La Mirada, Calif. - On a beautiful, sunny, and crisp January morning, La Mirada High School's brand-new stadium was the perfect stage for a winterball game between two heavyweights in Corona and the host Matadores. With winterball games serving as a tune-up for the upcoming season, all pitchers threw just one inning for Corona, while La Mirada pitchers threw two apiece as they eased into their spring routines. Most hitters got a minimum of three at-bats as well.
Corona being the defending Prep Baseball National Champions, and quite possibly better this season, the Panthers should find themselves at the top of the upcoming Prep Baseball California Power 25.
This was a nine-inning game that had a little bit of everything from Home Runs to strong defensive plays and quality pitching. The crowd was strong for a January game too, as you would expect from both of these programs.
In this notebook we’ll take a look at some of the notable peformances from the Corona Panthers.
CORONA
With a lineup that featured eight college commits and a freshman, Corona’s offense seems more loaded headed into the spring. The Panthers lineup went: LSU, Tennessee, LSU, Vanderbilt, Auburn, Texas A&M, Vanguard, Arizona St., and the aforementioned freshman.
The Corona coaches provided scouts and onlookers with the bonus of starting their pitching with Seth Hernandez followed by Billy Carlson before a series of arms took to the mound to close out the game.
Quick Look at 2X @prepbaseball All-American Seth Hernandez of @CoronaPBaseball. #Vandy commit showing the full repertoire in his one inning of work.
