April baseball is upon us and teams are gearing up for a wild 5 weeks to make the playoffs.  Here is a look at this past weekend's action.

Bear Creek (5-5) 2 Chatfield (8-2) 1
Bear Creek scored 1 run in the first and another in the 7th to beat Chatfield Saturday.  Chatfield tied the game in the top of the 5th, but Bear Creek scored the winning run in the bottom of the 7th.  Both pitchers for each team did an outstanding job.  Bear Creeks’ Jack Radford allowed on 3 hits and 1 run in 5.2 innings.

Pine Creek (7-1) 1 Palmer (5-3) 3
Palmer got only 4 hits but scored 3 runs to beat Pine Creek on Saturday.  Pine Creek’s Jordan Bahppell (2017) in 7 innings only allowed 4 hits giving up the 1 run, and had 4 strikeouts.  For Pine Creek their pitcher, Wade Counciel (2016) pitched 5 innings only allowing 4 hits, and only gave up 2 earned runs. 

Legend (2-6) 8 Cherokee Trail (2-2) 9
Cherokee Trail continued to put up the numbers with some great hitting, they had a number of players that contributed offensively as they beat Legend on Saturday.  Eric Cox, Conner Nantkes, Nick Perez all 2017 grads combined for 6 hits and 4 RBI’s.  Legend’s Justin Boyd (2019) went 1 for 3 and had 3 RBI’s, and Taj Mitchell (2016) went 3 for 4.

Rocky Mountain (3-3) 14 Loveland (1-5)
Rocky Mountain’s Austin Alarid (2016) threw 4.1 inning only allowing 1 hit with 1 walk and 4 strikeouts, as Rocky Mountain put up 14 runs Saturday.

Rangeview (4-3) 9 Adams City (4-3) 3
Rangeview beat Adams City on Saturday behind the run support provided by Isaiah Carrillo (2017) 2 for 3 with 1 RBI, Josh Schumacher (2016) 1 for 4 with 2 RBI’s, and Edgar Castaneda (2016) who was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI’s.

Ralston Valley (5-3) 9 Columbine (4-6) 2
Ralston Valley beat Columbine at Columbine on Saturday.  Ralston Valley’s Peter Carlson (2016) was 2 for 4, Josh Robinson (2016) was 3 for 5, Tanner Hauptman (2016) was 3 for 5 with 2 RBI’s and Drake Davis (2017) was 3 for 4 with 2 RBI’s to lead Ralston Valley.  Columbine put up 12 hits but could only score 2 runs.  Tommy Gillman (2016) was 2 for 4 with a home run, and Mikey Griebel (2017) was 3 for 4. 

Pueblo Centennial (8-1) 7 Pueblo South (7-2) 2
Holding just a 2 to 1 lead going into the top of the 6 the Bulldogs exploded to put up a 5 spot in the top half of the inning, and went on the win 7-2.  B. Finegold (2017) pitched 5.1 innings allowing just 4 hits with 2 earned runs. 

Mountain View (6-0) 2 Niwot (3-6) 0
Mountain View scored 2 runs on just 1 hit, to beat Niwot on Saturday.  Niwot’s pitcher Ford Ladd (2016) threw 6 innings allowing just 1 hit with just 1 earned run, while striking out 7.  Mountain View’s pitcher Logan Bernhardt (2016) threw a complete game allowing just 3 hits with 7 strike outs.
