LOS ANGELES, CALIF. - As we recently released our updated Class of 2022 state rankings we thought we'd provide you a closer look at a few of these prospects. Rankings are never easy and we certainly know they are not an exact science. Much of rankings is predicated on what our team of scouts have seen, but given the national scope of the Prep Baseball Report network, we are more than able to access a library of over 100,00 players nationwide to compare apples-to-apples.

It's a given that California is either 1 or 1a in terms of talent in any given year. There isn't that much debate as to who the top players are because they've generally been identified at a much younger age. After all, the top players are easily identified. However, given the amount of games, innings, at-bats, pitches our team has seen over the last two-to-three years of watching this class, we feel confident knowing that nobody in the industry has seen more players in addition to those easily identified from California than our collective team.

And because of that level of confidence we feel our rankings best reflect the overall talent in the state.

Below is a look at a few of the top ranked right-handed pitchers in the state for 2022 class. You can read full available scouting reports and view available video by clicking on the the player name.

THE PLAYERS

#2 JADEN NOOT - SIERRA CANYON - OREGON COMMIT

The top ranked right-handed pitcher in the 2022 class has continued to boost his resume with impressive performances and a fastball that touches 93 mph. Fluid and consistent mechanics with low effort project well for him as a starter at the next level. Features a sharp curveball that projects as a swing and miss. Developing a change-up that shows plus potential at times. With a lean 6-foot frame, there is plenty of development and physical maturity gains ahead of him which bode well for the future Duck.

#3 MATTHEW PORCHAS - SANTA MARGARITA CATHOLIC - TEXAS COMMIT

Ideal pitchers build with present day stuff that mirrors top pitchers in any class, giving Porchas some of the best down the line projection of any player. Fastball touching 93 mph with carry through the zone and good downward action shows that there is more velocity to come. Lower half repeatability and body control allow him to stay consistent and command the zone with his three-pitch mix. Texas has a history of success with California pitchers with Porchas having the ability to join that exclusive list.

Raw pitching prospect that oozes projection with a funky leg lift and comfortable feel on the mound. Shows a quick and loose arm that produces a crisp fastball at 88-91 mph with downward plane and some carry through the zone. Features a change-up with parachute fade that has a chance to become a plus-pitch at the next level. Body stability and balance allow for his Marcus Stroman-esque leg lift pause and gives him something to work with in order to off-set hitters' timing. Pitching prospect to watch down the line.

Pace continues to develop in his 6-foot-4 205 pound frame showing signs of a future PAC-12 weekend starter. Mature feel for pitching as he shows command of his three-pitch mix and shows that he has an idea of how to attack hitters. His best weapon is his ability to cut, run and sink his fastball. Development of his secondary pitches will be crucial but both pitches currently show a good base to build upon. Pace’s development, projection and success will continue to elevate his game and player profile.

Projectable long and lanky frame with a max effort approach and bulldog attitude bodes well for the young right-hander. Features a fastball that touches 91 mph with legit carry through the zone, helping play up the pitch and garner swings and misses. Controlled head allows him to command his pitches and attack the zone. A lot to like here with starter and closer potential at the next level.
