Best of the Best: Corners

Devon Nowells 3B / RHP / Longmont High, CO / 2021

Uncommitted. 6-foot-3, 162 pounds. Bats and throws left. Athletic player (also plays basketball). At the plate uses a narrow stance with slight crouch. Slow leg kick stride that's down on time. Minimal load. Line drive hitter up the middle with level swing through zone. Good extension through hitting zone.  Consistent hard contact in live round. Produced a 83 mph exit velocity off a tee. Defensively was fluid with actions, good lateral movement and range to both sides. Arm velo was 77 across the diamond with accuracy. Ran a simulated 4.45 home to first. Arm is short on the backside, and quick towards the plate. Sometimes he feels he has to rush, and that could be corrected if balance point gets to 90 degrees, but still is on time towards the plate. Does not need a lot of effort to generate velo. Creates deception by landing slightly closed towards plate. Fastball lived 81-82 consistently with more there. Curveball is 70-71 mph with 12-6 shape, and changeup is thrown at same arm speed as fastball at 73-74. Another projectable 2021 pitcher who has a lot of room to add velocity with current body frame.

Wyatt Hough 3B / RHP / Legend , CO / 2021

Uncommitted. 5-foot-11, 190 pounds. Hough hits from a balanced stance with a slight crouch. Load is short and down which creates an uphill swing through hitting zone, short to contact with hand and with good extension through the baseball. A lot of strength in swing, and power potential. During live hitting round showed ability to barrel every pitch with solid contact with pull side tendencies.. Registered a 90 mph Exit velo off the tee. Strong upper half and build. You can see the power potential moving forward. Showcased a strong arm from over the top arm slot with accuracy at 79 mph. Lateral movement to both sides was good with soft hands. Ran a simulated 4.15 home to first time hitting off a tee.

Luke Byler 3B / RHP / Lutheran HS, CO / 2022

Uncommitted. 6-foot-2, 175 pounds. Bats and throws right. Lanky, projectable frame. At the plate has a balanced stance. Load is soft back. Generates most power from upper body with pull side tendencies. Bat path is short to ball, level through the zone with high finish. Hard contact during live round. Produced a 85 mph exit velocity off the tee. In the field showcased good actions, quick lateral movement to both sides, soft hands and good glove to hand exchange with quick release from 3/4 arm slot. Arm velo across the diamond was 74 mph. Rand a simulated 4.45 home to first time off a tee. On the mound has some raw abilities which could project into an upper 80 fastball. Arm is over the top on mound, lands inline with good reach, and strong legs. Fastball lived 77-79 mph with a change that sat 72 mph at same arm speed.

TJ Rheem 3B / 1B / Chaparral, CO / 2021

Uncommitted. 6-foot, 160 pounds. Bats and throws right. At the plate has a balanced stance with short stride. Loads down which creates uphill bat path. Good extension through the baseball with gap to gap approach. Hard contact during live round. Produced a 79 mph exit velocity off a tee, but in live round bat speed played faster. Has lower half strength. Showed above average range at 3rd with quick feet. Gets in good position and has good lateral movement to both sides. Over the top arm slot at 75 mph. Ran a simulated 4.45 home to first with dry swing.

Max Morris 1B / 3B / Heritage, CO / 2021

Some raw power and strength in swing. Pull side tendencies. Solid contact during live round, and produced a 87 mph exit velocity off a tee. Good feet at first. Plays the position with confidence and moves well around the bag. Good glove to hand exchange with soft hands. Arm velo was 63 mph to 2B on turn. Has chance to develop into a real power hitter. Ran a 4.9 simulated home to first.
