New Episode LIVE now! - At The Yard Podcast
RIPON, CALIF. - The CCB Scout Day brought nearly 40 players out to take part in the showcase where players were put through a standard pro-style workout that included the 60-yard sprint, round of batting practice, defensive workouts at respective positions, and concluded with bullpen sessions where the pitchers' stats were compiled.
The following 10 players quickly drew our attention. Listed alphabetically.
(Note: All showcase videos will be added to player profiles in the near future)
Aidan Alfers OF / RHP / Burlingame , CA / 20235-foot-11, 140-lbs, R/R - Showed two-way talent that should continue to blossom as he physically matures (has a frame that will fill out quite well). Flashed 83 mph arm from OF w/87 mph EV, averaged 77.5 mph with the FB (1972 avg spin, 5'10" avg extension), tight SL (avg 67.4 mph, avg 2101 spin), uses his athleticism well. |
Charlie Bates SS / RHP / Palo Alto , CA / 20245-foot-11, 150-lbs, L/R - One of youngest players in attendance but has a mature and confident presence. Mound talent shined brightly with outstanding delivery, finish and life to pitches, avg 2083 FB spin (T76) w/16.1 avg HM, dive bomb CHG, feel for the CB. Athletic runner, INF arm will have to improve, 83 mph max EV. |
Matteo Blandino 3B / Archbishop Mitty, CA / 20236-foot-2, 210-lbs, R/R - Physically imposing body type, with tools that fit at corner INF spots or LF. The bat has a chance to be impactful, with ample bat speed, loud contact, max 97 mph EV and many swings registering over 90 mph. The arm is playable at 3B (78 mph), took INF at SS showing hands and footwork that play. |
Antonio Carter OF / Bishop O'Dowd, CA / 20225-foot-11, 160-lbs, L/L - Electric performance given the nature of a straight showcase. In poor running conditions posted a 6.79 60, displayed playable arm strength for any OF spot at 80 mph, and put in an impressive round of BP, lashing balls to CF and RF, with loft power, plus bat speed and max EV of 91mph. |
Derek Gile OF / RHP / St. Francis, CA / 20236-foot-2, 170-lbs, R/R - First saw in June and in months that have passed he's more physical, tools more explosive and projectable. The 7.12 60 was good given the conditions, the 87 mph OF throw stood out and 89 max EV has him in good shape as a '23. Avg FB spin of 2340, tight CB w/2298 avg spin and has CHG feel. |
Holden Glavin LHP / Burlingame , CA / 20236-foot-3, 170-lbs - The case for a rangy, young LHP who doesn't yet have big raw stuff is well made in the history of scouting. Glavin fits the projectable LHP stereotype, w/FB T75, deception in quick pace delivery, big sweey CB w/depth (avg 2168 spin) and throws a 'dead fish' CHG w/feel. Plus feel of secondary offerings. |
Joshua Pashby C / RHP / St. Ignatius, CA / 20235-foot-11, 170-lbs, R/R - Projects to be a top catcher in the '23 class, very athletic, avg 1.94 on four POP throws, arm 76 mph (yes, was a little close to plate & not FULLY down in crouch), ran 7.21, max EV 87 in crisp loud BP round. FB T84 avg 2029 spin, CB 70.3 mph avg 2137 spin, low spin (avg 1307) CHG with late depth. |
Connor Prahm OF / 1B / St. Francis, CA / 20236-foot-2, 175-lbs, R/R - The body type and tools he displayed all suggest a very projectable and athletic 2023 grad. Over time the 7.35 60 time will go lower, the present 83 mph OF velo will go up over 85 and the 90 mph max EV is going to keep creeping upward into the mid-90s and beyond. Projects well as a corner OF. |
Fred Ramos SS / 2B / Arroyo, CA / 20215-foot-10, 185-lbs, L/R - Strong/compact build that is well-suited for playing around the bag, an uncommitted 2021 to look into. The raw footspeed is lacking, which could push him to 3B where his talented bat and hard-hitting ways fit well. The 79 mph arm is more than adequate. Gut feel is that he's going to hit in college. |
Paul Wheeler LHP / 1B / Bellarmine Prep, CA / 20245-foot-10, 140-lbs, L/L - Pitching tools look to project highest w/outstanding delivery, quick sling type AA, lots FB angle (avg 77 mph, 2047 spin), feel of fading CHG (67.6 mph, 1430 avg spin), CB early out of wind-up but depth in stretch. Deft glove skills, confident arm, hints of some future power w/84 mph max EV. |
