The 2025 California high school baseball season is quickly approaching and, as usual, excitement is abound throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across California.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in their respective CIF Section Championship Game, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview these individual programs across California. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, eventually releasing our Preseason Power 25 rankings.

2024 Record (Playoff Finish): 13-16 (CIF-CCS D1 Playoffs: Won Game 1 - 2-1, Lost in Semi-Finals 4-3)
Key Players Lost:  Nate Wedderburn - CAL State East Bay, Jackson Everett - Oregon, Steph Russo - MPC College

BOTTOM LINE

With the loss of 3 key SRs. from a 2024 playoff team Monterey will need to lean on a strong returning group of position players with 6 pieces of the lineup back, but are going to need new faces to step up on the mound with only one arm returning that has significant varsity level pitching experience.

PREP BASEBALL CA STAFF’S TAKE

The Toreadore's offense will have to replace the production of departed Russo, but with several returners who hit over .300 in 2024 including Conner Rose who hit .375 with 7 extra base hits in a role spot in 2024 and now looks to take on a full time role for the 2025 campaign. Having talented '27 Gino Grammatico out for the season with an unfortunate injury does provide a bit of a challenge after he hit .311 in 90+ ABs as Freshman on varsity in 2024. If players like Matteo Marotta Gallegos, Patrick Adams and Johnny Money can take steps forward to their production as anticipated by Coach Grove their lineup has a chance to be pretty formidable for opponets to face. The mound though is going to be a bigger test with Luke Miramontes and his 41.2 IP with a 2.52 ERA from 2024, Money's 15.1 IP with a 3.65 ERA and '25 Dylan Cole who threw 10.1 IP with a 4.06 ERA having thrown double digit innings in 2024. Needing another strong season from Miramontes and additional production from Money/Cole will be paramount to their success on the mound, plus a few new faces to be productive pieces. If the lineup can hit to the level of their potential and the pitching staff comes together in a solid fashion don't be surprised if we see the Toreadore's playing in the playoffs again in 2025. - Steven Hardesty Assistant Scouting Director
