinson has an impressive body at such a young age and has the strength and command to be an impact pitcher for OSU next year. He has shown three pitches, including a high 80s fastball with a clean delivery, and a change up/ breaking ball mix that he throws for strikes. He has shown well for JNT in the past and struck out three in 3 innings at T12 last fall. He is no slouch in the batter’s box either, showing his versatility as an athlete. Look for him to make some waves this March to up his stock moving towards June.

Here are the rest of the JNT members representing British Columbia:

Connor Caskenette C / 3B / Cowichan, BC / 2020

Report: Caskanette has continued to impress people with his defensive capabilities behind the dish and his developing power in the box. He has recorded exit velocities of upwards of 96mph, and sub-2.00 POP times in the past. He’s a wide body, with decent lateral movement behind the plate while blocking. JNT will be a great experience for him hitting off high-level pitchers, and if he does well it could be a big sign for things to come heading forward.

Brody Alexandre 3B / 1B / NA, BC / 2020

Report: Alexandre is the rawest of the bunch. Coming out of Saskatchewan, and moving recently to Langley, people are hungry to see what this kid can do after consistent exposure to high-level pitching. He had a tough time at Canada Cup, but was an RBI machine at T12. With the amount of power and bat speed he has, it should be just a matter of time before his inexperience no longer holds him back. He belted a homerun at the Rogers Centre in his grade 10 year at T12 and was a participant in the homerun derby this year. He has projectable power and will be a big signing for his post-secondary program of choice.

Noah Takacs RHP / OF / Oak Bay, BC / 2020

Report: Takacs is a free moving right-handed pitcher with room to grow. At BC Selects camp last summer he sat 87-89 touching 90. At T12 he impressed, throwing two innings and striking out 3, while not allowing a run. In 2018 he was reported touching 84 mph, showing consistent and steady growth in just a year. He has a whippy arm action, and the ball pops out of his hand with relatively easy velocity. He has been getting steadily better every time he has been seen, and there is no reason to assume it will stop anytime soon.

Gio Mezzomo OF / LHP / Centennial, BC / 2020

Report: Perhaps the strongest kid on this list. He led the PBL in homeruns, touched 88mph at the last T12 tournament, and competed well in the homerun derby. Mezzomo is a fast twitch, and athletic, and should only get better. He has shown a great work ethic, taking care of his body, and has been a force in the box wherever he has gone. This will be an important trip for him, and if he can show the same ability to connect with power against elite pitching, and continue carving up high-level hitters, he could legitimize himself as a two-way stud, and turn a lot of potential question marks into exclamation points.

Vic Domingo RHP / 3B / Saint Thomas More Collegiate, BC / 2020

Report: Domingo impressed a lot of people at Canada Cup and T12 this past year. His fastball is a comfortable 87-89, with good life and spin. He moves the ball well around the plate and has a good feel for a a breaking ball and change up. Scouts like his compete level on the mound and he has shown the ability to miss bats, as he struck out 3 in 2 innings at T12 and 10 in 7 innings at Canada Cup.

Russell Young C / OF / Langley, BC / 2020

Report: Young is a very athletic defensive catcher. He has great hands and footwork, sitting around a 2.00 POP time. His bat has a lot of life to it and is able to generate a decent amount of power, partly due to a very level swing as he gets on plane early and stays through contact. He has the athleticism to play anywhere on the field at a high level. Young has been under the radar for awhile, but his performance at T12 finally opened some doors for him. He is a gamer and will only get better with his competition.

Loreto Siniscalchi RHP / Langley, BC / 2021

Report: Despite the great company that Siniscalchi has with him on the Blaze pitching staff, he demands not to be overlooked. He is the lone 2021 on this list, but he might have the best stuff. He threw two innings at T12, and struck out 3 batters, without allowing a run. He has shown 90mph life and has the right kind of body. His breaking ball snaps into its 12/6 movement, with good depth and life, and works downhill well. He has also been leaving somewhat of a folk legend behind him, as he was a star player for the 2016 LLWS team from BC, threw a perfect game  with 17 strikeouts in 7 innings in 2017, and was the youngest member in 2018 on the JNT fall instructional roster at 15. Expect to see him leading a competitive 2020 Team BC on the mound this upcoming summer.
