San Diego Swing: 22 for 2022

Jack Shannon

ENCINITAS, CALIF. - With 2021 coming to a close and San Diego winter ball beginning to heat up, an early follow list is needed heading into the new year. The 2022 class features college commitments to power programs throughout the country, depth on the mound, a few uncommitted and a tool chest full of position player talent.

The past three MLB drafts have seen approximately $14,059,000 dished out to five San Diego section high school players. 2019 Eastlake 3B Keoni Cavaco 13th overall to Minnesota ($4,050,000) - 2020 Carlsbad SS Thomas Saggese 145th to Texas ($800,000) - 2021 Marcelo Mayer 4th to Boston ($6,664,000), Carson Williams 28th to Tampa Bay ($2,347,500) and Daniel McElveny 166th to Boston ($197,000).

Sustaining seven figure prospects year in and year out would be quite the feat and may not be seen in 2022 but the pool of players in the 2022 class remains talented with plenty of names to follow and add throughout the season.
