New Episode LIVE now! -At The Yard Podcast

With the start of the season in the CIF-San Diego Section the 2020 high school baseball season is underway in Southern California and already we have been privy to several standout performances in the early goings of the season. Because of the amount of standout performances around the region we are going to try something different and award a Player of the Week honor to a player in each section. This means we’ll have a Player of the Week for the San Diego Section, the Southern Section, and the LA City Section if players from these sections are nominated.

Congratulations are in order for Jake Jackson, Jonathon Long, and Adam Christopher as they have been awarded the Player of the Week for their respective sections for the week of February 24th - March 1st.

CIF-San Diego Section

Freshman Jake Jackson of Madison High School had a big week. The 6-foot-4 outfielder and San Diego State commit went off at the plate for the Warhawks in their three game week going 6-for-10 with 3 doubles, 3 singles and 5 RBI while also scoring 3 runs as the Warhawks went 1-1-1 on the week. The big game came against Mater Dei Catholic as he went 4-for-5 with 5 RBI on the afternoon.

CIF-Southern Section

Senior infielder/pitcher Jonathon Long of Orange High School had a big week for the Panthers in the West Valley Tournament. The Long Beach State commit is known for his prowess at the plate and that was the case as we finished the week 7-for-11 with 2 doubles, 2 triples, 2 home runs, and 5 total RBI. Long also hopped on the mound and tossed a complete game scattering 5 hits, striking out 9 while walking none and allowing 3 runs. Long’s big game came against Eastside where he went 3-for-4 with 4 RBI, 3 runs scored, and a walk.

CIF-LA City Section

Senior left handed pitcher Ethan Glassman of El Camino Real had a big week for the Conquistadors on the mound against Narbonne. The southpaw tossed an 8 inning complete game shutout allowing only three hits with 5 strikeouts on only 72 pitches while facing the minimum 24 batters. Glassman walked one in his outing. Through two starts Glassman is sporting a 1.75 ERA while opponents are hitting .244 against him.

For their efforts last week Jake Jackson, Jonathan Long, and Ethan Glassman have been named the Prep Baseball Report SoCal Players of the Week for the week of February 24th - March 1st. We salute their accomplishments and wish them and their teams continued success both on-and-off the field.

Coaches, do you have a Player of the Week or top performer you'd like to nominate? Be sure to check your email in-box each Sunday for our request. Simply send weekly details/stats into our scouting staff by Monday and look for our Diamond Notes article that will highlight top performers who weren't selected for Player of the Week but are deserving of recognition.

The more information you give us, the better... name, position, grad year, B/T, height/weight, college commitment (if applicable), along with the weekly stats. Please also include anything notable, such as the caliber of competition the player faced, the game circumstances that were affected, etc.
