Leading up to the start of the high school season, we will count down the Top 50 preseason teams every day as part of our comprehensive season coverage.

Like any preseason ranking for any sport, last year our list created a lot of fun conversations, debate, and opinions among players, coaches, and families. To see what we got right, and what we got wrong in 2017 Click Here

What makes our list unique is it combines all classifications (1A through 5A), and leading up to the start of the high school season, we will count down the Top 50 preseason teams every day as part of our comprehensive season coverage.

Factors that are considered when creating the Top 50 List are the following:

- How many current players are returning that are in PBR Colorado rankings
- How many overall players committed or non-committed are returning
- How many starting pitchers are returning
- Success the previous season
- History of success in the program

* We expect the teams in the Top 50 Countdown will compete for at least a district playoff spot in 2018

Team No. 15: Green Mountain Rams

2018 Preseason Rank: 15
2017 Preseason Rank:
2017 Record: 15-4
Conference: Jefferson County
CHSAA Class: 4A
Head Coach: Brad Kidwell
2017 Playoff Run: Lost to Longmont in District Round
2017 Final Rank: 20
Returning Offensive Starters: 3
Returning Pitchers: 3
Returning Innings on Mound: 58
RBI's returning: 44

STAT RAT: 52 Stolen Bases for the rams last season, they get people on base and find ways to put pressure on teams with stolen bases.

X-FACTORS: How to replace 7 seniors and on top player who moved away?

BOTTOM LINE: The Rams start the 2018 season on March 15th which will begin a new chapter for Green Mountain and Coach Kidwell.  This is a team with a rich tradition of winning and expectations are high for the Rams.  They return 58 innings on the mound and 8 of their wins.  This experience will serve Green Mountain well in a tough Jeffco League and get them ready for tournament play in May.

Players to Watch

Reece Noel OF / LHP / Green Mountain, CO / 2018

Noel returns to lead the Rams on the mound.  Last year he ate up 21.2 innings and collected 23 strikeouts along the way.  Noel will lead the Rams early on as their new players find their footing.

Sage Schaller RHP / OF / Green Mountain, CO / 2018

Schaller had a big year last year for Green Mountain.  He finished the season with a .411 avg. with 23 hits and 20 RBI.  Look for Sage to anchor the line up this season and provide an early season spark for the Rams.

Michael Busse SS / RHP / Green Mountain, CO / 2019

Busse will see expectations and responsibility increase this year.  Last year he played in 15 games and scored 11 runs for the Rams.  Look for his time in the infield and on the mound to go way up in the 2018 season.
