VENTURA, CALIF. - As the entirety of the of the California High School sections are underway with regular season games Prep Baseball California will be highlighting weekly games of the week with some of the best matchups from all over the Golden State.

Game Preview:  

Arcadia is off to an electric start as a squad they have dominated the competition they have faced for 13 games with 141 runs scored as a team while allowing just 25 runs against them as a pitching staff. They have twirled three shutouts while posting four other games where they allowed just one run. The Apaches offense has scored over 10+ runs on five separate occasions including 20 run and 31 run games. Six of the nine starters for the Apaches are hitting over .400 half way into the season with 30 doubles as a team, five triples and five homers. Brereton and Vogel front the lineup with averages of .474 and .457 respectively. On the mound Catano and Swilling have each posted 20 or more innings while have ERAs under 1.40 with 45 combined strikeouts between the two. The Lancers are fresh off a dominant week out in Las Vegas where they won the Bishop Gorman Invitational tournament and Hartshorn set the school record for career home runs. In 11 games so far this spring OLU has plated 77 runs while allowing just 23 runs facing some high level competition both in state and out of state. Their staff has posted four shutouts with two additional games of one run allowed. Hartshorn leads the squad with a .500 average on the spring while Hanoian, Murrietta, Friedberg and Haros are all hitting over .300 so far. The lineup has posted 10 doubles, three triples and 10 homers with five of those coming from Hartshorn. Morse, Peterson, Principe and Miller have posted the four highest inning totals with each having a current ERA under 2.00 and Miller sitting at .66.

Game Preview:  

St. Joseph is following up a 2024 CIF-Central Section D2 semifinal run with a dominant start to their 2025 campaign. They have used a decently balanced attack over their first 11 games with 50 runs scored and 37 runs allowed. Offensively, the Knights are lead by Furness and Bluem who are both hitting over .300 currently with Furness having picked up two doubles and homer while Bluem has added two doubles. Rodriguez leads the team with two homers. Majewski has been the primary weapon on the mound for the Knights with 20 IP, 26 Ks, and a 2.17 ERA in that span while Peinado and Rodriguez have added high quality innings with ERAs at 1.56 and 2.50 respectively. Their staff as a whole is averaging over 1K per inning pitched. Cabrillo jumped out to a 5-0 start on the strength of an offense that has plated 48 runs in their seven games with 35 runs allowed. Gregory is off to a .368 start with two doubles, one triple, one homer and leading the team with nine runs scored. Vorce is off to a .421 start while Hernandez is at a .333 average with one double. Lopez has an ERA at .70 over 10 IP with a eight Ks so far while Kiesling has toed the rubber for 12.1 innings with two wins and a complete game. This will be a key CCAA-Mountain League matchup between the two-time defending champion Conquistadores and the Knights who are looking to unseat them from that spot.

Game Preview:  

Pittsburg is off to an undefeated start to their 2025 campaign having plated 63 runs over those nine games while allowing just 10 runs total on the spring. They have twirled four shutouts in nine games while allowing over two runs just one time. Robinson and Simonton are off to over .300 average starts with two doubles for Robinson while Simonton has two doubles and two triples. Thompson leads the team with 10 RBIs while Simonton has scored 11 runs. Deluna has punched out 33 hitters in 23 innings while Toomer has posted 25 Ks in 16.1 innings combining for seven of the teams nine wins on the mound while posting ERAs of .91 and 2.14. Campolindo is off to a stellar start on the spring standing at 6-1 with 37 runs scored in those seven games while having allowed just 22 runs. They've posted a shutout, a one run allowed and two run allowed game in their seven games on the year. Rutzen and Caruso have been the Cougars workhorses so far with 17 and 17.1 innings pitched respectively on the spring. Rutzen has posted a .82 ERA while Caruso has thrown to the tune of a 1.62 ERA. Myers leads the team with a .500 average over the first seven games while Robinson, Policho, Clayton, and Martinez are all off to over .300 starts while the team has posted 20 doubles, two triples and a homer on the season. Myers tops the doubles list with five, Robinson has driven in a team high seven runs while also tying for the top spot with five runs scored.

Game Preview:  

This is the second game of the week apperance for both Patrick Henry and Granite Hills on the 2025 spring and with the talent on each squad don't be surprised if we see them back here again. Patrick Henry jumped out to a 4-0 start, but have dropped two of their last three games, but face off with Eastlake prior to the match while Granite Hills enters the matchup undefeated fresh off a three win week which a trio of dominant performances, but squares off with Point Loma to open their week.. Patrick Henry has gotten to 5-2 on the strength of a dominant pitching staff that is allowing just over two runs per game for at total of 17 runs in seven games. Their offense has been solid plating 40 runs for an average just under six runs per game. Granite Hills has scored 30 runs in their five games for an average of six per game while allowing just 10 runs for an average of two runs per game. Both teams appear evenly balanced on paper between the stats and talent littered over each roster and will be playing their second game of the week meaning each will likely have used their ace arms on Monday in a tournament setting. Brenden Lewis has been the power behind the Granite Hills early season success while Ian Brooke has started the season on a torrid pace for the Patriots offense handling these two impact bats will be a focal point for each team.
