Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across California.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in their respective CIF Section Championship Game, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview these individual programs across California. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, eventually releasing our Preseason Power 25 rankings.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across California. Each week we will be releasing our Power 25, Players of the Week, Diamond Notes, podcasts, and much more.

BOTTOM LINE

We lost several key pieces from our 2024 squad especially on the mound with Mattis and Gallimore moving on, but we also bring back several key pieces who will take up new roles in addition to their previous ones. Kiesling was our primary closer last year and now should front our rotation with Gregory likely the front runner to take over he closer role. Our offense will be paced Gregory, Kielsing and Barraza. I feel like we have done a good job of developing the next wave of varsity players here at Cabrillo and anticipate some of the newcomers to be ready to perform and with a Sr. leader like Gregory here to help guide this next group I feel comfortable heading into the year that we can continue to play at a high level. - Coach Osborne

PREP BASEBALL CA STAFF’S TAKE

Cabrillo has put together a pair of really strong season from 2023-2024 including an appearance in the 2023 CIF-Central Section Championship game and a CIF-Central Section Quarterfinal run in 2024. They are going to have the challenge of replacing a pair of dominant arms in Mattis and Gallimore who accounted for the majority of their innings in 2024 with eye-popping numbers. But, Kiesling has the arm talent and athletic ability to be as strong on the mound as either of those two and if other arms can take steps forward to stabilize the pitching they should be just fine on the bump. The lineup will depend on the production of talented LH hitting catcher Blake Gregory who has leadoff in the past but may shift down to the middle to help provide more thump/run production while Kiesling also has impact in his bat and I'm personal fan of the offensive profile for Barraza, again the key here will be how the newcomers perform and the development of a few of their returning pieces from 2024. Coach Osborne has done a fantastic job of developing the program at Cabrillo and his work to continue the growth of the talent coming up the pipelines for the Conquistadores has them in a spot to continue to compete atop their league in 2025. - Assistant Scouting Director Steven Hardesty
