LOS ANGELES, CALIF. - Our boots-on-the-ground scouting staff is constantly on the road evaluating players through the entire year. From the high school season into the  summer travel ball circuit through to fall and winter games, along with our own events, our aim is to be your number one source for amateur baseball scouting news in the state of California. Our multimedia platforms and events work in tandem ultimately creating the most powerful source of high school baseball promotion in California. 

Today we present the updated and expanded California Player Rankings for the Class of 2024. After a full spring and summer season we've expanded the list to 100 players for this update and will be adding more deserving players in following updates.

In this update we will take a closer look at the Top Five with three new entrants in the No. 2 through No. 5 spots while the top two players remain the same. In the coming days we’ll be diving a lot deeper in the coming days as we'll break down the rankings further as we roll out looks at commits by school, commits by position, biggest risers, and a deeper look at the Top Ten.

THE TOP FIVE

No. 1 - Bryce Rainer - Harvard Westlake HS (UCLA commit)

Unquestionably the top player in the nation with his combination of pitching and hitting ability that both show present and future projectable skills. On the mound he’s a low-90’s sinker, cutter pitcher with a swing-and-miss slider. At the plate he’s a left-handed hitting shortstop with quick hands that creates present lag in the zone with developing power. The polish on the mound and the ability with the bat make him the top player in his class in the nation.

No. 2 - Derek Curiel - Orange Lutheran HS

Unquestionably the top position player in his class, Curiel is a treat to watch hit with his advanced approach that looks to do damage the other way with the ability to put some juice into pulled balls. But the bat isn’t the only noticeable tool, Curiel’s speed on defense and ability to make plays in the gaps sets him apart from his peers. Takes fantastic routes that allow him to position himself perfectly for strong throws.

No. 3 - Dylan Fien - Great Oak HS - UCLA commit

The switch-hitting catcher has shown ample projectable power to all fields from both sides of the plate already and with a 6-foot-3, 195-pound frame it’s easy to forecast the future power. The defense is equally impressive with the catch/throw skills that make him the top catcher in his class and amongst the best nationally. 

No. 4 - Tatum Marsh - Valley Christian HS - Stanford commit

A two-way player with projection it’s not a stretch to suggest that his future is very bright on the mound where his mid-to-upper 80’s fastball pairs with a present sharp, biting slider and his above average feel for the changeup. At 6-foot-1, 170-pounds he has the type of frame that should easily add mass while he’s nowhere done growing vertically. Shows an advanced hit tool for his age/class with present and projectable power. 

No. 5 - TP Wentworth - Central Catholic HS 

At 6-foot-5, 195-pounds Wentworth is easy to spot on the field and when watching his skillset unfold it’s hard to take your eyes off him. A primary outfielder, he's fluid and athletic on the grass where his footwork and big, powerful arm stand out as much as his size. A left-handed hitter he looks “hitterish” in the box where he consistently gets the barrel on the ball with an all-fields approach with easy and developing power. A secondary pitcher, he features a mid-80’s fastball with a slider. 

A LOOK AT NUMBERS 6-10

No. 6 - Kasen Khansarinia - San Dimas HS - UCLA commit

Slick fielding shortstop with developing power and the ability to go gap-to-gap with consistent barrels from the right side. 

No. 7 - Matthew Champion - JSerra HS - LSU commit

Works mid-to-upper 80’s with the fastball and two average at-worst secondary offerings. Bat has shown more consistency of late. 

No. 8 - Austin Nye - Roseville HS

6-foot-2, 185 RHP that works consistently upper-80’s into the 90’s with fastball. Had a huge freshman season as a two-way varsity player.

No. 9 - Ben Reiland - Orange Lutheran HS

Polished hitter who offers defensive flexibility in the outfield and can play on the dirt. Sub 7.0 runner. 

No. 10 - Dylan Green - Woodcreek HS - Oregon Commit

Flat out hitter that can handle velocity and good pitching and can go line-to-line with consistent barrels.
