LEGACY 10, VALOR CHRISTIAN 0 (4.8)

Legacy remained undefeated at 6-0 and with a 10-0 win vs. Valor Christian in a game closer than the score may indicate. Quality talent in both dugouts.

2022 LHP Landen Sehr, Legacy (UCCS commit)  spun a 1 hit 5 inning CG. Sehr shows his high level of competitiveness in every pitch. The 5’10” LHP pounds the zone and nibbles when he wants with everything + the “kitchen sink.” His FB will range 79-83 with control on both sides of plate and up/down.  CB 66-69 and a SL 72-74, both are used as back door and back knee options. Has great feel for changing speeds at appropriate times. Use a quick pitch in the wind up and stretch and has pesky pick off move. FB surprises hitters with his steady mix. Impressive!

2024 RHP Athan Kroll, Valor Christian (Dallas Baptist commit) showed why is one of the top arms in the 2024 class. Kroll threw 3 innings giving up 3 hits, 1ER and 4K. FB 86-87 Touching 88 with good arm side run. Tall/lean, Athan creates a repeatable delivery with high ¾ release cutter 77-82 and a CH at 78-81. Continue to see consistent development in Athan’s mechanics and strength. High ceiling.

2023 C Derek Olsen, Legacy (Uncommitted) 2-for-2, 2RBI. Olsen’s strong frame stands out. Shows flexibility and agility as catcher and receiving skills are very good.  Great transition and transfer and shows a consistent POP time below 1.95.  Had a 2-2 day with 2RBI’s and showed discipline in AB’s.  Great timing with load and middle of the field approach.   Great Uncommitted Catcher to follow in the 2023 Class.

2022 2B Peyton Malecha, Legacy (Monterey Peninsula College commit) Peyton’s athleticism is evident. The tall and lean second basemen was 1-for-2 with double on the day and a RBI. Strong defensive player with flare for making challenging plays. Added strength will benefit him. Currently, hitting .333 through 7 games.

2022 3B/RHP Kieran Gaffney, Legacy (Cochise JC commit). Gaffney had big day at the plate going 3-for-4 with 3RBI. Two-way Gaffney hitting in the two hole shows a wide base and stays balance at the plate. Use the whole field and sits on off speed. Quick Hands with inside out stroke. Only 1K on the year.

HORIZON 5, ROCK CANYON 1 (4.9)

It was an intense match up between Rock Canyon and red hot Horizon. Horizon had 2022 RHP Gabriel Rodriguez (Eastern CC commit), on the bump, working 6 innings with 6K, 2H, and only 1ER. His fastball was 85-87mph, top 88mph. Did mix in a 2-seam 82-83 that had good ASR. His curveball was 72-73 that fell off the table. Gabriel attacked the zone and kept hitters off balance. Located all his pitches well.

2023 1B JT Shank, Rock Canyon (Uncommitted). JT went 1-for-3 with a single. Balanced with middle of the field approach. Quick hands with good feet in the field. He continues to develop. Show. Attacks the ball. Smooth. He has a team leading 17 RBI on the season.

2022 2B Justin Gines, Horizon (Uncommitted). Justin had a day going 3-for-3 with a double. It's a short, compact swing with a strong and balanced lower half. Quick hands that go direct to the ball. The right-handed bat is batting .400 on the year with 9 RBI.

CHEYENNE MOUNTAIN 7, DISCOVERY CANYON 0 (4.9)

Cheyenne Mountain and Discovery Canyon battled through strong pitching performances from both Max O'Neill (2023 CM) and Jonah Johnson (2022 DC). Cheyenne Mountain showed the ability to play clean baseball and take advantage of mistakes.

2023 RHP Max O'Neill, Cheyenne Mountain (Uncommitted). Pitched stronger as the game went on. Settled in at 83-84, touching 86 mph. Showed the ability to command the fastball up/down and in/out with effect. Showed a 65 mph curveball he used early in the counts and a 70-72 mph slider as his out pitch. Over the top right hander that showed the ability to throw downhill. Should have more in the tank. Had 9 k's in 5 innings pitched.

2023 SS Jace Eslinger, Cheyenne Mountain (Uncommitted) shortstop who showed good footwork and hands and a plus arm across the diamond. Should be able to stay at the SS position at the next level.

2022 RHP Jonah Johnson, Discovery Canyon (Uncommitted) showed strong pitchability as he was 81-83 mph with a 72 mph curveball.

2023 CF Chase Ambuehl, Discovery Canyon (Uncommitted). Athletic center fielder with room to add strength. 1-for-3 with a walk.
