STOCKTON, CA. - The 2019 MLB Draft was completed on June 5th and on June 9th we started to look toward the 2020 draft class at the Northern California ProCase. A select group of players were invited to participate in this exclusive event geared toward draft prospects and high level collegiate talents with future draft potential. Players were put through a pro-style workout with various stats/data recorded during the workouts which can be found HERE

RHP Isaac Ayon (Buchanan HS)

2020 RHP Isaac Ayon (Oregon commit) checked in at 6-4, 210 lbs showing off his XL frame with width in the shoulders, length in the limbs and good strength throughout currently; frame has continued to strengthen over the last year plus and firming up as he continues to mature and keep at his training and development.

Ayon was the first pitcher to get the ProCase started and showed the frame and stuff to be a workhorse, front-of-the-line starter utilizing three pitches with more upside still to come. The delivery has tempo and control as the strong and loose arm works cleanly to it's 3/4 release with some length out on the arm swing. It's an easy, athletic stride gaining ground down the hill after the high front knee and finishing over a firm and powerful front side; the loose hips and athletic ability in the frame allowed him to repeat his delivery while maintaining his driveline down the hill.

Ayon attacks with power stuff showing velocity that continues to work up. The FB sat 85-88 MPH (has since gotten up to 90-93 MPH at Area Code Game Tryouts) with still more velocity to come; could see him working 94-95 consistently in near future. The FB has heavy life down into the zone using the run of the pitch to work both sides of the plate. I like Ayon's aggressive, attacking attitude on the mound as he went right after the best hitters in the area with no fear of being hit hard. The SLD has continued to firm up being short and tight having late action occurring at the plate; the pitch has some blend from a true slider to more 12/5 shape with short, sweep through the zone with both iterations having swing and miss qualities. The CHG has also come along with his breaking ball to give him at least three average pitches as it starts looking like a 2-seam FB with late sink under barrels; he's continued to improve feel for the pitch and use it to keep hitters off balance.

Ayon's best stuff is still ahead of him and with a 6-4, 210 lb frame, the ceiling is high. Ayon had a strong season at Buchanan and will be counted on to be the staff ace for the 2020 season. If he continues the upward path that's he's been on it's just a matter of time until we're talking about him as one of the top pitchers in Northern California and possibly the state.
