LOS ANGELES, CALIF. - As the Southern Section playoffs are coming to an end this week, the San Diego Section Playoffs are just beginning and last week we saw several clutch final league series performances. Because of the amount of standouts around the region choosing one player for our Player of the Week honor was quite difficult.  

Congratulations are in order for Senior Brett Lawton out of La Jolla Country Day HS as he has been awarded the SoCal Player of the Week for the week for May 8st - May 14th, 2023.

Lawton, came up big in an important sweep of Bishop's HS that secured their Coastal League Title. At the plate last week, he was 8-for-10 with 5 doubles, 1 HR, scoring 5 runs and drove in 6. Then, in one of those three games, he got the start on the mound and pitched 6.1 innings of 1R ball and K'd 8. Lawton is a strong and physical two-way player that has performed consistently on both sides of the ball all spring. Offensively he is slashing .281/.396/.561 with 5 HRs and on the mound he has a 1.30 ERA in 59 innings and has K'd 70.
