LOS ANGELES, CALIF. - As we recently released our updated Class of 2021 state rankings we thought we'd provide you a closer look at a few of these prospects. Rankings are never easy and we certainly know they are not an exact science. Much of rankings is predicated on what our team of scouts have seen, but given the national scope of the Prep Baseball Report network, we are more than able to access a library of over 100,00 players nationwide to compare apples-to-apples.

It's a given that California is either 1 or 1a in terms of talent in any given year. There isn't that much debate as to who the top players are because they've generally been identified at a much younger age. After all, the top players are easily identified. However, given the amount of games, innings, at-bats, pitches our team has seen over the last two-to-three years of watching this class, we feel confident knowing that nobody in the industry has seen more players in addition to those easily identified from California than our collective team.

And because of that level of confidence we feel our rankings best reflect the overall talent in the state.

Earlier we looked at left-handed pitchers, right-handed pitchers, catchers and first baseman. Now it's time to take a look at a few of the top ranked second basemen in the state for 2021 class. THE PLAYERS

#5 ROC RIGGIO - THOUSAND OAKS - OKLAHOMA STATE COMMIT

Riggio’s energy and athleticism help propel his abilities at the plate. Fearless actions offensively, confidence and a high baseball IQ make it easy to see why he is one of the top prospects and hitters in the 2021 class. Riggio’s overall body of work features plenty of upside coupled with an already advanced hit-tool should enable him to progress quickly at the next level.

#45 EDDIE SALDIVAR - SAN JOAQUIN MEMORIAL - LONG BEACH STATE COMMIT

Lean bodied left-handed hitting middle infielder that shows very good actions defensively to go with a patient and disciplined offensive approach. Shows feel for the barrel with a short, compact attack to the ball with a high finish. Saldivar’s defensive actions make for a strong profile at second base as he displays excellent footwork along with quick hands and clean exchanges. Smooth left-handed swing and strong defense at second should suit him well at Long Beach State.

#95 EDGAR ROSALES - LONG BEACH POLY - UNCOMMITTED

The uncommitted second baseman possesses a nice skill set, 6.98 laser-timed 60 yard-dash and a 90 mph exit velocity highlighted his PBR Preseason All-State showing. Swings with controlled aggression after a significant leg lift and stride, spraying the ball gap-to-gap. Defensively he really stood out with his silky actions and quick hands. Stays low and behind the ball with proper footwork and balance. Arm strength is clear (87 mph) with the ability to make throws from most angles. Overall resume shows division 1 potential and versatility needed at the next level.
