IP Showcase Part 3: Young Arms To Watch

February's Inside Performance showcase in North Vancouver consisted mostly of 2020 and 2021 grads, but there was also a handful of 2022's who received an invite for showing early promise. In this last piece highlighting the pitchers from IP, we're going to take a look at three arms who flashed potential on the mound at a very young age.

Carson Latimer RHP / Sands, BC / 2022

Top velocity at IP- 85 mph

Latimer was arguably the most impressive youngster who pitched at Inside Performance, sitting consistently at 84-85 mph with a smooth, effortless delivery. At 6-foot-2 and just 175 pounds, the North Delta Blue Jays product has a lot of room to fill out and add muscle to his frame, which should result in more velocity on the heater. Latimer showed good command of the four-seamer, while also mixing in a high 70's breaking ball and a slider with sharp break. He can also swing it well, making him one of the most exciting two-way talents in the 2022 class. At just 16-years old, there's a lot to look forward to as Latimer develops over the next couple of years.

Auguste Turner RHP / SS / NA, BC / 2022

Top velocity at IP- 81 mph

Turner flashed a fastball in the 80-81 mph range at Inside Performance with fluent mechanics. At 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds, Turner is already quite developed for his age physically. He complements his heater with a curveball and changeup which are still a work in progress. With a dedication to improving his athletic traits and continued natural strength maturity, Turner will throw harder. With a 94 mph exit velocity at the plate as well, the UBC Thunder product could end up being a regular two-way player thanks to his impressive power. Nonetheless, there is some potential on the bump as well.

Christopher Olafson RHP / NA, BC / 2022

Top velocity at IP- 82 mph

Olafson is a 6-foot-1, 155 pounds right-hander who plays for the Coquitlam Reds. He throws his fastball in the 80-82 mph range, while generally relying on a curveball and changeup more often than the heater. As a young player, he will continue to develop physically, but Olafson does a good job using his lower half in his delivery already. Another two-way player from the 2022 class, the 15-year old also plays numerous different positions and has yet to find his best spot. But given his young age and the velocity already in the low 80's, with continued focus and dedication to his physical training, Olafson has the potential to be a two-way stud in the next couple of years.
