IRVINE, CALIF. - The Inaugural 14U/13U California Select got underway Thursday with some notable teams getting things started in Day One of the event operated by PBR Tournaments. On Saturday we were treated to having all teams playing and getting return looks on many players.

After getting a glimpse of many of the Day One, Day Two, and Day Three standouts, the final day provided us an opportunity to get one last look at some players as we head into the heart of the summer.

With a very good group of teams in action at the California Select, let’s dive into some of the top prospects.

2025 MIF Damien Valdez - Sandlot 805

Valdez finished a strong weekend with a 2-for-2 RBI day that saw him pound a pair doubles into the gaps. Mature approach at the plate where he takes what he gets and manages to get the barrel on the ball more often than not. Maintains barrel plane well and shows the ability to drop the head when needed.

2025 SS/OF Quentin Young - Sandlot 805

We broke down Young offensively in yesterday’s notebook but here he was on the mound on Sunday where the projection is off the charts. Long, lean and with some whippiness in the arm action, Young worked 82-84 mph with ease. His form and technique are still a bit raw, but there’s no denying the present and projectable velocity. Easy to look into the future with Young and see a very good overall talent.

2025 RHP Landon Gordon - Saddleback Cowboys

Gordon was very impressive in his 77 pitch complete game where he struck out four batters, walked none and scattered four hits. Showed an uncanny ability to command the curveball down in the zone inducing both whiff’s and weak contact. Flashed a back door cutter to left handed hitters that again produced a high whiff rate.

2025 RHP/INF Ethan Porter - Canes West

Porter put a bow on a very good weekend by pumping on the mound for the Canes West, throwing three scoreless innings in which he struck out four and walked three on fifty pitches. The arm strength is real and with his present size it’s easy to picture Porter in a few years with added velocity and improved command/mechanics. Worked both sides of the plate while occasionally elevating the fastball to induce whiffs.

2025 RHP Jake Milan - Playa Vista Orioles

Milan tossed five quality innings for the Orioles that saw him strikeout six, walk one, scatter four hits and allow one earned run on just 68 pitches. However, it was his ability to throw three pitches in any count for strikes that really stood out in his performance. Fastball, curveball, and changeup were all landing for strikes consistently with the fastball showing some running action back to the arm side.

2025 LHP/1B Brayden Charness - Legacy Baseball Group

Arguably the best stuff of the tournament belonged to Charness who dealt for three innings for Legacy Baseball Group. Simple, clean delivery that is repeatable with a present changeup that oozes projection. Mixed locations and eye levels very well and attacked hitters from the first pitch of his outing and used only 47 pitches.

2025 Coleman Rutkoff - SoCal Bombers

Rutkoff capped off a very good weekend with arguably his best game of the weekend going 3-for-3 with 3 RBI and 2 runs scored and a walk. His best hit was his last single that shot into the gap on a hit-and-run, scoring the runner all the way from first. He kept the hands inside and got the barrel to it in time to cause damage in a blow out win.

2026 Robbie O’Rourke - Legacy Baseball Group

O’Rourke showed a compact swing with quickness in the hands/barrel throughout the weekend and capped it off with a big performance on Sunday with another multi-hit day. Starts from an upright, simple setup before using some quickness in the hands to work the barrell through the zone.

2026 SS Adam Batmanian - 365 Shockers Elite

Batmanian showed to be a quality shortstop who can defend very well with range to both sides and body control. On Sunday he showed himself to be a very good pitcher that competes on every pitch with command of three pitches and an advanced feel for pitching. The consummate teammate, Batmanian was out of the dugout on every play cheering for his teammates and supporting them.
