2019 Players Who Stood Out at Underclass Invitational

Heading into the 2nd Annual Underclass Invitational, the collective crop of 2019 and 2018 players created a significant buzz, and the 63 prospects that showed up on Jan. 31 did not disappoint. Below is a look at some 2018 players that came to a PBR Colorado event for the first time who stood out. Players are listed in Alphabetical Order, and below is their detailed scouting report from the event.

Riley Cornelio, RHP/SS, Pine Creek High School (2019)
A 6-foot-2, 160-pound right hand hitter who ran a 4.5 home to first.   At the plate he hits from a wide balanced stance.  He has a short stride and good weight transfer through the zone.  Quick hands helped produce an 86 MPH exit velocity.  On the mound stand tall and then gets compact during his motion.  He lands slightly closed and throws across his body.  He gets good extension out front on his fastball, which registered at 85 MPH with good command of the plate.  He added a 68 MPH curve with sweeping 10/4 break and a 74 MPH change.   In the field he shows smooth actions and quick feet to the ball.  He works well on balls to the backhand side.  He featured an 82 MPH arm with accuracy.  Identified as the best two way player and most projectable 2019 player at the UCI.

Michael Felton, C/OF, Mountain View High School (2018)
5-foot-11, 180-pound right hand hitting catcher/outfielder who ran a 4.23 home to first.  At the plate he hits from a slightly open stance.  He shows quick hands and hips to the ball and produces an 89 MPH exit velocity. Shows good power potential. Behind the plate he has quick feet and a quick release.  His pop-times were 2.09-2.11 with a 77 MPH arm.  He blocks well and has quiet hands when receiving. Athletic catcher.

Ethan Frasier, 3B/RHP, ThunderRidge High School (2019)
6-foot-0, 185-pound right hand hitter who ran a 4.6 home to first.  At the plate he hits from a balanced stance with a slight toe tap for timing hands drop at the beginning of the swing creating an uphill swing path exit velocity was 83 MPH.  In the field he shows quick feet and smooth actions through the ball throws from a 3/4 arm slot and showcased an 84 MPH arm.  On the mound he has a balanced leg kick and lands in line with the plate, shows good arm speed on all three pitches showcased a 78 MPH fastball, a 63 MPH curve and a 64 MPH change.

Zach Rush, SS/RHP, Fruita Monument High School (2019)
6-foot-3, 190-pound right hand hitter who ran a 4.5 home to first.  At the plate he stands tall and balanced.  He has a short quick stride and quick hips through the zone.  Long arms keep the barrel in the zone on a good swing plane and he showcased an 86 MPH exit velocity.  In the field he shows good feet and soft hands.  He moves well to his glove side and throws from a ¾ arm angle with a 74 MPH arm.  On the mound he stands tall and gets good drive to the plate.  He has good extension on the delivery and lands in-line with the plate.  He showcased a 77 MPH fastball with good command inside and a 67 MPH curve with 10/4 break.  He finished with a 64 MPH change down in the zone.  He was identified with the best hitting approach 2019 at the UCI.

Jett Hoggatt, C/RHP, Rocky Mountain High School (2019)
6-foot-0, 190-pound right hand hitting catcher/right hand pitcher who ran a showcase best 4.03 home to first.   At the plate he hits from an open stance with a slight leg kick to square up.  Hands are at the top for the zone and slightly wrap.  He hits off a firm front side and has quick hands that produce an 87 MPH exit velocity.  Behind the plate he is quiet and receives the ball well.  He stays low through the throw and delvers an accurate ball at 77 MPH and a 2.14 pop-time.  On the mound, he stays balanced and has a slight sink and drive to his motion.  He throws from a high ¾ arm slot and does a nice job of keeping the same arm speed on pitches.  He featured an 81 MPH fastball along with a 63 MPH curve and 64 MPH change. Nice 2019 player to follow. 

Collin Kringlen, 1B/RHP, Holy Family High School (2019)
6-foot-3, 165-pound left hand hitter who ran a 4.63 home to first.  At the plate he hits with a quiet lower half, slight toe tap for timing and good hip rotation and extension through the ball.  He finishes high and showcased an 81 MPH exit velocity.  In the field he shows good movement quick feet that get him into a good throwing position.  He throws from an over-the-top arm angle and displayed a 74 MPH arm velocity.  On the mound he throws from a balanced position and slightly leans back on delivery, he lands straight in line with the plate and falls off slightly to the first base side on his finish.  He uses an over-the-top arm slot to showcase a 78 MPH fastball, 64 MPH curve with 11 to 5 break and a 70 MPH change. A lot of physical projectability.

Jaden Murray, C/OF, Valor Christian High School (2019)
6-foot-2, 180-pound right hand hitting catcher/outfielder who ran a 4.5 home to first. At the plate he hits from a balanced stance and has a slight toe tap for timing.  Hands drop slightly on the swing and create a slight upward swing path.  He had an 84 MPH exit velocity.  Behind the plate he has good movement when blocking balls.  He moves around the plate on throw downs and had a 2.09 pop-time.  He showcased a 78 MPH arm velocity.  

Patrick Strawbridge, 1B/RHP, Regis Jesuit High School (2019)
6-foot-4, 175-pound right hand hitter who ran a 4.63 home to first.  At the plate he hits from a tall balanced stance.  A small stride and hand load get his weight moving forward with good hip rotation.  He registered an 82 MPH exit velocity.  In the field he showed good mechanics and accuracy with his arm.  He had an 80 MPH arm velocity.  On the mound he has a high leg kick and hides the ball out of his glove.  He lands in-line with the plate and throws from a high ¾ arm slot.  He falls off to the side on his finish.  He registered a 78 MPH fastball that lived down in the zone and also featured a 65 MPH curve and a 66 MPH change. A lot of upside as a pitcher.
