LEGEND 14, CASTLE VIEW 8

Excellent game that came down to the last inning. Castle View held an 8-7 lead going into the top of the 7th before defensive miscues and lower quality pitching led to a 7-run 7th inning for the Legend Titans. For the first three innings of the game, we saw an excellent pitching matchup between Castle View’s 2022 RHP TJ Newman (Garden City CC,) and Legend’s 2023 RHP Reece Wagner (uncommitted.) The two hurlers combined for 14 strikeouts while surrendering 6 hits total.

2022 RHP/OF TJ Newman (Garden City CC) - Showed a bulldog attitude on the mound and really settled in after giving up 3 in the 2nd inning. FB 85-88, 12-6 CB was tight at times though inconsistent at 71-73. If TJ can get the CB in a spot where he can control it all the time, he will keep CV in a lot of games. Needs to develop a CH to be a successful starter in the Jayhawk. Overall TJ threw 103 pitches, 5 hits, and 7 K’s. TJ also came through with a huge hit in the bottom of the 6th, smoking a line drive through the middle to tie the game. As always, TJ showed his  electric 6.37 speed on the base paths stealing two more bags moving his season total to 29-29.

2023 RHP Reece Wagner (Uncommitted) - Although Reece only made it through 2.2 innings, the stuff is electric. Reece delivers from a ¾ arm slot with good ASR on the FB that ranged from 86-90 MPH throughout the outing. Adding to the FB was an absolutely devastating sweeping SL that ranged from 72-75 MPH. Reese’s highlight of the day was punching out the side in the second inning that led to his total of 7k’s in only 2.2 innings pitched. Huge upside for this kid.

2022 Max Meuli (Butler CC) - Had a good day at the plate in the DH role for Legend going 2 for 3 with 2 RBI’s. Meuli showed a relaxed approach at the plate, keeping hands inside the ball and the willingness to use all fields.

2022 SS Ty Kennedy (Washington State) - Proved once again that he is one of the best players in the state by going 2 for 5 with 2 RBI’s. Was really impressed with this speed on the bases and can see why the Cougars of Washington State are excited to have such an electric player for the next four years.

2025 SS Tommy Feldhake (Uncommitted) - Was really impressed by the poise of this freshman who started at SS for CV and hit in the two-hole. Tommy showed maturity in his at bats against a 90mph fastball working two walks. The future is bright for this young middle-infielder.

EATON 9, STERLING 8

Power 3A matchup between 11-1 Sterling and 10-1, defending State Champions, Eaton. Highly competitive game that featured numerous lead changes and momentum shifts.

2023 RHP Tate Smith, Eaton (Oklahoma State commit) flashed moments that show his rising potential.  His FB ranged from 88-91 and held Velo through 100 pitches. FB has great ASR from a High ¾ arm slot. His SL works well off that slot at 79-81. SL has sharp late break. Smith creating consistent Velo from Windup and Stretch. Sterling and Eaton both used stiff winds to take advantage offensively.

2022 RHP/SS Dylan DiOrio, Sterling (McCook CC - basketball) should find the baseball coach at McCook, as well. DiOrio’s athleticism is outstanding. One to the top hoopsters in the state can pitch.  FB ranged from 84-87 with great locations. 6-foot-4 with long levers and clean arm. Very projectable, especially with size, strength and athleticism. SL 69-74 and got better as the game progressed. Showed leadership with this scrappy Sterling team.

Offensively, Sterling hitting at a .338 clip. Sterling steals bases! Lead by 2022 OF Noah Soper, Sterling (NJC commit). Soper is 16-for-17 in SB and currently hitting .390 with 17 RBI. 2022 1B Andrew Meick, Sterling (McCook CC) also 17-20 in SB’s and hitting at .500 pace and a team leading 24 RBI’s through 13 games.

Leading an impressive offense that is hitting .383 as a team is 2023 Ryder True, Eaton (Uncommitted). The Jr. is coming of a year of rehab after a knee injury.  He has accepted a challenge in a Big Way.  His Primary position is Catcher and shows versatility as OF. Strong stocky build shows ability to hit FB with velo and Off speed consistently. Quick hands, middle of the field approach. Through 12 games, True leads team with .545 AVG and 17RBI. Continues strong development behind the plate.

MOUNTAIN VISTA 4, DOUGLAS COUNTY 0

Power 5A Matchup between two top 5 teams. Mountain Vista came in 13-1, and Douglas County at 10-1. From the first pitch viewers could see this was going to be a big time pitchers duel between MV’s 2022 RHP Anthony Urbani (Uncommitted), and DC’s RHP Max Stanley (2023 Wichita State). As impressive as it was to see Max Stanley punch-out 10 in 4IP, it was equally if not more impressive to see Anthony Urbani throw a CG with 9K’s only allowing 4 hits. The whole game only saw 10 hits, with MV getting 6 while DC only managed 4.

2022 RHP Anthony Urbani (Uncommitted) - Urbani showed an impressive ability to keep the Douglas County hitters off balance throughout the affair, showing confidence in all 3 pitches and throwing them in any count. Urbani showed a FB that sat 83-85mph throughout his complete game topping out at 86mph. He also flashed elte control of his CB (varying from a boxed CB early in counts to an elite out pitch late in counts) that sat 73-75MPH and a CH that sat around 74mph. The Huskies of DC showed no answer to Urbani’s elite command of all three pitches. Urbani finished the game with 100 pitches, 7IP, 4H, 0ER, 9K’s.

2023 RHP Max Stanley (Wichita State) - Stanley came out firing today with a FB that Sat 89-93mpH topping out at 95mph! In addition, he featured an over the top 11/5 CB that sat 73mph with great depth when located, and a SL (or cutter) 83-85MPH that had good late glove side cut. Stanley showed today that his upside is off the charts and the sky's the limit as he continues to mature and command the zone. Stanley finished with 93 pitches, 4IP, 3H, 3ER, 5BB, 10K’s.

2023 RHP Hunter Gotschall (Uncommitted) - Gotschall entered the game in a tough situation with the bases loaded and no outs in the top of the 5th and did his best to minimize. Gotschall showed a FB that sat 87-88mph throughout his outing with a wipe out breaking ball sitting 70-73mph. He scattered 3 hits over 3 innings with 6K’s. Although Gotschall came in a tough situation, he showed poise and a bulldog mentality, keeping DC in the game over the final 3 innings.

2022 LHH/LHP Tyler Mejia (Uncommitted) - Had two hits in the game showing poise in the batters’ box and aggressiveness to his pitch. Mejia kept his hands inside the ball well and showed the ability to hit upper echelon pitching, utilizing the whole field. Mejia’s next level frame and compact LH swing should not have him uncommitted for long.

REGIS JESUIT 5, PONDEROSA 3

Two future DI players and Super 60 attendees, 2022 Dallas Macias and 2022 Dylan Carey, go head to head. Regis and Ponderosa were even through the first, but Regis took the lead in the second. Ponderosa answered in the 3rd.

2022 OF Carson Conant, Ponderosa (Azusa Pacific commit) had a ground rule double to bring in Ponderosa’s first run. Middle of the field approach. Shows discipline at the plate. Keeps hands inside well and has good speed.

Both Regis and Ponderosa got a run in the 4th, leading to a score of 3-2. 2022 SS Dallas Macias Regis Jesuit (Oregon St. commit) had a 3-run HR that was called back, to extend Regis’s lead in the 5th. Regis played solid team baseball by advancing the runners and hitting hard line drives and not being afraid to hit the ball the other way.

Ponderosa had a good start to the 6th inning from 2022 OF Tyler “P” Smith (Garden City commit) had a double and eventually became Ponderosa’s 3rd run. Smith has quick hands that are direct to the ball and a balanced swing that led to his double to left center. His barrel consistently finds ball. 2025 LHP Christian Lopez, Regis Jesuit (Uncommitted) got the save in the game and went 2.0IP, 0Hs, 0BBs, 3Ks, and 0ERs. His fastball ranged 80-84 with ASR and was located on both sides of the plate. Curveball was 70-71 with 12-6 movement that dropped hard and late. Kept hitters off balance. Good OT arm action that whips through. Repeatable delivery. Room to fill out. Move in there!
