Ventura, Calif. - The Uncommitted Spotlight Series takes a dive back into the 2025 class as this class is inching closer to their final seasons of High School baseball there are still several talented uncommitted players in this class who our staff has had the opportunity to see compete. Our player today is featured within our Class of 2025 rankings and is one of the top uncommitted players left in the state for that class.

We invite you to get to know the players featured here through the eyes of our Prep Baseball California staff of scouts both through our in person looks at players and/or the data-backed numbers collected at our events with our partnered companies. TrackMan, Blast Motion, and Swift Performance provide comparable data to project and evaluate players. All of these systems come together to give a clear picture at what colleges will get when a players steps onto their campus.

Today, we put our focus on the Southern California scene for a look at the number 79 ranked player for 2025 in '25 OF/RHP Gavin Egan from Aquinas High School out of the Inland Empire. This past spring for Aquinas, Egan flashed his upside by posing a .297/.416/.391 slash line in 90 at bats while drawing 10 walks. He scored 20 runs, drove in 9 with 3 doubles and 2 triples to his offensive production while finishing second on the team with 17 stolen bases. As well, the 2-way product put together an impressive year on the mound with a 5-0 record across 11 appearances posting a 1.19 ERA with 41.1 innings pitched. Egan punched out 40 hitters with just 9 walks with a WHIP below 1.00 on the season. His Jr. season came as part of Ambassador League title team going 24-7 on the year and 10-2 in league before falling in the Quarterfinals of the CIF-SS D1 playoffs.

Defensively, his present actions and athleticism profiles a potential to play all 3 OF positions, including a strong potential to stay in CF. Running a 6.85 60 with 86 MPH OF arm velocity he can be a solid to potential impactful defender.

The RH hitter has a wiry athletic build at 5'11 and 163 lbs and during BP at the West Coast Games showcased a quality swing with sound metrics. Egan shows an accurate swing with good present bat speed that peaked at 71 MPH which suits his gap to gap approach with leverage through the middle of the field. He demonstrates quickness to his hands and the ability to use them in the swing peaking at 21.5 MPH. His turn is aggressive with present ability to build up to his top bat speed with a peak of 22.6 Gs of max rotational acceleration. The foundation of a compact swing with an accurate barrel played into the quality of his batted ball data during batting practice. Gavin peaked at 92 MPH on his exit velocity while an average EV at 84.6 MPH during various batting practices on Trackman. As well, he posted a 88% sweet spot rate with a max distance of 340'.

In addition, Egan adds an interesting righthanded pitching profile with a starters potential based on his feel to throw strikes, athletic delivery and proven track record of success on the mound, but can also add depth to a college bullpen, as well. He works off a 3 pitch mix of a FB/SLD/CHG and in the past has thrown a CB, but shifting to the 3 pitch mix has allowed his stuff to start to reach his potential. Egan features a FB in the 84-86 MPH range which peaked at 87.1 MPH during the West Coast Games which he threw in the zone at an 85% clip with an average of nearly 15" of IVB and 11" of horizontal run with peak spin rates above 2200 RPMs. He backs it up with a solid SLD at 74-78 MPH which he can spin above 2400 RPMs with that averages around 5.5" of horizontal break. His third offering is his 78-80 MPH CHG which he kills spin on at around 1600 RPMs with an average 15.7" of horizontal fade to the arm side.

Egan figures to see significant time in the Aquinas lineup as they look to battle for a league title and a potential deep run in the CIF-Southern Section playoffs come May. The talented 2-way product is one college coaches should continue to pay close attention to for their 2025 recruiting classes to add a quality piece to either their lineup, pitching staff or both.
