Vancouver New Year Invite Preview

We're now rolling into the month of February which means we're just about two weeks out from our first 2025 showcase, starting with the Victoria New Year Invite hosted at Oak Bay Recreation Park. Just six days later, we will host the Vancouver New Year Invite at the University of British Columbia. The Vancouver New Year Invite will see 56 players come through the doors for the sold out event.
New Year Invite showcases serve as Prep Baseball's first events of the season and are also identifiers/qualifiers for Prep Baseball Canada National Teams including the Future Games, Senior Future Games, Best of the West Teams, West Coast Games and more. Our staff is excited to host this group in mid-February are already combing through the roster and seeing several high-level players who be sure to grab attention.
The event will feature a strop crop players from both the underclass and upperclass age groups and our staff begins to break it all down below.

Desmond Tregaskis RHP / C / South Delta Secondary School , BC / 2026One of the stronger RHP’s in his class. Desi put together an impressive sophomore season between an appearance at the Future Games, 7.1 shutout innings at the Canada Cup, posting a sub-2 ERA in PBL play and topped it off with a solid showing at the Rogers Centre in September. Nathan Baerg RHP / Yale Secondary School, BC / 2025Baerg represented Prep Baseball Canada at the PNW State Games and the West Coast Games in 2024, pitching well at both events. Devin Wood RHP / Fraser Heights Secondary, BC / 2025Wood features a 4 pitch mix with advanced pitchability that lends to success in game. He posted a 2.19 ERA over 54.1 innings in league play last year. Tory Hutchinson SS / C / pmss, BC / 2025One of BC’s better uncommitted position players, Hutchinson showed well at multiple events during the fall,with a peak exit velocity of 91.8 MPH. Primarily a middle infielder Tory has also shown upside behind the plate, with a pop time of 1.90 at the Whalley Scout Day. Brydon White C / RHP / Lord Tweedsmuir, BC / 2027White jumped on the scene with a loud performance on both sides of the ball at the Lower Mainland Fall Open ID. At the North Vancouver Holiday Hitters event White posted a peak exit velocity of 95.2 MPH, a nearly 8 MPH increase in the 2 months between showings. Joshua Romero OF / RHP / Thomas Haney , BC / 2028A toolsy two-way player with an athletic frame. Romero recently made the jump to Delta, joining one of the country’s top 15u teams. At previous events he posted a peak exit velocity of 87.2 MPH with bat speeds in the high 60’s. Douw Van Heerden RHP / 1B / Argyle Secondary, BC / 2028At 6-foot-4, 222-pounds, Douw is definitely the most physical prospect in his class. The Freshman out of North Shore topped 82 MPH with his fastball at the Junior Future Games last summer. Douw has also shown steady improvement in the box, recently posting exit velocities north of 90 MPH. Raymond Zweep C / OF / Handsworth , BC / 2027Our staff recently got their first official look at Zweep and he did not disappoint. The left-handed hitting catcher/outfielder displayed fast twitch athleticism and quick hands, with a peak exit velocity of 89.7 MPH.
