2021 Player Rankings

The 2021 class in California is chalk full of players that have on some level gained national recognition and others who should soon follow suit. While only freshman, these players have gained valuable experience on the varsity level in some of the best leagues across the state. Most of these players are starting on some of the best teams in the state and putting up the type of performances that have and will continue to attract the attention of not only college coaches but pro scouts as well.
While the new recruiting regulations may have an impact on the recruiting process of underclassmen in the future, ten of our top 25 players have already made Division I commitments.
Let's take a look at some of the players you may not have heard of yet, but are certain to know a lot about in short order.
Alonzo Treadwell (Mater Dei HS) checks in at the No. 1 spot in our initial Class of 2021 player rankings. At 6-foot-4, 190-pounds, Tredwell is a physically imposing player that oozes projection. The freshman hits in the middle of the order for the famed Mater Dei Monarchs and has seen his fair share of time on the mound.
Coming in at the No. 2 spot is Roc Riggio (Chaminade Prep HS) a left-handed hitting catcher/outfielder. Riggio, who played on the 15U National Team last summer, is a hitting machine that projects power in a big way. A smooth and powerful left-handed stroke has already caught the attention of pro scouts based on the some of the events he's been invited to participate in as a freshman.
Marcelo Mayer (Eastlake HS) is a silky-smooth shortstop whose bat flashes special traits comes in at No. 3 in our rankings. Starting at shortstop for one of the best teams in San Diego, Mayer is very projectable given his 6-foot-1, 155-pound size and his current tools which are above average across the board now. With the assumption that Mayer will continue to develop physically, it's easy to see why he's a known name already.
The No. 4 spot is locked up by Cody Schrier (JSerra HS) who is the next in a long line of standout shortstops for the Lions following Chase Strumpf and Royce Lewis. A long, lean, athletic middle infielder, Schrier shows the offensive and defensive skill set that makes him one of the best in the area. Quicker than he is fast, Schrier has the ability to get to balls up the middle and more than enough arm strength to make up for any minor deficiencies. Shows the ability to drive the ball which should become more consistent with added strength.
Rounding out the top five is Jonathan Cymrot (Valley Christian HS) who is a legitimate two-way player now and could be the same once he gets to the next level. A physical 6-foot, 190-pounds, Cymrot projects to add strength as his body continues to mature. With a fastball that touches 86, Cymrot shows a clean, easy delivery that is repeatable from a high ¾ slot. At the plate Cymrot shows maturity in his pitch selection and approach. With current gap-to-gap abilities, Cymrot should have over-the-fence power when his body is fully matured.
