Ventura, Calif. - The Uncommitted Spotlight Series returns as we stare straight ahead towards the 2025 CIF High School baseball rapidly approach for the '26 class. With than in mind Prep Baseball California is highlighting some of the top uncommitted class of '26 athletes for college programs to be following come this spring. The player featured today is one of the top players in the state of California and figures prominently in our Class of 2026 Rankings.
We invite you to get to know them through the eyes of our Prep Baseball California staff of scouts both through our in person looks at players and/or the data-backed numbers collected at our events with our partnered companies. TrackMan, Blast Motion, and VALD Performance provide comparable data to project and evaluate players. All of these systems come together to give a clear picture at what colleges will get when a players steps onto their campus.
Today, we put the spotlight on the #92 ranked player in the 2026 class in SoCal '26 RHP Osvaldo Nunez from Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks. With a loaded staff in 2024 at Notre Dame Nunez pitched on the lower levels at the pitching factory program which has produced year in and year out D1 level arms and MLB draft prospects on a consistent basis. Now heading into his JR. campaign for the Knights he is eyeing a key role on the staff for them as they look to return to the top of the Mission League.
Nunez has been a two-time standout at Prep Baseball California gameplay events starting with an eye-opening first look for our staff at the 2024 Orange County Uncommitted Game which he backed up at the 2025 Central California Preseason All State event. In each look he showed a high quality pitch mix with his FB-SLD-CHG and feel to throw strikes from an athletic operation that has present arm speed with room to add as he continues to mature. As well, he was dominant in a brief look for myself on the 2024 CIF Winter Ball scouting scene when I saw Notre Dame take on Royal High School for an early Decemeber match up.
Across those two outings for our staff at Prep Baseball California Nunez put up strong Trackman data on his pitch arsenal. Presently, it is fronted by a high quality FB which has worked at 88-91 consistently and then bumped 91.9 at the Central California Preseason All State event. Nunez throws from a lower release height averaging between 5' to 5'3" at release and generates running life to the FB getting on average around 14.6" of arm side run to the offering and can flash the feel to elevate the pitch reaching as high as 16.5" of average IVB and can peak over 19" with intriguing spin rates north of 2400+ RPMs. Backing up his FB is a pair of offspeed offerings that are fronted by his intriguing CHG which I've seen heavy arm side fade with tumble and is thrown at 81-83 MPH and effectively kills spin on the pitch giving it deception to induce both soft contact/whiff while showing confidence to throw it versus both RHH/LHH in game. The SLD for Nunez is an emerging pitch which over the course of all 3 offerings has shown consistent improvement for me coming in first at the OC Uncommitted Game at 68-70 MPH with around -10" of horizontal break, but spun it at just 2100+ RPMs on the max then it started to show more life when I got a few looks at it during the winter ball scouting trip before looking even better at the Central California Preseason All State event where Nunez threw it at 73-76 MPH with improved horizontal break averaging -13.7" and peaking over -18" and reaching spin rates now at nearly 2300 RPMs.
His ability to mix high quality stuff with consistent control across my trio of live looks backs up the present foundation for Nunez. He can continue to add life to his FB and SLD while refining the feel for his CHG to improve the quality of his pitch mix and then as he polishes his command of his pitches to go with his present feel for control gives him a starters profile ceiling with a leverage reliever floor going forward. For any college program still looking for talented arms in the '26 they would be well served paying close attention to Nunez this spring and into the summer as a potential option for that role.

Scouting Report
Osvaldo Nunez, Notre Dame High School (CA), 2026
Positional Profile: RHP/1B Rising arm who shows quality present FB velocity, impressive CHG and emerging SLD that has a starters profile with a high ceiling
Body: 6-4, 190-pounds. Prototype pitcher build with strength in lower half and room to fill still
Delivery: Lower hand set with small movement as it syncs with the front leg in the load portion of delivery. Front leg leads down the mound with athletic easy operation. Uses hips well while flashing feel to block on his front side.
Arm Action: RH. Short compact arm path out of the glove with present quick arm speed that works to more of a 3/4 release point with minimal recoil after release.
FB: T92, 89-91 mph. Firm FB which has really good spin and the shape has both ride and run especially when thrown up in the zone T2473, 2307 average rpm.
SL: 73-76 mph. Emerging SLD which is starting to show better spin to go with horizontal sweep that can be a glove side moving offering with potential T2297, 2191 average rpm.
CH: 81-83 mph. Deceptive CHG with heavy fade to the arm side and ability to kill spin. Picks up whiff and soft contact on it. T1713, 1662 average rpm.
Nunez entered the event as one of the most highly regarded arms in attendance at the Notre Dame righthander did not disappoint whatsoever. In fact, he reached a new personal best hitting 92 MPH with his FB while mixing in an ever improving SLD which is starting to gain velocity and life as he gains improved feel for it. Plus, like Newhouse above Nunez throws a highly intriguing CHG which he turns over with deception to get swing/miss - chase - soft contact from hitters. Nunez was touched for a hit after a deep count by Oregon Commit Brady Hewitt who went down and got a 3-2 SLD low away for a single and missed with a SLD for HBP, but picked up multiple Ks and showed once again why he is on the rise in Southern California and the entire state.
