West Coast Championships: Day 3 Notebook

PBR California Staff

IRVINE, CA. - Day Three of the PBR Tournament West Coast Championships was all about bracket play positioning and teams came with their best efforts. The games were a little closer, a little tighter, and definitely had more riding on them. With a full day of games and many teams back to their full rosters, our team of scouts had a great chance to see a few new players. Teams certainly were playing with one eye on the playoffs as they push towards the championship round.

Let’s take a closer look at some of the standout players from the day.

+ 2022 LHP Spencer Seid (Flintridge Prep HS) The Uncommitted 5-foot-10 sophomore took the mound in the first contest of the day on a hot, humid morning. Good looking prospect that shows clean arm action and a repeatable delivery. Fastball sat 79-81, topping 82. Should be a key cog in Flintridge Prep’s starting rotation.

+ 2022 MIF Xavier Franco (St. Augustine HS) Uncommitted. Showed athleticism and a rhythm to his game that stood out. Franco stands 5-foot-9, 155lbs with room to add weight and muscle. The run, arm and hit tools stood out today. He displays smooth defensive actions and squared this one up for a hard hit single.

+ 2021 RHP Matt Sigafoos (Damonte Ranch HS, NV) Uncommitted. This is my first viewing, and a pleasant surprise. Sigafoos checks in a 6-foot-1, 175lbs. Shows athleticism, and the ability to repeat his delivery out of a high ¾ slot. Posted a solid performance with a three pitch mix, worked quickly and pounded the zone all game. The fastball sat 80-82 with some ride through the zone and featured an above average slider.

+ 2019 OF Ian Pascual (Clayton Valley HS) Uncommitted. The soon-to-be college freshman brought a ton of energy to the park today. Pascual showed his ability to track balls down at the end of his range. Made two outstanding diving catches seen here. He can really run and took three quality at-bats.

+ 2021 1B Ryan Gallagher (Granite Bay HS) Uncommitted. 6-foot-1, 185lbs. lean, athletic frame with ample room to add muscle. I was impressed with Gallagher’s overall approach and intent at the plate. He didn’t get the results he wanted, however he took mature at-bats and took what they gave him. It’s an aesthetic natural left handed swing that will have high doubles totals until his body matures.

+ 2022 INF Cole Fellows (Clovis North HS) The uncommitted sophomore checks in at 6-foot-2, 180lbs. projectable frame with high waist and long arms and legs. Starts with an open, narrow stance. Bat speed is above average and short to the ball with a high finish. Fellows shows the ability to create leverage and drive the ball. He squared this one up in the gap that short-hopped the fence for a stand up triple.

+ 2022 OF/RHP Dillon Pearson (San Marcos HS) Uncommitted. 6-feet, 170lbs. with long arms, legs and plenty of room to fill out.  Pearson starts with a neutral setup in the box, uses a minimal hand trigger and mild leg kick timing mechanism. For having long arms, his swing is short to the ball. Pearson squared the ball up a couple times and had three quality at-bats on the afternoon.

+ 2021 RHP Daniel Barrera (Damien HS) The USC commit checks in at 6-feet, 190lbs. medium/large frame. Features a three-pitch mix with a fastball at 78-82, a curveball, and a developing change.  His delivery is deliberate and repeatable, however there are some mechanical things to clean up. Barrera flies open at times and lands on his heal causing his offerings to get away from him glove side.

+ 2022 MIF Jacob Reimer (Yucaipa HS) Uncommitted.  Reimer is the #18 ranked player in the 2022 class and rising. I always walk away impressed with Reimer’s ability to lock in pitch-to-pitch whether it be on offense or defense.  He shows a higher level of competitiveness over his peers that is tangible and refreshing to watch. Reimer squares the ball up consistently and with authority.

+ 2021 1B Kaden Moeller (Martin Luther King HS) A recent Long Beach State commit, the 6-foot, 185lbs junior has some physicality to his frame and room to put on good muscle. The left handed swing is pure, consistent and violent. Maintains the barrel on plane through the hitting zone consistently often squaring it up. Demonstrates a mature approach, shows excellent plate coverage and an understanding of his pitch he wants to hit.

+ 2022 OF Chase Antillon (Yucaipa HS) Uncommitted. Antillon is a must watch, he plays with an enthusiasm and energy that is infectious. Has a compact strength to his game that is impressive. He plays the game the right way and it rubs off on his team mates.  Shows the ability to square the ball up consistently and with authority. Took three quality at-bats seen here.

+ 2021 OF Matt Clark (Damien HS) The Arizona recruit is the #51 ranked player in the 2021 class and quickly rising for good reason. The 6-foot-1, 175lbs junior has a solid, athletic compact, muscular build, but not bulky. Shows a sturdy lower half and has room for a little more physical projection.  Clark is a natural patient hitter that will have a high average and doubles totals. Plays the game the right way and is fun to watch. He will be one of the leaders as a junior for a talented Damien roster.

+ 2022 RHP Isaac Zaldivar (Vanden HS) 5-foot-7, 145-pounds, medium frame wider chest and physical projection. His fastball had some life, little run and room for improvement. His fastball sat from 79-82 Mph and topped out at 83 MPH. Curveball has loose movement, good spin and effective when controlled can be a strikeout pitch. Curveball sat from 65-67 MPH. He didn’t utilize his changeup much but was 72-73 MPH. Had a very good day going CG striking out 9, walking 2 and giving up three hits. IS a projectable pitcher who is just hitting his stride.

+ 2020 SS Darius Price (Rancho Cucamonga) 5-foot-9, 185-pounds, medium frame, present strength and a thick lower half. Flashes gap to gap approach at the plate. Made consistent loud contact on Saturday. Flashes some pop as he has good power for a player his size. Went one-for-two with an RBI and a single, also flew out to deep center just missing both pitches. He has soft hands at short and smooth actions that are present. Has a strong arm and can make all the throws from all angles.

+ 2020 OF Brent Cota (Alta Loma) 6-foot, 175-pounds Medium/large frame with present wiry strength and athletic young body. Flashed a gap approach as he hit the ball to all fields. Made consistent contact using the whole field and showing consistent at the plate. Recorded two hits - one double and one single. Double he really flashed some pop going to the pull side of left-center and then went through the 5-6 hole in his second at-bat. Showed some athleticism in the outfield with loose hips and can make the plays in the gaps.

+2021 INF Jaycob Agredano (Ayala HS) 6-foot-1, 175-pounds, medium frame with some wiry strength and is athletic and young. Flashed a gap approach and looks like he can hit the ball to all fields. In two at bats he made consistent loud contact. Really stood out because he took a shot of the chest recovered and made the throw. Shows some athleticism at 3B with good lateral movement. Is a guy with physical projection as he continues to add strength.

+ 2021 OF/RHP Javier Zarabia (Kaiser HS)5-foot-11, 150-pounds. Medium frame, young, athletic with wiry strength. Showed a gap approach using the whole field with consistent contact. In two of his three at bats he made loud contact and had two quality at-bats. He recorded one double and 2 RBIs, taking the ball down the left field line. Showed an average arm and ability to make plays in the outfield.

+ 2021 INF/C/RHP David Loera (Citrus Hill) 6-foot 185-pounds. Medium-large frame, young body with present strength. Had a compact line drive approach at the plate and used the whole field. Had two quality at-bats one ended in a base knock through the 5-6 hole. He showed good athleticism for a player his size. Has physical projection as he continues to add strength.
