ROSEVILLE, CA - Anticipation and expectations for this loaded event were quickly validated with impressive TrackMan and Blast Motion metrics. Many players saw their metrics make improvements while newcomers discovered them for the first time and the value that they hold.  However, the annual Preseason All-State event isn't complete without a detailed scouting report from the Prep Baseball Report scouting staff. In this addition we dive into Upperclass Pitchers.

Caden Thompson, Woodcreek, 2022
Body: 5-9, 170-pounds. Highwaisted, proportional build with strength showing and more on the way.
Delivery: Simple sidestep and lift delivery with hands staying at chest; tucks average front knee before getting lean and momentum down the hill. Front side was strong and firm allowing for some positive recoil and energy out front.
Arm Action: RH. 3/4, quick, easy, and repeatable. Arm strength is present.
FB: T87, 84-87 mph. Stuck to the glove-side and ability to go up in the zone when needing punchouts. Firm actions in the zone.
SL: 68-69 mph. Slurvy break, consistent and firm in actions. Occasional depth with Trackman showing similar Horizontal and Vertical action on pitch.
CH: 75-76 mph. Armside action and feel when needing it. Showed good arm speed and difference off FB help it.

Jaron Nevarez, San Ramon Valley, 2022
Body: 5-9, 175-pounds. Lean, strong and athletic compact frame. Width in shoulders and some present strength.
Delivery: Hands stay at chest with high front knee and slight rock into back hip. Front leg is firm in the ground and allows for extension down the hill. Repeatable actions.
Arm Action: LH. Compact 3/4. Quick arm with clean actions out of the glove. Repeated it well.
FB: T88, 83-88 mph. Controlled pitch in the zone to multiple locations including the ability to go up/down. Can manipulate velocity as needed to give hitters different looks.
CB: 70-72 mph. Small overhand breaker with short depth. Ability to spot in the zone and through the zone.
KN: 67-70 mph. Small dance in it, best one showed some depth in its break. Acted like a Change-Up.

Alec Aguayo, Martin Luther King , 2021
Body: 6-1, 180-pounds. Long frame, limited muscle showing, but projects space to keep adding to the frame.
Delivery: Simple side step with hands working down/up and utilized high front knee. Fluid and athletic delivery and ability to repeat it consistently.
Arm Action: RH. Compact 3/4, loose arm showed average depth out of the glove.
FB: T83.1, 80-82 mph. Worked the zone with multiple varieties showing ability to spot to both arm/glove side.
CB: 69-74 mph. Sharp, tight and feel for the pitch. Able to adjust depth when needed. Chance for pitch to be very good as he adds strength.
CH: 73-77 mph. Sold it well with fade arm-side, able to keep it for strikes and induce weak contact.

Will Pappas, De La Salle, 2021
Body: 6-1, 170-pounds. Long frame with high waist and squared shoulders. Strength there, but lots of space to keep adding.
Delivery: Wide side step with glove going down showing average front leg height. Momentum starts downhill early as keeps top half closer to rubber; jumps to extension but gets firm frontside to finish over.
Arm Action: RH. Compact M-3/4 with a flick towards 2nd base out of the glove. Loose arm gets speed out front.
FB: T86.3, 83-85 mph. Mainly gloveside with angle but showed the ability to go up in the zone and flashed armside tail.
CB: 66-68 mph. Slurvy bend getting more horizontal movement in break. Consistent spin (2099 Max/2021 Avg) and able to use to keep hitters off other pitches.
CH: 75-78 mph. Bottoms on the way to the plate showing ability to sink and run.

Sky Jones, Alpha Charter, 2021
Body: 6-1, 195-pounds. Physical body with good thick strength and rounded shoulders
Delivery: Compact delivery, tight and quick with up-tempo actions to bring momentum down the hill. Front leg is strong; times where hip can spin-off but when he's getting downhill it's powerful into the zone.
Arm Action: RH. Depth out of glove to 3/4. Very fast, live arm.
FB: T93.1, 89-91 mph. Effectively wild control. Could miss zone and come back next pitch and dot it down/away. Ability to change the location and get a swing and miss up.
SL: 76-81 mph. An above-average pitch that has a chance to be even better in near future. Tight and sharp with late horizontal break. Best ones were put away pitches for swing and miss.
CH: 85-87 mph. A hard bottom that was enough seperation from FB to dive under barrels. Utilized when he needed to switch sequences.

Stephen Kwak, Bellarmine College Prep, 2021
Body: 6-3, 205-pounds. Square frame, length throughout and strength present. Frame will continue to firm up as he matures.
Delivery: Slower tempo with lift and sit delivery; build momentum and carries arm downhill before exploding on hitters. Gets down the hill and front leg absorbs energy well.
Arm Action: RH. Compact, over the top; ball is hidden for a long time and easy through the slot and out front.
FB: T89.4, 85-89 mph. Firm in the zone and ability to spot down and away; times where he can cut it a bit. Also goes up in zone when needing it.
CB: 72-74 mph. High spin (2731 Max), 12/6 shape with depth into and out of zone. Feel and control of pitch.
SL: 68-69 mph. Similar profile to CB with more horizontal break at the end.
CH: 81 mph. Circle change with downer actions.

Ben Pernetti, Pleasant Grove, 2021
Delivery: Simple setup, shows hand turn with swinging front leg lift. Slight dip on front shoulder as hands/turn before working down the hill.
Arm Action: RH. Shallow out of the glove, consistent to mid/side-3/4; loose out front.
FB: T85, 83-84 mph. Heavier pitch with the ability to pound the zone. Bits of cut but consistent release height.
CB: 70-72 mph. Slurvy action, tight spin.
SL: 76-77 mph. Late sweep, tight spin. Able to keep consistent release as FB and induce weak contact.

Danny Peters, Palo Alto, 2022
Body: 6-5, 235-pounds. XL Frame with length and squared shoulders. Present strength and ability for frame to be workhorse build in near future.
Delivery: Controlled effort with hands working up/down on small side step. Easy back leg drive controlling body with shorter stride down the hill before cross-body finish. When he stuck his frontside he was able to transfer energy and work his best.
Arm Action: RH. Compact out of glove, slight stab to 2nd base; H-3/4 to Over the Top. Arm speed present and occurs late down hill.
FB: T86, 81-85 mph. Big inverted break (21.3" Max) and ability to be firm in the zone. Can get swing/miss in upper part of the zone.
CB: 68-74 mph. Overhand break with similar Horizontal/Vertical break showing ability to put it for strikes in the zone.

Cutter Coffey, Liberty, 2022
Body: 6-2, 193-pounds. Lean and athletic with longer limbs and a frame that still projects to have more room for gains.                                                                                                                 
Delivery: Hands high with high front leg; athletic moves and easy ability to control his body. Frontside is firm and strong allowing torso to get into strong position for arm to work out.
Arm Action: RH. Loose and whippy 3/4 arm. Rotates well with arm staying connected and releasing late and through slot.
FB: T90.4, 88-90 mph. Dominant in the zone and very firm. Armside run can use on both sides of the plate
CB: 81-83 mph. Slider shape with curveball depth; high-spin (2638 Max) with tight sharp actions.

Sebastian Edwards, Lincoln, 2022
Body: 6-4, 215-pounds. Large shoulders and lean present strength throughout; projection available as he continues to mature.
Delivery: Stretch only; hands at top of chest. Sinks early on the back leg right after higher front leg lift. When he got into the front leg and firmed up was able to get over it and produce better.
Arm Action: RH. Full arm, long swing fluid and easy through 3/4 slot. Good extension and release height that match large frame.
FB: T88, 84-87 mph. Around zone in first with better control in second. Pitch was firm mainly away/up from hitters. Better angle when firmer on front side.
CB: 64-70 mph. Smaller, later break at plate flashing some depth.
CUT: 73-75 mph. Short and small break; keeps it off barrels and good actions at the plate.

Trent Fowler, Salinas , 2021
Body: 6-5, 190-pounds. Long, lanky and lean strength; Plenty of space to add weight/girth.
Delivery: Wide side step to rock on backside with high front leg tuck. Slight bend of torso as he's moving down the hill. Frontside tended to open early and cause body to spin off; times where he gets crossbody on finish.
Arm Action: RH. Mid-3/4 release with length down out of glove. Generally loose arm; can keep working on repeatability.
FB: T80.8, 78-80 mph. Heavy pitch working off the plate both ways showing run and horizontal action.
SL: 62-66 mph. Spins tight; flashed a couple with much better horizontal action. Has a tendency to just spin.

Eli Rainey, Chico , 2021
Body: 6-4, 198-pounds. XL lanky frame with lean strength right now and projects to be a physique that translates for the next level.
Delivery: Tempo building motion with hands starting at the waist and rises up as he lifts high front side. Sit and drive once he gets to the top of his lift before gliding down the hill and getting into the front leg. Very athletic and repeatable delivery. Starter Projection.
Arm Action: RH. Loose and easy 3/4; hangs and stays with the body out of glove producing late speed through the slot and out front. Extension down the hill.
FB: T85.6, 84-85 mph. Good inverted break (18.7 Max/17.5 Avg) having ability to jump on hitters. Pounded down away and can get it up in the zone when needing.
SL: 77-80 mph. Feel of small and fluid break occurring at the plate. Put away pitch for him. Numbers won't jump off the page but stays on FB plane till late.
