Classes of 2017 and 2018 Top LHP Fastball Velocities

Over the next couple of weeks we are going to recap some of the best statistics we have on record at our events since our launch in April of 2014. We have covered the top 60 times in the 2017 and 2018 classes, and the 2016 Class. We have covered top OF Velos for the 2017 and 2018 classes and the 2016 Class, top INF Velos for the2017 and 2018 classes and top INF Velos for the 2016 class. Top catchers pop-times for the 2016 class and 2017-2018 classes. Top exit velocities for the 2016 class. Conner Nantkes, LHP/1B, Cherokee Trail, 2017 
FB Velocity:  84

Scouting Report:  6-foot-1, 180 pounds. Bats and throws left. Nantkes was voted most projectable arm at the event. Hands start high and has a very fluid motion to the plate. Square, in-line, and arm works real well with lower half. After delivery will slightly fall off to 3rd. Has a high 3/4 arm slot. Fastball is on you, and is thrown consistently at 81 to 82 mph but touched 84. Tails away from right handed hitters. Curveball has 1/7 shape and comes in at 68 mph with tight spin. Change has fade away from right handed hitters thrown at 70-71 mph. At the plate shows potential as a two-way player. Athletic balanced wide stance with slight crouch. Hips work good. Smooth swing off short stride. Gap to gap hitter with good bat speed. Generated 89 mph exit velocity off the tee. In the OF has solid fundamentals. Projects as a corner OF. Threw 77 from right to 3rd. Ran a 7.50 60.

Toby Scoles, LHP/OF, Pine Creek, 2017

Scouting Report:  Athletic build, 5-foot-11, 165-pound outfielder/left-handed pitcher. Offensively hits from a balanced, athletic stance with a short stride leg kick. Hands are even with shoulder and back elbow setup. Bat is wrapped slightly behind head with short load. Level swing with good extension. Line drive type hitter, occasionally lifts the baseball, 79 mph exit velocity off the tee. Defensively plays through the baseball, shows athleticism. Ran a home to first in 4.22 seconds. Arm played well from the outfield, short over the top slot, some accuracy, showed carry at 84 mph. On the mound fastball sits 79-80 mph, and hit one 82 mph. Has clean set up and at delivery tilts to a high ¾ arm slot, simple, tall-and-fall repeatable delivery, toe down at balance point, 66-67 mph breaking ball showed gradual break, 73-74 mph changeup displayed cutting action.

Scouting Report: A 5-foot-11, 180-pound, LHP who was a little banged up for this event with a sprained ankle.  On the mound he stand tall and falls to the plate.  He has an over the top arm slot and displayed a 75 MPH fastball that lived on the outer half.  He also showcased a 63-65 MPH curve with gradual break to the right hand hitter.
