Colorado 5A State Championship
Mountain Vista         3
Valor Christian         2
In one of the better state championship games in recent memory, Mountain Vista held on to defeat Valor 3-2 to claim their second baseball state championship.
Valor jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning with hits by Radek Birholz, Blake Wilson and TJ Meyn.  Then Vista answered with one run in the bottom of the first and another 2 in the second inning.
Then the pitching for both teams took over, Ben Whipple for Valor who used an 88 mph fastball mixing it in with breaking balls between 72 -75. Ben was replaced by Deacon Nagy.
Evan Magill for Mountain Vista bounced back after giving up two in the first and was dominant for the next 5 innings using an outstanding slider and working the outer half of the plate and mixing in his mid 80's fastball, striking out 9.  He was replaced in the 7th inning by Griffin Huiatt who made quick work of the Valor hitters with two fly outs and a strikeout to end the game and give Mountain Vista their second baseball state championship.
The pitching was excellent for both teams, some outstanding defense especially by Mountain Vista's Sean Marlow who made an excellent catch to end the top of the 6th inning.   Both teams were outstanding and should be proud of their accomplishments this past season.
