Fall Prospect Games Position Player Analysis

The 2017 PBR Colorado Fall Prospect Games took place September 30th and October 1st at Dakota Ridge High School.  Prospects from around the state came to compete is a pro-style workout and to play a game in front of the PBR Colorado staff. Over the next several days we will break down the individual performances at this event.

 

 

 

All Players listed in Alphabetical Order

Cole Crader C / OF / Grandview, CO / 2018

6-foot-1, 172 pounds. Bats and throws right, runs a 7.05 60.  At the plate he has a tall, narrow stance. Slight leg kick. Slow loads slightly down then up but generates some good bat whip through the zone. Good live round with line drive power to both fields. Lower half works well. Produced a 94 mph exit velocity off the tee. During the Fall Prospect Games, he hit 1 home run and had 2 more extra base hits. Behind the plate he  is good fundamentally with blocking skills and framing. On throw downs has slight pause before release. Was 1.99-2.01 down to 2nd with a 75 mph arm velocity. 

 

 

 

Colton Hittle 2B / OF / Discovery Canyon, CO / 2020

5-foot-6, 132-pound right hand hitting 2B/OF who ran a 7.90 60.  At the plate he stands balanced with a short stride and load on the pitch.  He shows a strong leg drive through the zone and good extension out front on contact.  Exit Velocity was 73 MPH off the tee.  In the field he shows good awareness and anticipation on ground balls.  He has soft hands a quick transfer.  Arm velocity was 70 MPH across the diamond.

 

 

 

 

Justin Hoffman OF / RHP / Mountain Range, CO / 2018

6-foot-0, 150-pound left hand hitting OF/RHP who ran a 7.03 60.  At the plate he stands tall and balanced.  He uses a long stride and slow load back to get to his launch position.  Swing path is uphill.  He showed good bat control to all fields during this event.  Exit Velocity was 77 MPH.  In the field he played solid defense all weekend.  He uses his speed to cut down balls in the gap and throws from an over the top arm angle.  Arm velocity was 78 MPH with accuracy.

 

 

 

Ryan James 2B / OF / Longmont, CO / 2019

5-fot-7, 130-pound left hand hitting 2B/OF who ran a 7.34 60.  At the plate he is balanced and uses a quick left and place stride on the pitch.  Swing path is uphill and his ball has good carry into the gaps.  Exit Velocity was 76 MPH.  In the field he is athletic and showed good anticipation all weekend.  He has soft hands and a quick transfer on the throw.  Arm velocity was 70 MPH across the diamond with accuracy.

 

 

 

Brice Martinez 3B / 2B / Cherry Creek, CO / 2019

5-foot-11, 150-pound right hand hitting 3B/MIF who ran a 6.70 60.  At the plate he stands slightly open and wide.  He uses a high leg kick and slow load on the pitch to get to his launch position.  Swing path is slightly up hill with a strong weight transfer on the swing.  He had several hard hit balls on the weekend and showcased very well as a complete player.  Exit Velocity was 91 MPH.  In the field he has quick reactions and anticipation at 3rd base.  He moves well left and right and has a strong accurate arm. Arm velocity was 78 MPH.

 

 

Craig Kenny C / 3B / Regis Jesuit, CO / 2020

5-foot-10. 170-pound right hand hitting C/INF who ran a 7.80 60.  At the plate he is balanced and tall.  He starts slightly open and uses a long stride to load and come square.  He has smooth mechanics and and a slightly uphill swing path.  During the weekend he had several hard hit balls and finished with 2 extra base hits.  Behind the plate he is fundamentally sound and shows good skill in handling a pitcher.  He shows quick reflexes when blocking and a quick transfer on the throw down to second base.  Pop-times were consistently 2.10.  

 

 

 

Nick Perri 3B / 1B / Mullen, CO / 2020

5-foot-10, 160-pound right hand hitting 3B/1B who ran a 7.75 60.  At the plate he has a wide stance with a quick lift and place stride on the pitch.  Weight transfers through the zone hard at contact.  He shows good pull side power.  Exit Velocity was 82 MPH.  In the field he shows quick actions and anticipation on balls hit in the hole.  He has a slight double tap after fielding, but delivers an accurate ball.  Arm velocity was 72 MPH. 

 

 

 

 

Gavin Schmeh SS / 2B / Brighton, CO / 2021

5-foot-5, 126-pound right hand hitting SS/2B who ran a 7.90 60.  At the plate he stands slightly open with a high leg kick and quick load on the pitch.  Swing path is uphill with good extension after contact.  Swing mechanics are sound and during the weekend he handled the fastball very well.  Exit velocity was 76 MPH.  In the field he shows good instincts and anticipation.  He moves well on the ball up the middle and showcased a quick transfer from his glove to his throwing hand.  He has good feet that keep in-line with the bag on his throws and his arm velocity was 73 MPH with accuracy.

 

 

 

Declan Wiesner C / 1B / Valor Christian High School, CO / 2020

5-foot-11, 190-pound right hand hitting C/1B.  During the FPG we saw him on the second day behind the plate.  He is a strong athletic catcher who had pop-times of 1.90-1.95.  He sets up well behind the plate and has smooth athletic actions on balls in the dirt.  He throws from an over the top arm slot with accuracy to the bag.  Arm velocity was 76 MPH.  At the plate he had several extra base hits with an uphill swing path and power to the left center gap.
