VENTURA, CALIF. - As the entirety of the of the California High School sections are underway with regular season games Prep Baseball California will be highlighting weekly games of the week with some of the best matchups from all over the Golden State.

This week our staff has picked these four matchups as their top games of the week from around the State of California:

Game Preview:  

A pair of perennial SoCal/State/National powers will take the field in a Prep Baseball California Power 25 Top 10 matchup. The Wolverines are four games into their 2025 schedule and are off to a strong start sitting at 3-1 with a pair of shutouts from their pitching staff. Also, in their third win they allowed just two runs, before suffering their first defeat in another Top 10 matchup against Santa Margarita Catholic. Huntington Beach on the other hand will be kicking off their 2025 slate by hosting the Wolverines and their roster is absolutely loaded with D1 commits across the '25-'27 grad classes, with several members of their '25 class will be well watched by MLB scouts for the upcoming draft. The Oilers have several talented options who could take the ball to open their season from '25 grads Bellerose and Espinoza, but don't be surprised if '27 Jared Grindlinger gets the opening day nod while the Wolverines are likely to turn to '26 Evan Alexander for the matchup, with several other talented arms who could square off with the Oilers deep lineup. A tremendous early season tilt between two programs who have hopes of making a deep run the CIF-Southern Section playoffs.

Game Preview:  

Both teams enter this early season matchup coming off big wins to open their 2025 campaigns. The Tigers of Edison High School took down Madera South 12-4 by collecting eight hits to plate those 12 runs as they prepare to face off with the Golden Eagles. Clovis West has played two games so far in 2025 and have plated 17 runs in those two games while allowing only four runs including a big 9-1 win over Arroyo Grande. Steward and Miscione enter the game leading the Golden Eagles in RBIs while Miscione has the lone homer on the year for them after two games and leads the team with five hits. With a pair of potent early season offenses matching up it will be a test of which pitching staff can hold down the opponents offense.

Game Preview:  

In a Power 25 matchup for Northern California the talented Granada Matadors program will be playing host to the visiting Cardinal of Cardinal Newman. Each program will have an earlier in the week game so exactly who takes the mound for each team is not known yet, but there is a good chance we could see a match up of D1 commits with potentially Josh Jannicelli toeing the rubber for Cardinal Newman while Jake Sekany could take the mound for Granada. The Cardinal dropped a heartbreaker to Whitney to open their season in a 3-2 loss while the Matadors suffered a tough 2-0 loss against St. Ignatius College Prep before shutting out James Logan. It will be a fantastic early season matchup between two of the premier programs in Northern California.

Game Preview:  

Torrey Pines made a tremendous run in the 2024 CIF-San Diego Section playoffs to claim the Open Division title with a Senior laden roster last year. Now with some new faces taking over in key spots for the Falcons they will get an early season test by squaring off with the #12 ranked Patrick Henry Patriots. As noted by Matt Monk of Prep Baseball California the Patriots of Patrick Henry may have the most talented pitching staff in all of San Diego and could compete with any staff around the state of California. We are likely to get a pair of aces taking the bump on opening day with Swanberg of Torrey Pines (recent UCSB commit) likely to square off against Cody Cappelletti of Patrick Henry which will make runs at a premium for both squads.
