April baseball is upon us and teams are gearing up for a wild 5 weeks to make the playoffs.  Here is a look at yesterdays action.

Chaparral (3-3) 8 Columbine (4-4) 6 Chaparral hit 3 home runs, and Columbine added 2 home runs of their own but came up short in this non-league game.  Chaparral’s Aaron Hammann (2017), Bryce Matthews (2019), and Ted Howell (2017) each had a home run.  Aaron Hamman was also 3 for 4, and Bryce Matthews had 3 RBI’s.  Chaparral’s Ryan Steinert pitched 3.2 innings giving up no runs with 4 strikeouts.  

Eaglecrest (1-2) 7 Smoky Hill (4-1) 6 The Raptors were led by Vincent Donovan (2017), Cody Lorenzini (2016), Brian Perales (2016), and Garrett Tisdall (2017) they combined for 7 hits and 4 RBI’s in leading Eaglecrest to this league opening win over Smoky Hill.  Smoky Hill’s Matt McDermott went 2 for 4.  This was the first league game for both teams, and will meet again Thursday at Eaglecrest.

Grandview (3-2) 22 Overland (0-4) 0 Grandview exploded for 22 runs on 18 hits in their first league game vs Overland.  These teams will meet again Thursday at Overland.

Mullen (3-3) 11 Arapahoe (1-3) 2 Rocco Porreco (2017) was 2 for 3 with 3 RBI’s, and also pitch 5 innings allowing 1 run on just 2 hits with 5 K’s and Jake Barr (2018) went 1 for 2 with 2 RBI’s to lead the Mustangs over the Warriors in their first league game.  These two will play each other again this Thursday.

Windsor (5-2) 17 Ponderosa (2-4) 16 Windsor’s Zach Watts (2018), Tyler Shubert (2016), Mitchell Watson (2017), and Braden Peninger (2018) combined for 13 hits and 12 RBI’s as Windsor defeated Ponderosa.  Ponderosa’s Ryder Ghidotti was 5 for 6 with 3 RBI’s and Mitch Halloran was 4 for 6, scoring 4 runs and knocking in 2 runs, to lead Ponderosa.

Palmer Ridge (7-1) 12 Discovery Canyon (2-6) 1 Palmer Ridge’s Bryan Boatman (2017) went 3 for 3 scoring 3 runs and knocking in 2, and Reese Pepple  (2017) went 4 for 4 scoring 3 runs, and Nathan Gishwiller (2017) pitched 5 innings giving up just 3 hits and 1 run to lead Palmer Ridge over Discovery Canyon.

Pueblo East (6-2) 8 Pueblo Centennial (6-1) 11| Centennial scored 11 runs on 9 hits in beating cross town rival Pueblo East Tuesday.  Centennial was led by B. Finegold (2017) who had 3 RBI’s with a home run, and Gavin Fesmire (2016) who went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI’s.  East’s Josh Tellez (2017) was 2 for 4 and J. Arellano (2017) went 4 for 5 with 2 RBI’s.

Valor (6-2) 13 Monarch (2-4) 3 Valor Christian beat Monarch Tuesday by scoring 13 runs on just 7 hits.  Joel Pierce (2017) led the way with a home run and 3 RBI’s. Valor’s Freshman Davis Heller pitched 4.2 innings allowing 4 hit and 3 runs but also had 7 K’s.
