LATHROP, CALIF. - The Third Annual California State Games took place at beautiful Islanders Field in Lathrop where PBR California hosted over 70 of the top under and upperclassmen from around the state. While some were committed prospects, the bulk of the participants were uncommitted prospects hand picked for this exclusive event.

Click here to view Les Lukach 10 highlighted uncommitted players from the California State Games.

The three-day event featured a workout on Friday followed by games on Saturday and Sunday. With just about every facet of the game captured by the scouting staff, it becomes necessary to put pen to paper and write-up each respective player in a scouting report. Following the 7-8-9 positional scouting reports are those playing on the dirt.

infielders

Aeden Alexander, St. John Bosco (CA), 2022
Positional Profile: 2B/RHP
Body: 5-9, 170-pounds. Proportional stocky build with present strength and good grip strength.
Hit: RHH. Even stance, comfortable overall, hands loose, knees bent, crowds the plate, two-hand finish. Blast Motion scores 54/57/59. Showing average across the plate with no glaring holes, giving him hittability at the high school level and an easier to project swing at the next level.
Power: 95 max exit velocity
Arm: RH. INF - 80 mph. Arm plays well throughout the infield and could work with a switch to catcher. Consistent throws from a short arm swing.
Defense:  Positioned himself well, understands where he needs to be, stays low and tunnels well, limited laterally. Catching could be an option.
Run: 7.68 runner in the 60.

Dominic Alvarado, Redwood  (CA), 2024
Positional Profile: 3B/1B
Body: 5-11, 195-pounds. Sturdier upper half. Has added some athleticism especially to his lower half.
Hit: LHH. Sits in a slight crouch and is slightly open in his stance. Minimal lower body movement as the swing is hand dominant (up to 23.50 mph max hand speed in past events). Loads hands/bat into a low but tight elbow early connection position. Compact swing that works more steep-level. Showed a middle of the field approach in BP with some feel for the RC gap.
Power: 88 max exit velocity Rotational acceleration numbers are above average for his level at around 15gs and show decent power potential.
Arm: RH. INF - 71 mph. 4/5 accurate throws during defensive workout. All out of the same slot. Shorter arm action.
Defense:  Clean fundamentals and average glove skills. Lets the ball come to him. Slower in getting to release.

Body: 5-10, 175-pounds. Medium build with broader shoulders. Some present strength in the frame. Chance he grows into a corner infield build
Hit: SH. Similar setup from both the left and right side. Higher set hands with a mild leg lift trigger. Stays connected to his backside well.  Bat works back tight into his shoulder and into a solid early connection position. Compact swing that works steep-level (78%42.1% LD percentage). Uses the whole field throughout his BP round from both sides. Multiple barrels throughout the weekend. Went oppo 5-6 holes from the left side for a 1B and went right back up the middle for an LD single from the right side for a 1B.
Power: 88 max exit velocity Some present gap to gap power.
Arm: RH. INF - 81 mph. 5/5 accurate during defensive workout. Loose and quick arm. Gets to release relatively quick. Flashed ability to throw from different angles.

Isaiah Barrett, St. Mary's (Stockton) (CA), 2022
Positional Profile: 2B/OF
Body: 5-8, 165-pounds. Smaller athletic frame. Some present strength in the lower half.
Hit: RHH. Open stance with lower hanging hands and a higher elbow. Uses a leg kick trigger that gathers into the back knee and starts some internal rotation. Bat works back into a good early connection position and enters the zone on a more uphill path which creates some natural lift (53.8% flyball rate in BP). Used the whole field during BP session. Had two hits on the weekend. Dug an 86 mph low in FB out and drove it to left. Then in game two he drove a double into the RC gap that carried quite well.
Power: 95 max exit velocity
Arm: RH. INF - 85 mph. OF - 89 mph. Above average arm strength for his level at both positions. 4/6 accurate throws from the OF which included some on the fly and some one hops. Showed decent carry to the bag.

Riley Borges, Amador Valley (CA), 2024
Positional Profile: SS/2B
Body: 5-11, 135-pounds. Recent growth spurt, lanky throughout, plenty of room to fill out.
Hit: LHH. Even stance in the box, slightly open front foot, lift and go front foot to hitting position, classic left-handed swing, one-hand finish. Stroked a live game double.  Blast Motion scores 57/58/37. Shows quality ability to keep the bat in the zone and on plane along with staying aligned and connected. Building up bat speed and overall swing rotation needs improvement.
Power: 84 max exit velocity
Arm: RH. INF - 77 mph. Arm was adequate but more velocity and strength needed to stay on the left-side at the next level. Showed two different arm angles helping him get rid of the ball quickly when needed and exude more arm strength when needed.
Defense:  Got it done defensively both in the showcase and live setting format. Positioned himself well, soft hands, looked comfortable at second base.

Barrelled some balls during game action, specifically two long flyballs to center that died in the wind right in front of the warning track.
Power: 99 max exit velocity
Arm: RH. INF - 79 mph. Decent arm strength for a 1B at his level. Shorter arm action allows for quicker release. 4/5 accurate throws during defensive workout.
Defense:  Solid actions around the bag making several picks during defensive workout. Decent feet for size. Can field on the move.
Run: 8.08 runner in the 60.

Ben Giovannetti, Woodside (CA), 2022

Body: 5-11, 170-pounds. Athletic frame, some twitch, room for more. Versatile player with SS/2B/LF/CF ability.
Hit: RHH. Athletic stance, knee bend, slight leg kick to hitting position, two-hand finish. Sat on a fastball in a hitters count and did not miss, lining a double to left-center in his final at-bat.  Blast Motion scores 53/63/41. Plane and connection scores show above-average repeatable and consistent swings with line drive ability. Batting practice showed consistent contact and repeatable line drives to the left side. Opposite field capable but has to make that decision early. Firing hips early could result in more power.
Power: 97 max exit velocity
Arm: RH. INF - 85 mph. Capable arm from SS/2B/CF/LF. Short arm swing with quick release helps play up average velocity. Eliminating double-tap could help make his receive-to-release even faster.
Defense:  Capable utility player that will make the sure play. Transition from infield to outfield back to infield as a junior was a process but one that will pay off in the end and help in the recruiting process and at the next level.
Run: 6.78 runner in the 60.

Power: 94 max exit velocity
Arm: RH. INF - 80 mph. Continued to show potential plus-arm from the left side. Keeping his arm and glove close to his body and shortening his arm swing. Arm can stick on the left side at the next level.
