Mile High Crosscheck: March 15-24

The Mile High Crosscheck provides insider information and scouting notes from our PBR Colorado Scouting Staff during the season. This running crosscheck will feature information on underclass prospects, unsigned seniors, draft prospects and highlight notable performances and performers.  We will provide a wide range of information, including player evaluations and game notes. We strive to bring state and national recognition for our Colorado players.

AIR ACADEMY 12, PALMER RIDGE 6 (3.15)

2023 Cody Sheets, RHP/OF, Air Academy squared off against 2023, Nolan Phillips, RHP, Palmer Ridge in the 1st game of rescheduled double-header. Sheets, threw 99 pitches, 5 innings, 6 hits, 10 k’s. FB was steady range at 86-88.  He located his FB in/out and up/down. Gave up four early runs, but settled in to recover and pitch well for a win. Used his SL often and effectively. SL 73-75.  CH 72. 

After a very impressive PBR Colorado Preseason All-State event, Nolan Phillips went four innings allowing five hits. FB 84-86, 68-73 with 12/6 action and lots of potential and struggled in the zone with 7 BB’s. Strong upside is evident with Nolan.  

This day belonged to 2022, James Wright, C, Air Academy (Dodge City CC Commit) as he blasted a pair of home runs. Wright shows strength, agility and a great set of receiving hands behind the plate. Pop time of 1.93 in-game. Shows ++strength and bat speed at the plate. Intentional lift with pull side tendency. Have seen great development from James.

Air Academy sweeps the double-header, winning game two 15-11.

CHEROKEE TRAIL 14, FORT COLLINS 4 (3.19)

All Cherokee Trail in this matchup.  

2024, Jude Miller, LHP, Fort Collins FB ranged from 75-78, SL 65-67, CH 68-70 developing lefty with good upside. 2024, Sean Togher, C, Fort Collins stands out as a left-handed hitting catcher. Togher shows strength and a quick hands. Uses all fields and has potential for future power. Strong skill set behind the dish. 2.02-2.05 pop-times. Shows leadership and management of game. 

2022, Andrew Godfrey, SS/3B, Cherokee Trail, helped lead a high-energy, Cherokee Trail team.  Godfrey shows patience and a middle of the field approach. Quick inside out swing.

Offensive is lead by their one and two hole hitters, 2022, Nick Barber, CF and 2022, Brett Barber, 2B.  Both have non-stop motors and play the game at a high competitive level. The twins can play. 2023, Bowen Tabola, C, Cherokee Trail and past Team Colorado Future Games Team member might have the highest ceiling. The switch-hitting catcher has plus receiving skills and a pop time of 1.89-1.94. Strong build with middle of field approach from both sides.

2024 Logan Reid, LHP, Cherokee Trail FB 76-78, SL 62-66, Showed ability to throw strikes with FB and OS…Good move to 1B.

UNIVERSITY 11, RESURRECTION CHRISTIAN 8 (3.22)

2022, Luke Ruby, SS/RHP, Resurrection Christian (CSU-Pueblo Commit). Ruby's FB ranged from 85-87 in a very difficult 20mph headwind. Demonstrated a very good SL 71-74, CH 68-70. Short compact delivery with a clean finish. Great tempo to plate and is highly competitive.

The battery for Resurrection Christian was Senior Luke Ruby pitching to Fr Bennett Ruby. 2025, Bennett Ruby, C, Resurrection Christian, showed ++receiving skills and + arm strength…would consider Bennett a top prospect in the 2025 class.  

Leadoff hitter 2023, Carter Evans, MIF, Resurrection Christian stands out as a ++athlete with developing skill set. Has demonstrated speed and quickness. Ran 6.70 in PBR event. Quick bat speed and middle of the field approach. Player to follow!

2022, River Jackson, SS, University HS (San Joaquin Delta commit) had a 4-5 day at the plate.  Shows +speed with a 6.87 60-yard dash and is very versatile. Middle infielder that can catch and play all positions with a compact swing. Has carried a high average at all levels of high school and club baseball.  

Uncommitted, 2022, Greg Garza, 2B, University HS. Garza crushed a two-run home run.  Competitive Gamer! Plays the game with energy. Can play on both sides of second base. Line drive tendency with direct path. Has the ability to keep hands inside of fastball. 

2023, Logan Getting, OF, University HS.  Big frame with left-handed hitting power potential. Logan has been at PBR events in the past and produced exit velos of 99mph! Power potential with some intentional lift. Swing is still developing with pull side tendencies. Strong arm in the outfield and also pitches. Logan is a great follow as he continues to develop.

REGIS JESUIT 8, MULLEN 3 (3.24)

Quality matchup between to of the top programs in the state loaded with collegiate and professional prospects. 

2022, Trevor Moore, RHP, Mullen (Stanford commit) started for Mullen. Moore threw 2 ⅓ innings and gave up 7 earned runs on 8 hits. Moore flashed a FB at 89-92 and a plus CB 74-77. Has shown strong level of consistency in his high school career. Pounds the zone and has repeatable delivery. Composed and competitive on the mound.

2022, Owen Marsh, RHP, Mullen (St. Thomas commit) was impressive against a very offensive Regis Jesuit team. Marsh 3 ⅔ and gave up one hit while facing 12 batters. FB ranged from 86-89 with plus sink and a strong CB at 78-80. Pitched up/down and in/out. Continue to see upward development in refining mechanics and increase in velocity. High ceiling.

2022, Brooks Gerig, RHP, Regis Jesuit (CO School of Mines commit) threw five innings, giving up six hits. FB ranged from 84-87 with great arm side run. 12/6 CB at 76 acts as a great out pitch and he uses it to keep hitters off balance early. Past PBR Colorado Futures player, has shown steady developmental improvement.   

Regis Jesuit’s offense can be explosive. PBR Super 60 player, 2022, Dallas Macias, SS (Oregon State commit) started his year off with a bomb. Macias turned around a 91mph FB to dead centerfield. Macias demonstrates explosive quick and strong hands from both sides of the plate. One of Colorado’s top prospects has continued to improve throughout his HS career.

2022, Isaac Wachsmann, OF (Xavier commit) and past Team Colorado Future Games player followed up Macias home run with a Bomb of his  own. Wachsmann’s body frame and athleticism are impressive.  No longer just potential, he is getting results.
