TOP INFIELDERS AT SOCAL UNDERCLASS TRIALS I

Nick Rocha SS / C / Eastlake , CA / 2021

Rocha had a consistent performance throughout the day at the Underclass Trials. After posting a 7.79 60, he showed very good arm strength from shortstop with online carrying throws. Shows good footwork that allow him to position himself ready to throw upon funneling the ball out front. Moves with fluidity and ease. Showing a relaxed, comfortable approach, Rocha shows the ability to drive balls the other way with some pop. Registered an exit velocity of 80. Body really projects for future growth.

Dylan Power 3B / OF / Ayala, CA / 2022

Like Rocha, Power was consistent his entire day at the showcase from running a 7.38 60 to taking one of the better rounds of BP to a strong showing on the defensive portion. Power shows excellent footwork that get him to the ball where he collects and fires. An adequate present arm has the chance to really grow into a asset. Power shows fast bat speed at the plate where he has a level swing plane that stays in the hitting zone. He shows a vey balanced stance and finish while doing a consistent job of keeping his head still. Frame projects as there is long, lean muscle strength throughout the body presently. Shows good bat-to-ball skills and consistently barreled pitches up. Young for his class.

Noah Rodriguez SS / C / La Mirada, CA / 2022

Rodriguez was the Jack-of-all-Trades guy as he seemingly participated at every position during the event. Rodriguez posted a 7.17 60 time before demonstrating his stuff at shortstop where his combination of footwork and body control were among the best at the event. He circles the ball and attacks it with intent before delivering online throws with accuracy showing good arm actions. Rodriguez shows some bat speed in a present line drive swing. Does a very good job of keeping barrel on plane.

Mikiah Negrete LHP / 1B / Orange Lutheran , CA / 2022

Negrete showed so well that he will likely make the list of top pitchers as well. Negrete showed well at 1B, handling all but one ball that hopped him in the heel of the glove. Otherwise everything was standard. The arm strength and whip stands out immediately. Negrete clocked a 76 mph across to third base. The swing is big time projectable as it shows a consistent path to the ball with power through it from a slightly open left-handed stance. The power is gap-to-gap presently, but can easily project to over-the-fence power.

Ty Borgogno SS / SS / Ayala, CA / 2022

Borgogno came out and ran a 7.06 60 to get things started at the Underclass Trials and carried that into the rest of his day. Borgogno showed rangy footwork with clean, accurate arm actions and adequate arm strength clocking 77 across the diamond. Being only a freshman the continued development bodes well for Borgogno physically. Using a wide base, Borgogno flashes a quick bat that results in good barrel contact presently. Shows strength at the plate - bat looks small in his hands - when he drives hips through the ball.

Zach Peters SS / RHP / Los Alamitos, CA / 2021

Peters showed very good feel for playing the middle infield positions. His feet are light and fluid and he quickly gets rid of the ball showing an understanding for the game. An average arm at 76 across the diamond, but it's an accurate one that has a chance for further development with physical maturity. The bat is raw, but the hands work. Shows a middle approach after a high left leg lift trigger. When the timing is right it results in gap-to-gap line drives.

Garrett Riley LHP / 1B / Mater Dei , CA / 2020

Another player who could make one of these lists at multiple positions. Riley shows easy power from the left side of the plate from a fluid one-piece swing. Riley does a very good job using his physicality not only in his swing but his defense. With strength throughout presently, definition will come with continued physical maturity. Riley is strong with good present line-drive power to the gaps and shows some pullside power. Shows soft hands and nimble feet around the bag at first to go with an above average arm. None of this may matter as his future could be on the mound.

Gabriel Miranda 1B / LHP / Orange Lutheran , CA / 2022

Big time two-way projection guy with present tools that catches your eye right away. Shows good footwork around the bag and feel for fielding the position - got handcuffed once - with clean exchanges and an adequately strong arm that was accurate. At the plate is where Miranda will have a chance to make a name for himself. A smooth left-handed swing that results in consistently squared up balls to the gaps with a slightly upward swing path. Has enough present strength for the gaps; body can easily handle the addition of mass.

Devin Martinez 3B / C / Citrus Valley, CA / 2021

Martinez quietly put on a very good overall performance at the Underclass Trials after running a 7.30 60 to open the event. Martinez's smooth footwork and acceleration through the ball pair nicely with his clean exchanges and his short, quick arm actions. Martinez was aggressive during his BP round driving balls to all parts of the field showing some pullside pop. Marinez posted an exit velo of 83 off a tee.

Noah Elorriaga 3B / 1B / Troy , CA / 2021

At 6-foot-2, 192-pounds, Elorriaga was one of the more developed players at the event but he showed that he can handle the size and potential for more mass. After running a 7.6 60, Elorriaga showed good defensive action at shortstop where his feet work and he has plenty of arm and athleticism. Really projects at third base. Shows front side tendencies at the plate but when the timing is right he has gap-to-gap line drive power presently. Keeps barrel on plane through hitting zone with a simple, balanced setup, a small toe-drag trigger and a knob leading the barrel swing.
