2018 Senior Games Outfield Analysis

The Prep Baseball Report’s 2019 Senior Games took place Wednesday June 20th at The University of Colorado Colorado Springs Prospects from the 2019 class came together in a pro-style workout and a 9 inning game to strut their stuff in front of the PBR scouting staff.

Following is a look at top performances in a number of measurable categories. Click Here for a statistical breakdown of this event.

Over the course of the next week we will break down individual performances.  We began our look with the catching position, now we look at the outfielders.



2018 Senior Games Outfield Analysis


Elias Borjas OF / 2B / Lakewood , CO / 2019

An athletic 5-foot-9, 135-pound right hand hitting OF/MIF who ran a 7.12 60.  Right-handed hitter, Open stance, big leg kick trigger, solid balance. Short loose path, hands create bat speed, projectable traits at the plate. 81 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively he move well in the outfield with good instincts and speed.  Arm is accurate to the bag at 77 mph.

 

 

 

Matthew Delgado OF / LHP / Holy Family High School, CO / 2019

5-foot-10, 189-pound right hand hitting OF/LHP who ran a 7.84 60. Open stance with a high leg kick to come square. Strong lower leg drive on the swing with good extension out front.  Hands create good whip in the zone.  Exit velocity was 77 mph.  In the outfield he moves well and attacks the ball in.  Arm is high ¾ with carry to the bag.  Arm played at 73 mph. Simple motion on the mound, gets square at balance and falls to the plate.  At times he gets stuck on his back side.  Arm is high ¾ fastball was 74-75 mph with late run.  He added a 2/7 sweeping curve that sat 67-68 mph.

 

 

 

Justin Friedman OF / Highlands Ranch, CO / 2019

An athletic 6-foot-3, 160-pound right hand hitting OF who ran a 7.18 60. Simple set up at the plate.  Balanced with a slight double tap on the pitch.  Swing is long and loose through the zone.  Ball jumps off his bat.  Pull side hitter with power.  Exit velocity was 84 mph.  Defensively he glides to the ball and shows a good path to cut down the gaps. Arm is high ¾ with accuracy to the bag.  Arm played at 72 mph.

 

 

 

Jared Grenz OF / Cody, WY / 2019

5-foot-9, 170-pound right hand hitting OF who ran a Senior Games best 6.75 60. At the plate he is balanced with a high lift and place stride.  Lower half explodes through the zone and hands follow an uphill path through the zone.  Good barrel whip with an 84 mph exit velocity.  Showed good gap to gap power with two doubles in the game.  In the field he covers ground with his 6.7 speed.  Does a great job rounding the ball and attacking in.  Throws over the top at 79 mph with accuracy to the bag.

 

 

 

Trevor Hazlett OF / Frederick, CO / 2019

A 6-foot-0, 145-pound switch hitting OF who ran a 7.06 60. From the left side he stands slightly open.  Long stride to come square with an uphill swing path.  Hands stay inside the ball and he hits to all fields.  Exit velocity was 78 from the left side.  Aggressive from the right side, quick stride and load and lower half explodes through the zone.  Swing path is level and exit velocity was 77 mph. In the field he is athletic and plays the game with good instincts.  Does a nice job cutting down the angle on the ball and throws from an over the top arm slot.  Arm was 78 mph from the field.
