Colorado Top Prospect Games Middle Infield Analysis

The Top Prospect Games took place August 4th and 5th at Historic Cherry Creek High School. 89 prospects were on hand for the two day event that included individual evaluations and games. Players from the 2020-2021 classes and some select 2022 were on hand and did not disappoint during this event.

Over the course of the next week we will break down individual performances by position at this year's Colorado Top Prospect Games. We began our look with the catching position, outfield position, corners and now we look at the middle infield position.

Best of the Best:

Jackson Romero SS / RHP / Resurrection HS, CO / 2020

5-foot-11, 175-pound right hand hitting SS/RHP who ran a 7.56 60. Athletic righty at the plate. Max effort on his swing. Hips and hands fire through the zone and swing path is uphill. 86 mph exit velocity from the tee and several hard hit balls in the live round and game action. Anticipates well in the field, has quick feet and a short high ¾ release. Arm plays at 83 mph with accuracy across the diamond.

Roenikk Hernandez SS / SS / Pine Creek, CO / 2021

5-foot-9, 160-pound right hand hitting MIF who ran a 7.30 60. Uses a big leg kick and stride at the plate to help generate an 85 mph exit velocity. Swing is uphill and hands whip through the zone. Defensively he is aggressive and attacks the ball. Shows great feet and balance on the move. Arm is short and from a high ¾, arm velocity was 78 mph.

Ethan Sitzman 2B / Wheat Ridge, CO / 2020

5-foot-5, 125-pound right hand hitting MIF who ran a 7.50 60. Wide se up at the plate with a lift and place stride. Lower half drives through the zone and hands have good whip. Swing is slightly uphill with control to all fields. Exit velocity was 71 mph. Defensively he plays instinctual and anticipates the ball. Covers good ground to the back hand side, short release and arm plays at 70 mph.

Dallas Macias SS / RHP / Regis Jesuit, CO / 2022

5-foot-10, 155-pound switch hitting SS/RHP who ran a 7.60 60. Swing mirrors itself from the right and left side. Hands are high in the zone and he uses a quick stride to trigger the swing. Shows good weight transfer and drives the baseball. From the right side he had an 80 mph exit velocity and was 81 mph from the left side. Defensively he plays fast and aggressive. Attacks the ball with a quick glove to hand transfer. Arm plays at 78 across the diamond. On the mound is arm is live for a 2022. Fastball sat 78-81 mph with run. Drop and drive pitcher with good extension. Also showcased a 59-60 mph curve with late 11/5 break.

Dylan McKee SS / 2B / Smoky Hill , CO / 2020

5-foot-7, 135-pound right hand hitting MIF who ran a 7.10 60. Defensively showed above-average hands while fielding the baseball out in front with a quick release, can play well on the move and through the baseball. Quick and short release from a high ¾ slot, arm plays athletically and threw 73 mph from across the infield. Right-handed hitter, hits from an open stance, slightly crouched; short, heel-lift stride and wraps his bat into his load and maintains good balance through contact. Long bat path that sweeps through the zone with rhythm, 81 mph exit velocity off the tee.

Kyle Barkley SS / 3B / Cherry Creek High School, CO / 2022

5-foot-9, 140-pound right hand hitting SS/3B who ran a 7.80 60. At the plate he stands open with a long stride to come square. Lower half is solid through the zone creating good pull side power. Swing is long with extension out front. Exit velocity was 80 mph. In the field he comes through the ball and stays square on his delivery. Soft hands and a quick transfer. Arm is accurate to the bag. Arm velocity was 75 mph.

Lane Brownell 2B / RHP / Douglas County, CO / 2020

5-foot-10, 140-pound right hand hitting 2B/RHP who ran a 7.70 60. Starts wide open at the plate with a long stride to square up. Hands come through level and weight rotate on the swing. Exit velocity was 62mph. In the field he showed good instincts. Moves well with soft hands. Arm is 71 in the infield and 76 from the outfield. Repeatable motion on the mound. Good balance and smooth delivery to the plate. Arm is high ¾ and fastball sat 73-75 mph mostly straight. He missed in a 64-66 mph curve with sweeping 11/5 break.

Ty Chapman SS / 3B / Grandview Highschool, CO / 2021

5-foot-11, 145-pound right hand hitting SS/RHP who ran a 7.80 60. Lean middle infielder. Offensively, right-handed hitter, balanced setup, wrap load, short stride, maintains balance through contact. Opposite field approach, long, uphill barrel path, 77 mph exit velocity off a tee. Defensively, long arm action, ¾ arm slot, soft hands and good footwork around the bag. 76 mph across the infield.

Dominic Cordova 2B / SS / Denver East, CO / 2020

5-foot-9, 150-pound right hand hitting 2B/RHP who ran a 7.72 60. Balanced at the plate with a quick load and stride on the pitch. Hands sweep through the zone and swing path is uphill. Ball has good carry to the gap. 81 mph exit velocity. Defensively he is a solid prospect. Anticipates well and stays square on the ball. Arm is accurate at 78 mph.

Riley Feddema SS / RHP / Peak to Peak High School, CO / 2021

5-foot-9, 160-pound right hand hitting SS/RHP who ran a 7.50 60. At the plate he hits from a balanced stance with a slow load on the pitch. Good lower leg drive on the swing. Hands come through the zone on an uphill path. Exit velocity was 85 mph. In the field he showed good athletic actions and instincts. He has soft hands and a good glove to hand transfer. Arm Velocity was 76 mph. On the mound he is a drop and drive pitcher. Lower half drags a bit on the pitch. Arm is over the top and fastball was 72-75 mph. He kept hitters off balance over the weekend with a 62-64 mph curve with 11/5 break.

Noah Ghiselli 3B / RHP / Boulder, CO / 2020

5-foot-10, 164-pound right hand hitting 3B/RHP who ran a 7.51 60. Balanced at the plate with a big slow load on the back side. Hips and hands fire through the zone creating an 88 mph exit velocity. Ball jumps off his bat and travels well in the gaps. Defensively he plays with good instincts. Handles the ball on the line and has a quick glove transfer, arm played at 76 mph. Max effort on the mound, drives hard to the plate from balance. Momentum takes him to the first base side on the pitch. Arm is high ¾ and fastball sat 75-76 mph. Curve was 62-64 with late 11/5 break.

Coleman Guthrie 2B / OF / Mullen, CO / 2020

5-foot-9, 150-pound right hand hitting 2B/OF who ran a 7.50 60. Balanced at the plate with a high leg kick. Lower half drives through the zone and swing path is uphill. Exit velocity was 80 mph off the tee. Defensively he is fundamentally sound. Showcased soft hands and a good transfer. Arm was 74 mph with accuracy.

Ryan Juul SS / RHP / Grandview, CO / 2021

5-foot-11, 140-pound right hand hitting SS/RHP who ran a 7.50 60. Big lift and place stride at the plate to start his swing. Hands drop on the swing and path is uphill. Weight tends to rotate on the swing. Exit velocity was 82 mph. Defensive he is fluid on balls left and right. Glove transfer is quick and arm played at 68 mph. Arm is long on the mound and from a high ¾ slot. Uses his long legs to close distance to the plate with good extension out front. Fastball was 71-72 mph and mostly straight. He added a 59-60 mph curve with sweeping break and featured a 66-67 mph change with near fastball arm speed.

Mason Macias 2B / RHP / Heritage High School, CO / 2022

5-foot-8, 135-pound right hand hitting 2B/RHP who ran a 7.70 60. Right-handed hitter, balanced setup, smooth load, short stride and maintains balance through contact. Compact, fluid, repeatable swing, creates bat speed, consistent hard contact; 80 mph exit velocity from a tee. Defensively, moves well left and right. Shows quick athletic actions and funnels into exchange, ¾ arm slot, throws topped at 70 mph.

Brendan Morr SS / RHP / Eaglecrest, CO / 2020

6-foot-0, 160-pound left hand hitting SS/RHP who ran a 7.40 60. Left-handed hitter, starts in slightly open stance, short stride during load, mostly balanced. Attacks the ball from a short path with above-average bat speed. Recorded 86 mph exit velocity from the tee.

Caden Potter SS / RHP / Valor Christian, CO / 2021

6-foot-1, 165-pound right hand hitting SS/RHP who ran a 7.22 60. At the plate he hits from a balanced stance with a slow load on the pitch. Good lower leg drive on the swing. Hands come through the zone and create good whip. Exit velocity was 87 mph. In the field he showed good athletic actions and instincts. He has soft hands and a good glove to hand transfer. Arm Velocity was 72 mph. Works quick on the mound from a tall and fall motion. Arm is over the top with good extension. Fastball was 77-79 mph with arm side run. Curve ball has 11/5 til and tight spin and sat 65-66 mph in game action.

Ma Cully Sehr SS / 2B / Legacy high, CO / 2021

5-foot-8, 140-pound right hand hitting MIF who ran a 7.45 60. Right-handed hitter, Open stance, big stride to square up, solid balance. Short loose path, hands create bat speed, projectable traits at the plate. 76 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively handles the middle well, hands played, good feet around the bag turning two. Arm played short, 77 mph across the diamond.

Aidan Smith SS / 2B / Mountain Vista, CO / 2020

5-foot-9, 135-pound right hand hitting MIF who ran a 7.00 60. Slightly open stance at the plate. Mechanics are smooth and repeatable. Swing is level with good extension out front. Line drive hitter in game action. Exit velocity was 84 mph from the tee. Classic middle infielder, uses his speed and athleticism to cover ground and cut the ball off. Quick glove to hand transfer and arm played at 72 mph.

Blake Windham RHP / SS / Castle View, CO / 2021

5-foot-9, 140-pound right hand hitting SS/RHP who ran a 7.40 60. Narrow set up at the plate with a big leg kick and load on the pitch. Solid lower half on the swing and hands come through uphill on the swing. Aggressive swing produces an 82 mph exit velocity. Defensively he is sold and stays square on the ball. Arm is short from a high ¾ window and played at 74 mph. Works quick on the mound with a short leg lift and drives to the plate. Gets out over his front side with good extension on the release. Arm is over the top and fastball sat 72-75 mph with run. Curve was 58-60 mph with near fastball arm speed. Showed tight spin and 11/5 break.

Jackson Yarborough 3B / 2B / Valor, CO / 2020

5-foot-10, 150-pound right hand hitting 2B/OF who ran a 7.40 60. At the plate he stands open with a long stride to come square. Lower half is solid through the zone creating good pull side power. Swing is long with extension out front. Exit velocity was 82 mph. In the field he comes through the ball and stays square on his delivery. Showed good feet and soft hands. Arm is accurate to the bag. Arm velocity was 75 mph.
