BC Scout Blog: Top Uncommitted Seniors

Cam Black-Araujo

We're now well into the year of 2025 and despite the cold/damp weather still in the air, the anticipation has already began to build as we're now nearly a month out from our showcase season opener with the Victoria New Year Invite on February 17th.

With the season slowly creeping up already, we're starting to see more and more names fly off the board in British Columbia as we're now up to 38 commitments in the senior class. While there's been a substantial amount of commitments, there's still a ton of high-end talent on the board in the class, as well some 2025s who will be moving back to the 2026 class.

Below, our staff will break down nine of the top uncommitted prospects in the province with scouting notes and video on how they fared this summer/fall and where they may fit into a college program.

LHP Reid Clague (Langley Blaze): Clague already boasts a number of offers from collegiate programs and shouldn’t be on the board much longer. The profile quickly stands out from the 6-foot-5, 195-pound left-hander and has steadily improved since we first had him on our Best of the West team in May of 2023. The fastball sat in the upper-80s throughout the summer and has begun inching into the low-90s coming out of the winter. The slider is the go-to secondary offering along with a developing changeup. Quick arm who’s stock is on the rise and will get several looks this spring from pro scouts on the West Coast.

OF Finn Hoeschen (North Shore Twins): Hoeschen was one of the biggest winners in British Columbia during the late summer/fall and remains one of the top uncommitted seniors in the province, although he will be looking to reclassify to the class of 2026. There’s plenty to like with Hoeschen starting with a lean frame at 6-foot-3, 195-pounds which guides his power projection from the left-side. Hoeschen ran a 6.65 at the Canadian Futures Showcase and profiles well in right field. Finished out 2025 as strong as any other position player in BC and will be name evaluators continue to keep an eye on.

RHP/3B Xander Guedes (North Shore Twins): Guedes is a two-way talent who’s been on the scene for some time now in British Columbia and possesses strength that allows him to impact a game on the mound or at the dish. The Senior Future Games alum lived in the mid-to-uppers 80s, while touching some 90s, throughout the summer and was able to fill up the zone with his three-pitch mix. 6-foot-1, 205-pounds and handles third base on the positional side but the power and ability to find the gaps are what bring the impact on the positional side of his game. Guedes will be moving back to the 2026 class following the summer and should get plenty of looks this upcoming season from colleges.

RHP Travis Harfield (Victoria Eagles): Harfield is one of the most athletic players in Western Canada right now which allow him to impact games in several different ways. It stood out the most on the mound this past year where we had seen him up into the low-90s, despite sitting mid-to-upper-80s on most occasions. Harfield spins the slider well at 72-73mph and rounds out his repertoire with a changeup at 79-80mph. We’ve also seen the Victoria Eagles product run a 6.53 60-yard dash and generate an exit velocity of 93.1mph. Strong lower-half, quick arm and athleticism have created a solid foundation to excel at the next level. Continues to represent Great Britain on the national stage.

SS Nolan Weinmeyer (Langley Blaze): Weinmeyer was one of the earliest commitments in British Columbia’s 2025 class when he committed to Illinois State back in 2023 but is now back on the board and one of the top uncommitted positional prospects in the country. The 6-foot, 175-pound shortstop made his first appearance on the Junior National Team this past October and went 4-for-21 with two runs scored, two RBI, six walks and seven strikeouts. Weinmeyer is looking for a home in the fall of 2026 and will be a main attraction on the Langley Blaze Pro Tour through Arizona in March.

RHP Ian Vandepol (Langley Blaze): Vandepol first really grabbed our attention in March of 2023 when he took the mound as an underclassman against Los Angeles Dodgers prospects. The 5-foot-11, 185-pound right-hander has long stood out with his mound presence and strike-throwing abilities. We last saw him in July where he was sitting 85-87mph, but we had him up to 89mph early on in the season. An arm who looks prepared to take the next step in his development as he prepares to compete collegiately, currently looking for a home in the fall of 2025.

RHP Walker Kokotailo (White Rock Tritons): Kokotailo has stood out with some of the best arm strength in Canada’s 2025 class for a while now but has really seemed to take the next step in his development as a pitcher over the past summer where he’s blossomed into one of the top 2025 MLB Draft arms on the West Coast. Prototypical pitcher frame at 6-foot-3, 190-pounds with a long, quick arm swing and filled up the zone during the fall where he impressed at the Blue Jays Canadian Futures Showcase and with the Canadian Junior National Team. The fastball sat 90-93mph in September at the Rogers Centre, paired with his sweeping slider at 81-83mph. Kokotailo has some college interest and shouldn’t be uncommitted much longer with the pedigree he’s able to bring.

RHP Everett Bertsch (P27 Academy): Bertsch turned into a Prep Baseball Canada fan favourite this summer with his poise on the mound, as well as his strength and strike-throwing abilities. The 6-foot-1, 200-pound right-hander recently transferred to P27 Academy where he has several schools lined up to see him early in the spring. Bertsch moves well with a loose arm and good direction, working with a three-pitch mix. The fastball consistently sat in the 85-89mph range this summer while topping out at 90mph. An exciting West Coast arm who’s continuing to reach new heights in his development and will be fun to see where he ultimately ends up.

CINF/OF Braeden Scott (UBC Thunder): Braeden Scott is another BC senior who really caught some attention throughout the summer when we stopped at the BC 40-man camp in July and then followed it up at the Canada Cup and Blue Jays Canadian Futures Showcase. Athletic 6-foot-1, 190-pound frame and brings some versatility with his ability to play any position on the dirt, aside from short, or a corner outfield spot. Athletic setup in the box with feet shoulder-width apart and keeps it simple, focusing on the middle of the field with the ability to hit to all fields. Scott seemed to make an offensive impact each time he took the field throughout the summer. Scott is a high-level athlete who also excels on the football field and is looking for a home in the fall of 2025, although he is eligible to become a 2026 if he wishes.
