LOS ANGELES, CALIF.The tenth annual Prep Baseball Report Future Games will get underway on July 28th at LakePoint in Emerson, GA. The event attracts the top uncommitted players from across the country to compete in a round robin format event that kicks off with a showcase before the three days of games. In 2019 over 350 college coaches attended the event giving players visibility to coaches of all levels across the country.

Team California is prepared to head east to compete in the event for the third time coming off a 1-1-1 performance in 2020. With college coaches allowed to be out recruiting again, the 2021 version of the events stands to be the biggest and best Future Games yet.

Team California is once again bringing a loaded roster for college coaches to see, evaluate and recruit. Many of the players attending this year find themselves with multiple offers and ranked amongst the best in their class. Many of these same players have decided to hold off on a commitment in order to participate in this prestigious event in front of college coaches from around the country.

TEAM CALIFORNIA

Jack Haferkamp OF / Santa Fe Christian, CA / 2024

The 6-foot-3 170 pound right-handed hitting outfielder brings a toolsy skillset to the futures game roster. Capable of playing all three outfield spots thanks to laser time 6.8 60 yard dash and 90 mph outfield throwing velocity. The 2024 outfielder played the entire spring season on varsity at Santa Fe Christian and looks to be a few swing adjustments away from being one of the most sought after 2024 players in the San Diego section.

Gavin Vanderpool 1B / OF / San Marcos, CA / 2024

One of the top hitting 2024's in the state, Vanderpool has proven himself to be a quality hitter with a mature approach who can crush mistakes. He has a powerful stroke that results in consistent barrels at the plate. A very athletic player, Vanderpool can roam the outfield, play first base and hop on the bump and get outs.

Addison Klepsch SS / RHP / Poway, CA / 2024

Another premium defender up the middle from SoCal, Klepsch already holds interest from many Power 5 schools and appears to be among the group competing to be the next in line when it comes to top San Diego shortstops. Athletic and strong, Klepsch is a premium defender who can swing the bat at a high level. His overall game continues to improve and impress with each viewing.

Joshua Pashby C / RHP / St. Ignatius, CA / 2023

Being a sub 2.0 catcher with some power in the bat is a desirable position to be in. Being those things and having the ability to pump it into the upper-80's on the mound make Pashby a very desirable prospect. A high energy, intense and focused player, Pashby can impact the game in a number of ways be it behind the plate, on the mound, and especially at the plate where his present bat speed and power standout at first glance.

Bryce Dean SS / 2B / Santiago , CA / 2023

Another athletic player, Dean offers position versatility at shortstop/outfield, but he's also capable of running his fastball up to the upper-80's on the mound. With feel for three pitches and a projectable frame at 6-foot-2, 170-pounds, Dean also has a some developing power at the plate where he shows very good awareness and feel for the barrel with some decent pull side power.

Jackson Kemmerer OF / 2B / Santa Margarita Catholic, CA / 2023

Kemmerer is one of several Team California players that is absolutely going off this summer. Power and speed are the keys to his game as the bat has taken the next step with more consistently hard hit balls to gaps. A 6.74 runner with consistent mid-90's exit velocities, Kemmerer has shown the ability to play multiple outfield positions along with second base where his athleticism really plays up.

Fernando Palencia SS / RHP / Orange Lutheran , CA / 2024

It's unclear where Palencia projects the most, but one this is clear and that is that his future is bright regardless of position. With feel for three pitches, the 6-foot Palencia offers a quick, loose arm with repeatable mechanics. Attacks hitters with all of his pitches and doesn't give in to them in their counts.

Ross Clark RHP / OF / Orange Lutheran, CA / 2024

6-foot-5 righties are not uncommon, and Ross Clark is anything but common. At the Preseason All-State Clark dealt to the tune of four strikeouts and a groundout in his first inning of work. Touching 85 (in February) Clark worked the lower quardrants of the zone with perfection throwing his fastball black-to-black while dropping his curveball in for strikes consistently. There's been an uptick in velocity and development of a third pitch for Clark who will get the start on Saturday vs Pacific Northwest.

Anthony Perritano SS / 3B / Cathedral Catholic, CA / 2024

Physicality is the first thing you're struck with when first seeing Perritano, then you see him move around the infield and you can't help but be impressed with him. Perritano, who also plays soccer, oozes projection thanks in part to his athleticism on the infield, but also thanks to his power at the plate. While there are some things to clean up there, the raw power is very real and beginning to be a bit more consistent.

Andrew Johnson RHP / OF / Capistrano Valley Christian, CA / 2024

Johnson was a standout at the Preseason All-State where his three pitch mix stood out given his ability and willingness to throw them all in any count. The changeup has special written all over it with it’s late diving action into righties while his fastball reaches the mid-80’s and his curveball is a very good change of pace pitch. Johnson also plays on the infield and swings the bat well with a very good understanding of how to play third base, however the projection of his present stuff on the mound makes it almost impossible not to see him there in the future.

Tyler Patrick C / RHP / Clovis West, CA / 2024

Catcher or pitcher? Pitcher or catcher? That’s the question college recruiters and ultimately pro scouts are going to have to ask about Tyler Patrick who at 6-foot-2, 195-pounds is also the starting quarterback for Clovis West. With pop times that hover around the 2.00 mark and an arm that touches 75 mph on throw downs, Patrick is smooth, athletic, and comfortable behind the plate. On the mound he has a mid-80’s fastball but it’s his changeup at 73-74 mph that is the separator for him. The pitch has plus potential and his ability to throw it for strikes consistently plays off the fastball very well.

Derek Curiel OF / OF / Orange Lutheran , CA / 2024

An electric outfield that can hit and hit for power, Curiel is a known name nationally in recruiting circles thanks to a monster season in the Trinity League. He runs, he hits, he defends, and he does them all at a level that is fitting of the Power 5 interest he’s already getting. It’s uncommon to see a player so young so advanced in all facets of the game, but there is room for growth both physically and in terms of the growth that occurs from game reps.

MJ Sweeney 1B / RHP / St. Augustine, CA / 2023

A return participant for Team California, Sweeney has had a huge summer where his power is beginning to show itself more consistently and catching the attention of recruiters around the country. At 6-foot-7 240-pounds there’s plenty of power in the swing, but it’s the present bat speed that is notable with Sweeney as he’s able to get to pitches anywhere in the zone and has no trouble with velocity up in the zone.

Kehden Hettiger C / 3B / Sierra Canyon, CA / 2023

Coming off a breakout sophomore season, Hettiger is a versatile (C, 3B) player whose left-handed abilities have evaluators believing he’s one of the better pure hitters in his class. It’s a simple, aggressive approach that finds more barrels than not and with burgeoning power Hettiger is justifying the Power 5 level attention he’s receiving in recruiting. Behind the plate Hettiger is a sub-2.00 pop-time guy whose catch and throw skills are advanced.

Julian Areliz OF / RHP / Sierra Canyon, CA / 2024

Coming off a freshman season that saw him show a lot with the bat, Areliz is a rangy and athletic outfield that packs a punch at the plate with present bat speed and enough present power to catch your attention. Moves well in the outfield where the arm is strong and accurate. But it’s at the plate that he catches and keeps your attention with his present and projectable hit tool.

Will Gasparino OF / RHP / Harvard-Westlake, CA / 2023

Perhaps no player on Team California had the type of breakout season that Gasparino had for Harvard Westlake. The 6-foot-5 outfielder drips projection in every facet of his game whether it’s defense where he tracks balls with ease and has the speed to make difficult plays look routine, or at the plate where it’s easy to dream on his abilities at the plate that will one day include over-the-fence power consistently. For good measure he hopped on the bump this summer and flashed a mid-80’s fastball with a strong changeup.

Richard Tejeda III C / 1B / Orange Lutheran , CA / 2023

After playing for Team Select in the 2020 Future Games, Tejeda returns as part of Team California this year looking to make an impact with his bat as much as his glove. The uber talented defensive catcher has seen his bat take off a bit this summer adding to his projection as one of the better backstops in the state for his class. He’s physical and strong along with nimble and loose. Not may catchers in the state can do what he does and with the bat beginning to show more consistency, Tejeda is primed for a big Future Games.

Brock Thompson SS / 2B / Liberty , CA / 2024

Another two-time Team California participant, Thompson is a far cry from the player that roamed the infield at Lakepoint a year ago. Up close to 25 pounds, Thompson is beginning to fill out his frame with strength without hindering the sweet left-handed swing he has or the impeccable defense he plays. We saw at the Preseason All-State and in a spring viewing that the added strength/size are melding well with his abilities on the field to make a more complete player and one to watch next week.

Benjamin Reiland OF / SS / Orange Lutheran, CA / 2024

A standout on the summer circuit, Reiland earned time this past spring on varsity at Orange Lutheran where he served as a utility outfielder that would consistently put the ball in play at the plate. With added strength and size, Reilad is beginning to drive the ball hard to all fields while not sacrificing his speed and instincts. He can also play SS, but he's such a natural in the outfield where his instincts and athleticism really shine through.

Noah Rodriguez SS / OF / Orange Lutheran, CA / 2023

A versatile player who can roam the outfield or play on the dirt, Rodriguez is hitting his stride at the plate this summer where he’s more consistently getting the barrel on the ball and using the whole field. Defensively he’s very instinctive in the outfield where the footwork, routes, and arm all play now. Aggressively attacks balls and has accuracy on throws.

Tyler Stull SS / 2B / Chino Hills, CA / 2023

Stull impressed at a spring showcase then again during a high school season viewing with his consistent defense and the power in the bat. He’s a true shortstop who can stay there with enough arm strength for all throws. Has a very good plan at the plate that sees him get the barrel on the ball consistently and with present power behind it. Tapping into the power more consistently will put Stull on another level moving into his junior season.

Casey Borba 3B / 1B / Orange Lutheran, CA / 2023

Borba is having the type of summer you would’ve expected from a player who hit over .350 as a sophomore in the Trinity League. He’s showing more consistent power at the plate and doing so against quality pitching which has the attention of Power 5 coaches across the country. There’s little question he can stay at third base and with the hitting/power profile he has, there’s little question he’ll be there for a long time.

Zachary Brown RHP / 3B / Villa Park, CA / 2023

At the 2020 Future Games Brown showed flashes of what he could be on the mound with a desirable 6-foot-5 frame. He did the same at the plate where he launched BP bombs and put together some quality at-bats in-game. Fast forward to 2021 and Brown is back looking for another opportunity to show his wares both on the mound and at the plate. With an upper 80’s fastball, Brown has added to the quality of his secondary offerings making him a legitimate three-pitch guy. While it’s too early to tell if he’s going to hit or pitch exclusively, Brown will do both at the 2021 Future Games.
