Our weekly Diamond Notes highlights players that were nominated by their coaches for SoCal Player of the Week award.
The following players had impressive performances during the week of March 11-March 17, and though not selected as Player of the Week, they earned special recognition. Players are listed in no particular order.
2019 SS Elijah Jackson - San Pasqual HS - Through 4 games last week, the Kansas St. Signee was 9-for-16 with 8 R, 4 RBI, and 9 SB.
2020 OF Caden Szuba - Temescal Canyon - The uncommitted junior went 3-for-6 on the week with 1 2B, 4BB, 2 RBIs, 7 SB and 2R. He also drove in the go ahead run with a Sac Fly against Centennial. For the season Szuba is hitting .446 with 8 2B, 8 BB, 10 RBIs, 15 R, and 22 SB.
2019 SS Andrew Villarreal - Temescal Canyon - An uncommitted senior, Villarreal was 5-for-10 with 2 2B, 3 RBIs, and 4 SB for the week. On the season he is hitting .333 6 RBIs, 6 R, and 7 SB.
2020 Jacob Mcclure - Canyon HS - Scored 2 R, hit 1 3B, and 1 2B.
20201 Andrew Gaspar - Canyon HS - Scored 2 R with 2 RBIs and 1 2B.
2019 3B Ethan Johannes - San Juan Hills HS - He went 6-for-11 with 1 2B, 4 BB, 4 R, and an OBP of .667.
2019 1B Shane Roberson - San Juan Hills- The senior went 6-for-11 with 3 RBIs, 4 HBP, 2 R, and an OBP of .625.
2020 Ethan Pope -San Juan Hills - The junior went 5.1 IP with only 3 hits and 4 Ks.
2019 Aaron Lamont - Santa Margarita HS - The Uncommitted senior went 9-for-15 with 5 R and safely reach base in 16 of 20 plate appearances for the week.
2019 Robert Chagolla RHP - La Sierra HS - The senior threw a 4 H, Complete Game, Shutout for a 2-0 win over Temescal Canyon in the At the Lake Tournament Semi-Final Game.
2022 Jesse Espinoza LHP/1B - La Sierra HS - The freshman went 8-for-11 with 3 R and 5 RBI in At the Lake Tournament.
2019 P Chase Hennessey - Marina HS - A Cypress College Commit, Hennessey went 6 IP with 5 Ks and 0 walks. At the plate as a pinch hitter, he had a grand slam to break a scoreless tie.
2019 Kolton Freeman - Laguna Beach HS - The senior went 6-for-11 with 5R,1 RBI, 1 2B, and 2 SB.
2020 Jeremy Hayes - Laguna Beach HS - The junior went 4-for-8 with 4R, 5RBI,1 2B, 1 3B, and a Grand slam.
2019 Ketch Gannon - Foothill HS - Gannon threw a CG to earn the win with just 4 H, 3 K's, 2 BB, and 0 ER. On the Season his ERA is 1.52. Ath the plate he had 14 AB, with .714 avg, and 10 H, 1 2B, 3 3B, 1 HR, 11 RBI, and 7 R.
2020 CF Ronnie Harris - Oceanside HS - An uncommitted junior and lead off hitter, he was 7-for-7 two games against Vista. On the week he was 8-for-11 with 2 SB and 3 R. He also hurled three innings of one run relief.
2020 INF/P Jonny Long - Orange HS - The junior went 12-for-15 with 7 2B, 1 3B, 2 HR including a grand slam, 14 RBIs, and 5 R. He started the Santa Ana Elks tournament 3-for-3 with 2 RBIs, and a 2B leaving him hitting 15-for-18 for the week. He's hitting .633 on the year.
2019 RHP Cade Nicol -West Ranch HS - The uncommitted senior threw a CG shutout against Golden Valley where he had 6K and threw just 79 pitched to earn the win.
2019 SS/RHP Gilbert Lopez - California HS - A Biola University signee, Lopez went 4-for-10 in the Anaheim Lions tournament with 1 2B, 4 BB, 4 SB, and scored 3 runs. On the mound, he threw a CG shutout with striking 11 Ks and only 1 H. The pitching performance improved his ERA to 1.56 and he has 40 Ks in 31 IP.
2019 SS Daniel Torrero - Bassett HS - He went 5-for-6 with 4 RBIs, 3 R, and 6 SB.
