Ventura, Calif. - The Uncommitted Spotlight Series returns as we stare straight ahead towards the 2025 CIF High School baseball rapidly approach for the '26 class. With than in mind Prep Baseball California is highlighting some of the top uncommitted class of '26 athletes for college programs to be following come this spring. The player featured today is one of the top players in the state of California and figures prominently in our Class of 2026 Rankings

We invite you to get to know them through the eyes of our Prep Baseball California staff of scouts both through our in person looks at players and/or the data-backed numbers collected at our events with our partnered companies. TrackMan, Blast Motion, and VALD Performance provide comparable data to project and evaluate players. All of these systems come together to give a clear picture at what colleges will get when a players steps onto their campus.

Today, we put the spotlight on the #61 ranked player in the 2026 class in SoCal '26 RHP/OF Tyson Bobo from Patrick Henry High School in San Diego. Bobo was on the varsity level for the talented Patriots program in San Diego where he gained some valuable experience both getting reps on the position player side while getting his feet wet on the pitching side, but figures to gain a more prominent role in 2025 for their program. On the offensive side Bobo posted a .273/.320/.318 slash line over over 14 games with 22 total at bats (25 plate apperances) while collecting 1 double and driving in 2 runs and scoring 3 runs. He also made two apperances on the mound for a total of 1.2 IP and punched out 2 hitters. During those brief looks our San Diego Area Scout Matt Monk saw the raw tools and upside for Bobo and then during the summer/fall travel-showcase-scout ball circuit Bobo showed his upside in front of myself that has him highly ranked and we anticipate a breakout spring in terms of performance for him.

Bobo was a standout performer at the 2025 Prep Baseball California San Diego Preseason All State event where he checked in at a present 6' 172.6 lbs. that has wiry strength to it and shows room to add more as he continues to mature. A solid athlete he posted a 7.26 second 60 time with a 1.79 10 yard burst at the event. His defensive actions and present arm ability give him potential to handle either OF corner with flashes of a RF profile arm that showed 88 MPH arm strength with carry to his throws that has a chance to continue adding strength as his frame continues to fill out.

In addition to a quality OF defensive profile, Bobo flashed an intriguing profile as an offensive piece. His RH swing displayed loud metrics on Blast Motion at the San Diego Preseason All State including reaching a max of 83.6 MPH of bat speed and averaged 79.4 MPH with present quickness in his hand path posting a peak of 22.6 MPH hand speed and 21.6 MPH average hand speed on his batting practice swings. The torque he generates in his swing is a solid trait as he peaks at 17.5 Gs of rotational acceleration and averaged 15.7 Gs throughout batting practice. The explosiveness to his swing helped to generate loud Trackman batted ball data during batting practice from an uphill swing path that generated a 25% fly ball rate, but loud present top end exit velocity with a max of 100.6 MPH and 90.4 MPH avg exit velocity, but the feel for getting through the baseball does need refinement with the uphill path as he lived more with a hard groundball profile on the day, but the impact is real as he had a 75% hard hit rate on the day.

As intriguing as his profile is on the position player side is when the talented righthander toes the rubber it really raises his profile as a college level recruit. He has strong present arm speed which with an athletic operation to the delivery helps him generate consistent upper 80's velocity at 88-89 MPH while topping at 90.6 MPH from a low release height at 5'3" and produces solid arm side run average around 11.5" of horizontal movement. He backs up the FB with a SLD that gives him a strong east/west profile and Bobo flashes present life to the pitch coming in at 74-76 MPH consistently and reached a high of 77.4 MPH while showing 16" of horizontal break and some two-plane tilt to the offering as it got -3.4" of IVB to be a strong whiff/chase offering that produces on average 2250 RPMs of spin and presently peaks at 2500+ RPMs of spin. His third offering is an emerging CHG which he throws at 79-81 MPH that comes from a low release height again at 5'2". Bobo has a solid present foundation with his delivery, present stuff and flashes control for the strike zone, but his ceiling is intriguingly high as he has a chance to add further strength to his frame/arm and polish his arsenal to be a high-quality righthand pitching option for the '26 class.

In the 2024 season, I wasn't able to see much of Bobo due to a transfer sit-out period for the first half of the season and limited time in the lineup and on the mound. The small glimpses were enough to make me a believer, Bobo's swings were high leverage and looked the part while the defense was lights out. Following Bobo in the summer, the pitching looked the part, with velocity reaching into the low 90s and a quality breaking ball. Bobo backed up everything I saw in the spring on Saturday. He showed off the arm talent with multiple throws reaching 88 mph from the outfield. At the plate in BP, Bobo had the second highest bat speed of the event at 83.6 mph and had a max EV of 100.6 and an average of 90.4. In his first at-bat, Bobo turned around on a high 80s FB to smoke a double into the LCF gap with 97 EV. He then hopped on the mound and dominated, setting down four straight batters while striking out two. He mixed a FB from 88-90 with a wipe out slider at 74-77 that was located for strikes and got multiple swings when placed in the LH batters box.
