LOS ANGELES, CALIF. - We have wrapped up the fall season of showcases, tournaments and high school fall/winter baseball is in full swing in portion of the state of California eyes are beginning to shift towards the rapidly approaching 2025 CIF baseball season. The fall circuit presented our staff with numerous opportunities to get live looks, track performance levels, and observe the continued improvement/development of players in the class of 2027. With the visibility afforded to our staff to evaluate players over the last couple of months, Prep Baseball California presents our updated Class of 2027 Player Rankings.
With the amount of exposure afforded to our staff in the summer time to see more players within the 2027 class we have made an expansion of 25 players to our rankings that now stands at 175 ranked players. Included in that expansion we see a bit of change within the Top 10 with a couple players making moves up the board, but our number one spot remains the same.
Beyond the Top 10 we see several players continue to rise up the rankings board and numerous players coming into the rankings for the first time after this fall as they head into their sophomore year of High School baseball. All players included within this latest update are looking to carry their progress from the 2024 fall circuit into the upcoming 2025 CIF high school season at the start of the new year and hope to help the varsity programs at their schools to on field success.
This class is continues to garner more attention from college coaches as they advance towards the recruiting process after the rule change in April of 2023 to halt early communication with players prior to August 1st of the summer headed into their junior season of high school. As a result of the new rule, we have a deep stable of talented uncommitted players who are going to be looking to catch the eyes of college coaches in the coming 7.5 months to be on the radar for their turn on Aug. 1st 2025 to begin the recruiting process.
Below you'll find the Top 10, Top 10 Uncommitted Players, along with more in-depth reviews on our Top Risers and Top Newcomers for the 2027 class.

CLASS OF 2027 RANKINGS: RISERS
TOP-10 RISERS:
+ Logan Schmidt - LHP/1B - Ganesha - Uncommitted (Now: 2 Previous: 4)
Schmidt makes a two spot jump up the board into the number 2 spot and is starting to look like a real challenger to the number one spot potentially. The rise of Schmidt comes from a realistic 2-way potential profile as he shows high upside ability on each side of the game, but the upward trend he is showing on the mound is electric. During the fall Schmidt ran his FB up to the 95-96 MPH range on several occasions including a loud 9K performance in tournament play while still showing impressive impact at the plate.+ Lukas Waite - RHP/OF - St. Augustine - Uncommitted (Now: 5 Previous: 9)
Waite is another realistic 2-way potential player who shows intriguing tools on each side of the game. An outlier athlete for his age, Waite attended the SoCal Top Prospect Underclass this fall at University of San Diego and posted impressive athletic metrics including a 6.6 60 time and 33.3" vertical jump. He then went on to produce a loud performance in the baseball workout with 96.3 MPH max EV, 92 MPH OF velo and 79.4 MPH bat speed. But, the work he did on the mound took the show where he punched out 5-of-6 hitters sitting 89-92 MPH with his FB peaking at 92.4, and pairing it with a 78-80 MPH SLD averaging nearly 2600 RPMs of spin. Waite also reached 94 MPH this fall with his FB during another event and the San Diego based product jumps 4 spots into the Top 5.TOP-1OO RISERS (11-100):
+ Jacob Melendez - LHP/OF - Uncommitted (Now: 16 Previous: 19)
The Team California Junior Future Games alum from 2023 shows an intriguing 2-way profile with plenty of potential both as southpaw on the mound, but also as a LH hitter with impact at the plate. A strong fall showing that included a solid showing at the SoCal Top Prospects Underclass event both on the mound and at the plate, he continues to trend upward as one of the top players not only in Southern California, but the state and slides up our board 3 more spots now.
+ Aidan Kent - RHP - JSerra - Uncommitted (Now: 20 Previous: 23)
The talented righthander from the powerhouse JSerra program has produced plenty of positive reports coming in with regards to the way he is progressing this fall. Poised to potentially compete for a prominent role on the varsity rotation at JSerra, Kent makes a move up 4 spots on our board and now sits inside the Top 20 players in the class.
+ Jack Leeper - SS/OF - St. Francis - Uncommitted (Now: 23 Previous: 107)
Leeper is an uber-athletic young product out of St. Francis in NorCal and makes the biggest jump of any player this fall rising up 84 spots on the board. With an up the middle defensive profile, top end athleticism including a 6.7 60 time, and a hit tool that is presently very loud. Leeper tore he cover off the ball this fall showing top of the order potential as a hitter to go with his premium defensive profile that should give him every chance to compete for a prominent role at St. Francis as the compete in the rugged WCAL in NorCal. Now amongst the Top 25 players in the class, Leeper will look to make future moves up our board.
+ Kaden Paris - OF - Freedom - Uncommitted (Now: 42 Previous: 91)
Paris is an athletically built OF from NorCal who possess emerging athleticism, ease of operation to his swing, and actions in the OF, developing game feel and big league bloodlines. Attending a NorCal based scout day, he showed off the development Paris has made since the NorCal Preseason All State. Paris is likely to be a prominent piece of the Freedom High lineup next spring bringing him up 49 spots on our board.
+ Bryce Farris - 3B - Whitney - Uncommitted (Now: 46 Previous: 70)
Farris is on the rise in NorCal as he figures to be a key performer for a talented Whitney program come the spring time, but this fall he put together a loud performance that shows the depth of his offensive profile. Showing a developing hit tool with emerging power that is beginning to play more consistently in game, there is plenty of reasons to project a long term corner INF defender with RHH power bat in the future for Farris. After closing out a strong 2024 calendar year, the NorCal product moves up 24 spots on our board.
+ Tyler Vladic - OF - Cypress - Uncommitted (Now: 53 Previous: 64)
Vladic has continued to make moves up our board as the talented LH hitter who impressed at the SoCal Preseason All State Underclass with his potential at the plate has continued to confirm that potential with a consistent level of performance in game play. Vladic is a 2 sport athlete who also plays football during the fall at Cypress, but did get in some baseball activity showing well with his ability to hit and power potential that he is starting to tap into in games.
+ Carson Richter - OF - Newbury Park - Uncommitted (Now: 59 Previous: 67)
Richter has steadily moved up our board over the course of the 2024 calendar year, first debuting after a good showing in the early part of the year. He then went on to have a strong summer showing the ability to hit at a high level, then this fall he has showed impressive development in his physical frame. Richter stands at 6'4 195 lbs., but maintains solid athleticism that profiles as a potential RF defender who has a strong RH hitting profile and is starting to tap into his power in games. Richter is in the mix for a prominent role in the Newbury Park Panthers lineup for the 2025 season and is a name to pay close attention to in the 805 area code.
+ Trevor Rivas - SS/2B - Maranatha - Uncommitted (Now: 62 Previous: 108)
Rivas joined our board after a strong showing in the summer circuit, but then he upped the ante this fall on the Prep Baseball CA stage. In an event filled with plenty of talented rising '27s/'28s at University of San Diego, Rivas may have shown the best combination of defensive tools, offensive ability and game feel at the SoCal Top Prospects Underclass event. Rivas has poised himself to compete for a potential varsity role at Maranatha this spring and moves from the cusp of the Top 100 to firmly inside our board.
+ Gavin Williams - C/RHP/SS - Garces Memorial - Uncommittted (Now: 64 Previous: 84)
Williams was another summer standout who showed well enough to join our board. Williams has consistently had strong reports coming in about his present ability, but also his upside on the diamond and now finds himself moving 20 more spots up our board and headed to the Central CA Preseason All State event to open the 2025 calendar year for this talented Bakersfield product.
+ Michael Aleman - RHP/INF - Etiwanda - Uncommitted (Now: 73 Previous: 98)
Aleman was the opening day starter for the Etiwanda Eagles at the Prep Baseball CA Spring Invitational and showed his present pitchability with a strong outing versus Orange Lutheran. But, what the righthander showed during his outing at the SoCal Top Prospects Underclass on the mound with velocity that has now ticked up to 84-86 MPH, while adding life to his offspeed offerings. Aleman has also flashed interesting potential as a RHH INF who shows a solid present hit tool that helps him move 25 spots up our board.
+ Owen Gaida - 3B/RHP - Newbury Park - Uncommitted (Now: 77 Previous: 83)
Gaida is another interesting 2-way product in our 2027 class who flashes future potential both for what he can do on the mound and as a RHH hitting INF. This fall the offensive ability for Gaida showed at a very high level as he consistently hit and showed some emerging impact in his profile across the Scout ball and tournament scene. A solid showing over the Thanksgiving weekend, where he looked to be in competition for a prominent varsity role for the Panthers in the spring, brings Gaida up our board 6 more spots.
+ Elijah Sim - SS/2B - Notre Dame - Uncommitted (Now: 78 Previous: 94)
Notre Dame High is one of the top programs in the Southern California region and has been somewhat of a pitching factory with the high quality arms they have produced year in and year out. However, the emerging Sim is one of several intriguing offensive pieces they have competing for varsity roles in the spring. Sim is a talented defender who has athletic actions, smooth hands, rhythm in his feet, and plenty of potential to be a SS long term, but the growth he has shown offensively this fall is what helps bring his profile up 16 spots on our board.
+ Colton Hadfield - SS/RHP - Valley Christian - Uncommitted (Now: 81 Previous: 96)
Hadfield has brought in several very impressive reports out of NorCal as he looks to be a potential prominent piece of the Valley Christian program as they head into the rugged WCAL play in spring 2025. Hadfield flashes potential on both sides of the game, but with a FB that is sitting in the high 80's, and recently has started to tick up into the 90-91 MPH range at times, helps to move him 15 spots up our board.
+ Ryder Fredriksen - INF - JSerra - Uncommitted (Now: 82 Previous: 89)
Fredriksen caught the eye of Shooter Hunt during the spring trip he made to Socal as the VP of Scouting for Prep Baseball came away impressed with the offensive upside for the RHH out of JSerra. This fall the reports coming into our staff on Fredriksen have been very positive, and if he can earn significant playing time at JSerra come the spring time, don't be surprised if the seven spot jump he makes this time looks small compared to where he could find himself on our board in the future.
+ Brayden Goldstein - OF/INF - Sierra Canyon - Uncommitted (Now: 85 Previous: 122)
Goldstein jumped into the backside of our rankings with a strong showing on the summer circuit, but at the time it was a brief look with more intriguing potential than present performance. This fall, Goldstein helped show that his potential is still very intriguing, but added quality performance with his showing at the VTA County Uncommitted Game which was filled with older competition, but the rising Soph. at Sierra Canyon put together one of the stronger showings. In a program loaded with young talent, the reports coming in on Goldstein is that he is right there with the best of the best players at Sierra Canyon and could earn his way into a potential varsity role which, with some success in the talented Mission Leauge come the spring time, should continue to raise his profile up our board as he joins the Top 100 in this update.
+ Chase Renzo - RHP/INF - Chaminade - Uncommitted (Now: 100 Previous: 109)
Our final member of the Top 100, Renzo makes a nine spot jump to debut inside the Top 100 for the first time. Like many on the board, he exhibits two-way potential and this fall he flashed his ability on each side of the game. A RHH who shows a 2B/3B defensive profile with a sound hit tool, he has hit well throughout the fall, he's also shown the ability to attack the strike zone and consistently get outs from a mid 80's FB that at times will reach the upper 80's with reports of some workout 90 MPH velocity coming in. Renzo will compete for a prominent role on the varsity level at Chaminade this spring, whether that is on the mound or in the lineup is to be determined, but should he produce some quality success this spring, Renzo could move up the board again.
Top Risers Outside the Top 100 (101-175):
+ Jayden Serna - C - Norco - Uncommitted (Now: 102 Previous: 123)
Serna made his debut on our board after the summer with a strong showing at the IE Summer ID and then on the various summer platforms. This fall he makes a push up our board after another solid showing, this time at the SoCal Top Prospects Underclass event where the LHH catcher swung the bat very well during batting practice and in game while continuing to show his potential to stick behind the plate as a catcher long term. Serna hit well across a variety of other fall platforms and has placed himself in a position to compete for a prominent role on the varsity level at Norco.
+ Che Thomas - LHP/OF - Loyola - Uncommitted (Now: 120 Previous: 144)
Thomas flashed his potential during the opening weekend of the scout baseball scene in SoCal with his intriguing profile as a southpaw on the mound who sits 83-85 MPH topping at 86 presently. But, he adds to that a sound LHH OF profile with athleticism and a wiry present build that has room to fill with strength. While his initial viewing at scout ball was a little rough, Thomas went on to perform very well across a variety of other platforms in the fall and could earn a spot in either the varsity pitching staff or lineup for Loyola come the spring to continue his rise up the board.
+ Nolan Riesenberg - RHP/INF - Culver City - Uncommitted (Now: 128 Previous: 147)
Riesenberg was another scout ball find during the later part of the summer entering the fall who flashed an interesting profile, but did not have his loudest performance. Continuing to track his performance over the fall helped to see his raw tools turn into more consistent performance including a FB which has now worked in the 87-88 MPH range while sitting at 84-86 from a loose arm and wiry frame that has room to add velocity in the future. He has also shown intersting position player profile with some feel to hit from the LH side. Riesenberg is another rising Soph. who, if he can carve out a significant spot on the varsity level in the spring at Culver City, should see his profile make another jump in the future.

CLASS OF 2027 RANKINGS: NEWCOMERS
After a fall of competitive action on the cirucit, here are the newcomers to the '27 rankings based on their summer showings.
TOP-100 NEWCOMERS:
+ Aidden Moten - SS - St. Bernand - Memphis (Now Ranked: 34)
Moten is an intriguing athlete who shows advanced tools across the board with the long term potential to stick at a premium defensive spot of SS. We had a chance to see him early in the scout ball scene, where despite being one of very few 2027 grads competing against a predominantly '25/'26 rosters of players, was able to show his impressive toolset. He is a dynamic defender who flashes impact potential with his actions, hands and arm. He also adds an athletic operation in the batters box with feel for his barrel that plays into a high contact profile with leverage to the gaps, and pullside HR power with an interesting upside. Moten joins our rankings board for the first time amongst the Top 35 players in the state.
+ Justin Gregory - C/RHP - Rodriguez - Uncommitted (Now Ranked: 94)
Gregory is the second newcomer to the Top 100 entering in the back portion after a strong showing the fall at the NorCal Uncommitted Games. Gregory stands 6'1 180 lbs. showing potential as both a backstop and righthander who comes off a 2024 that saw him start behind the plate as a Fr. at Rodriguez. He showed bat speed, feel to hit, arm strength and sound catching ability at the NorCal uncommitted game and continued to hit on a variety of different platforms in the fall. Keep your eyes on this rising NorCal Soph. as a rise may follow his debut should he put together a strong spring high schoool season.10 NAMES TO KNOW OUTSIDE THE TOP 101 (101-175)
* Taking a look at 10 newcomers outside the Top 100 who could jump into the Top 100 in our next update.
+ Austin Olness - 3B/SS - Mira Costa - Uncommitted (Now Ranked: 108)
Olness plays for a talented Mira Costa program where he is going to be in the mix to potentially earn a prominent role on the varsity level. Our staff got eyes on Olness at the SoCal Top Prospects Underclass event where he showed off his power tool with an impressive in game HR to the pullside which was a no doubt blast off the bat putting an exclamation mark on a strong overall performance. He continued to flash his hit tool with power over the rest of the fall and puts himself on the rankings board just outside the Top 100.+ Ryan Christman - OF/RHP - Paloma Valley - Uncommitted (Now Ranked: 129)
Christman is an athletic two-way out of the Inland Empire who is also a two-sport athlete that plays football. Joining our board this fall after a strong showing out that SoCal Top Prospects Underclass event, and with the Dodgers Underclass Scout team during their fall circuit, Christman has an interesting RHH profile that shows impact to the pullside that could potentially profile into a middle of the field impact profile. A strong showing on the varsity level in the spring, should he earn a role with Paloma Valley, can help him make a rise up our board after debuting this fall.+ Carson Caras - OF/RHP - Harvard Westlake - Uncommitted (Now Ranked: 131)
A product of the talented powerhouse Harvard Westlake program, Caras spent his Fr. year on the lower levels, but came to the VTA County Uncommitted Game and showed off his upside potential to go with an athletic build and two-way profile. Caras is more present tools than polish, but those tools were intriguing including an in game double to RCF where he showed his impact and athleticism pushing it to second base, backing up a good workout on the offensive/defensive side. Caras also toed the rubber showing interesting present stuff from a somewhat raw feel for pitching. Breaking through on the varsity level at Harvard Westlake this spring will be tough with the depth of older talent there, but keep your eyes on Caras for a potential future rise.+ Bronson Jackson - 3B - Chaminade - Uncommitted (Now Ranked: 139)
Jackson quickly caught our eye during a Thanksgiving weekend live look at a high school winter ball tournament in SoCal. Standing 6'3 180 lbs. with an athletic build, clean actions on the INF dirt, present solid arm strength, and a pretty LH swing that showed well in game, there is plenty to like with Jackson. While the track record on him is not deep at present, the tools, frame, athletic ability, and potential to earn varsity playing time, jumps him onto our board for the first time and will definitely be a name to follow out of the talented Mission League program in Chaminade.+ Brody Burnett - 3B - Buena - Uncommitted (Now Ranked: 145)
Burnett attended the VTA County Uncommitted Game as one of the younger players in attendance with a predominantly '25/'26 group, but the RHH corner INF from Buena showed himself to be one of the more interesting players in attendance. With strong present athletic ability including a 29" vertical jump from a 6'3 150 lbs. wiry lean frame, he combines athletic actions on the INF with body control, rhythm to his feet, smooth hands and comfort throwing from a variety of slots the defensive profile. He flashes a sound RHH swing with present gap-to-gap line drive approach. He will need to polish his approach/timing and add strength to tap into what looks like solid power profile. Burnett has some present rawness to his foundation, but the upside to his ceiling could make his debut at 145 on our board a distant memory in the future should he reach the potential his tools/frame show and rise up our board.+ Charlie Cummings - INF - Sierra Canyon - Uncommitted (Now Ranked: 147)
Cummings is sound RHH who shows bat-to-ball skills from an unconventional set up along with a sound up-the-middle defensive profile. Collecting multiple hits in game at the SoCal Top Prospects Underclass event while showing solid actions at 2B defensively, there is plenty to like presently about Cummings's feel to play the game. He debuts on our board after a fall in which he continued to hit well, backing up his showing for our staff, and amongst a very talented young group of position players at Sierra Canyon, he is a name to keep eyes on in the future.+ Ty Van Zutphen - RHP/OF - Servite - Uncommitted (Now Ranked: 153)
A wiry lean 6'5 170 lbs. two-way product out of the Trinty League based Servite program, the foundation of what he showed at SoCal Top Prospects Underclass was sound. It's presently a solid overall set of tools with feel to throw strikes from an arsenal that can add velocity/power, should he add strength onto his lean frame. A good athlete who ran a 6.9 60 and showed a sound RH swing, his offensive upside is similar to his pitching profile should he add strength. Van Zutphen joins our board with potential to rise in the future with further development to his frame, skillset and in-game performance.+ Nick Gonzales - SS/OF - Highland - Uncommitted (Now Ranked: 155)
Gonzales is a compactly built athlete who flashes an up the middle defensive profile with profiles best at CF/2B. He does flash the potential to handle CF should he add arm strength as he matures. It's a high contact line drive RH swing that works the middle of the field and shows solid running ability to be impactful on the bases. Gonzales is in the mix for a significant role on the varsity level at Highland High, a perenially strong program in the High Desert. A player to keep an eye on as he continues to mature physically, athletically and as a baseball player.+ Chase Thompson - C - Whitney - Uncommitted (Now Ranked: 159)
Thompson has produced plenty of very strong reports coming out of NorCal and has a well-rounded profile that is fronted by a strong defensive profile at a premium spot. The RHH shows leverage in the swing with balance and feel to hit through the middle of the field. He looks to be in the mix to compete for a spot on the varsity level, but the future for him at the talented Whitney program is very bright as he eventually should take over the primary backstop role and figure prominently in the lineup.+ Asher Bunnin - OF/2B - Harvard Westlake - Uncommitted (Now Ranked: 164)
Bunnin is another talented younger player at the perennial power Harvard Westlake program who exhibits a bright future. The RHH has a compact direct swing which showed well this fall for Legacy Baseball group showing the feel to hit in game at a solid level. While earning varsity playing time with the depth of older talent at Harvard Westlake may be difficult come the spring time, Bunnin does look to have a solid potential to make his mark on the lineup one day.
