Upperclass Preseason All-State Quick Hits

LINCOLN, CA - Anticipation and expectations for this loaded event were put on hold a week due to inclement weather but the skies cleared allowing for an exciting day of upperclass California baseball. The roster talent was elite, featuring 18 college commitments, 7 nationally ranked players and 29 state ranked players. Speed and power were on display early with multiple sub 7.0 60-yard dash runners and a batting practice session with a couple dozen PBR Mizuno baseballs soaring over the fence. 

Technology dominated the event with video production, live stream, TrackMan, Blast Motion, Twitter, Instagram and scout eyes working non-stop to showcase each player. Stay tuned for workout stats leaders, TrackMan data and Blast Motion metrics coming out later this week. With so much talent on display it was easy to find ten standout players to feature in this version of PBR - California Quick Hits. 

Cutter Coffey - The number 2 ranked player in the 2022 class lived up to the billing with an impressive showing at the plate and on the mound. Coffey continues to develop his overall game and has a legitimate chance to be an impact two-way player at the next level. Definitely a name to watch heading into the 2021 MLB Draft.

Justin Trimble - Arguably the MVP of the 2021 Preseason All-State, the 73rd ranked player dominated his batting practice showing with multiple home runs and showed that he isn’t just a five o’clock hitter when he belted an in game home run. 

Stephen Kwak - The unranked right-hander made a solid case to enter the top 200 with a solid showing on the mound and TrackMan analytics to back it up. Showed good feel for his four-pitch mix helping solidify his next level starting pitching ability. 

Daniel McElveny - Improved athleticism and defense makes you think he might have a chance to stick at short at the next level. Highlighted his showing with the defensive play of the day with a full extension diving play to his left.

Devon Walczykowski - Physicality was always there and now with improved fitness has made a noticeable change in his game. Power is the carry tool and improved athleticism puts him in the MLB Draft pop-up discussion. 

Sky Jones - The events hardest thrower made his presence felt with lights out stuff and an effectively wild fastball. Projectable TrackMan analytics along with his competitive attitude give him a high ceiling at the next level. 

Karson Bowen - The improved physical fitness was immediately noticeable with a consistent sub 2.0 pop-time and demonstrated his ability to consistently square up the ball. 

Eli Rainey - The lanky right-hander continues to improve his fastball velocity event-to-event and shows high ability to command his off-speed arsenal helping enable his next level starting pitcher projection.  

Jordan Lewis - The toolsy outfielder looks the part and played the part with a solid overall showcase showing. 6.82 60-yard dash, 89 mph arm velocity, 91 mph exit velocity, all-fields ability and a batting practice home run.
Evan Wallace - The smooth swinging outfielder showed natural feel at the plate and made it look easy. The bat projects well for high average and should do well against Big West pitching.
